Hi Judith,

Kirsty has just said "Someone's posted some nice pics of Northern Spain on FaceBook". I said "Is she called Judith?". Your fame is growing!

I thought I'd point her to this thread on Fun, with loads more pictures, but the link in your signature is broken and points to your previous thread. I found it again by other means, but thought I'd let you know.

Still enjoying the thread. Can't quite believe it's as quiet as it appears to be at this time of year, or are you just good at avoiding the masses?

Tony

Thanks for the "heads up" about my signature. I hope I've corrected it?

It's not quiet at all in some places, but we try to avoid them. Anywhere near a town with bars/restaurants, attract the Spanish. Ditto popular beach resorts.

Search out beaches without bars or any facilities and you'll find them to be quiet.

And ... also inland villages that aren't on the tourist map. You're likely to be alone there, on a fully serviced, sometimes with free leccy, parking area. If we can find some walks or rides to do, that's our preference.

Not happy, at all with Martin's photo of me. The good thing is it's a thumbnail, not a full size photo 🤣

tonyl the place we're at presently is a prime example of finding quiet spots. We're south of the very busy, tourist hotspot of Santiago de Compostela. It's a shady area, with facilities (being updated) on the Rio Ulla, with its own river beach. The nearby "village" has a fuel station, a car wash and laundry washing machines, a butchers, a couple of bars and the "Open all Hours" Awrkwight type shop.

The parking area is donativo, but they charge €10 🤷‍♀️ but well worth it to be in the shade at the moment. It has space for around 50 but the most we've seen (in August) has been about 10.

Our ride today turned out to be another good one. It's a pretty area and the route took us through small hamlets. We overlooked the road to Padrón at one point, so we knew we were on the hillside we'd spotted a few days ago, and which we thought looked a lovely, area to ride.

The first part of our descent route was a bit challenging, but nothing to spoil the route, and then we rode a maze of tiny roads through farms, hamlets and villages. That was really nice. We'd never get there in a motorhome. (We did eye up a couple of shady spots en route for a future trip, but with the official parking around here, it's not necessary).

Glad Martin is back to normal 👍 we had to delay our arrival at our friends, 😯 felt awful so never got here until yesterday Mike got a covid test for me that was clear, 🤔 but even though I was still feeling cr@p insisting we joined them for dinner, but I did a Billy no mates and had mine in the garden better to be safe than sorry. 😁

Took the dogs out early and spent the day relaxing in the shade feeling much better now. 😎

They went off at 7.30 to catch the ferry taking the Mitsubishi leaving us the Corsa, I can feel this being a expensive visit 🙄 because we have been thinking of changing our old Corsa for a newer one. 🤔😎 Bob.

Yes get well soon... I've had a few unusual bouts of unknown reasons for feeling off since having Covid last year...may be this...or perhaps not..

I'm back to my normal self now... appitite back too...

Very hot here...but the Park up in the shade takes the edge off the 33°....

Enjoy your break.... I'd go for a red one...Corsa that is..

We have made the momentous decision to drive back north. Instead of suffering the forecast 38° heat, an easy two hour drive back towards Ortiguera has put us in a pleasant, if slightly cool, environment. We stocked up on food, drink, and autogas at Santiago and we've now just eaten lunch at a Chapel in a forest .... somewhere. Amazingly we have good internet, so our onward planning can take place this afternoon.

The drive over from the motorway at As Pontes was lovely and getting cooler by the minute! We almost stopped en route near the turbines, but we'd found a lovely sounding spot on P4N, but when we looked down a narrow, forest track, we bottled it.

Look at that lovely mist!

A few minutes further along I spotted this place, the Capela de San Pedro. It'll do us for tonight.

Something has been turning the earth, what might we be disturbed with in the night? Jabalí (wild boar) or something else 😂???

Good shot of the Hoopoe. We used to get them on the scrub and dunes between Arenales and Gran Alacant. Never got a decent pic of one myself.

There were a pair of them, never moving far from around our motorhome, until the dog from a tent further away, ran at them barking 😡

Well, what a surprise to wake up to. We're in the midst of a brilliant, noisy, flashing and banging storm. No rain, yet, but the wind is blowing in the trees.

Ha, spoke too soon, here it comes and it sound like hail 😨

No Hail...just heavy rain for now, however it's not totally cleared as yet...as jumartoo mentioned...it was quite a light show.⛈️⛈️⚡

The sun came out after the rain, that means humidity!

Our storm cell, leaving ...

We had three places in mind to head to, and after changing said minds numerous times, we decided to revisit the "Best Bank in Spain" where bank, in this case, means bench. We steered clear of the bench this time, it was far too full of tourists 😂 but I have some nice photos anyway.

We've been here before, once on the parking we aimed for today, near a chiringuito, on the cliffs, and the other time we went to the private parking area in the pines. That appears to be up and running again.

We parked up and went for a walk, and ... it was humid and very sweaty! But beautiful. We sat and watched a helicopter and the rescue boat, practicing, we hope!

On our return the van was too warm, so we showered and left. One aborted attempt at another place we've not stayed at but we've cycled through, we headed in the direction of the parking at the restaurant at San Román de Vale. On the way there I suddenly remembered a Mirador we'd ridden past and thought it would be an ideal parkup. So here we are. The Miradoiro de Toxido. And I haven't yet been out to take any photos.

This is what I'm working with when posting photos. Not all the time, but most of the time. Hence my frustration and possible multiple edits!!!

I have the thumbnails, but when I go to put them full size I get codes that don't match the thumbnail.

Any ideas how to prevent this?

Occasionally, it all goes back to normal and I see an actual photo, but it is very occasionally 😡

We arrived from Santander this morning and snagged a spot on the free aire in Oviedo no shade but only a 45 min walk into town, after a fabulous menu del dia which included one of the nicest fabadas I have ever eaten we are now back at the motorhome utilising our new aircon and it's working a treat on the lithium. We will be hovering up north for a few days but the forecast looks like its cooling for next week as the plan is to do Portugal.

So last night we spent, with two campervanners, at the Mirador de Toxeido. No sunset (wing direction) but we did see a circle of fishing boats, and I zoomed in on one of them.

This morning we had a pretty, if not stunning, sunrise and then we left to go on the hunt for some boxes of the red wine we like. We'd bought them previously in Gadis at Viveiro, so that was our quest.

After successfully purchasing the wine, on our route to our chosen parking we saw, and remembered staying last year at, an area in the shade of Eucalypts, so we pulled in. A quick search found us a bike route that came through here, so we were all set. At first we were disappointed that we were only going to be riding on roads, but then the route took off up a forest track and climbed, and climbed to a viewpoint overlooking Viveiro.

We descended to an area we'd seen from above, the Miradoiro de San Roque, with its tourists! but a lovely viewpoint anyway. Then it wasn't too long or hard a ride back.

The Police were exercising two horses on the beach. I'll not say where they put a shovel of poo!! But a French van is parked right next to it!

Show us the wine, asking for a friend 😁😁

Someone had dumped a (full) loo in the brambles behind where we parked. Two parts of a big Camping Gas portapotti. This morning Martin took them next to the bins, about 30 metres away. We've just watched a couple wrap both parts up in black plastic and take them away in their car 😨 still full 🤮.

It's good that it's been recycled, but ...

It was the responsible thing to do, it would of been more disgusting to empty it in situ.
