"A Year in Spain" My "last gasp" attempt at posting (informative info).

An old (very old) guy in overalls, riding an old (very old) bike has cycled by a couple of times. He heads back with one courgette, or one bunch of some other greenery.

He then reappeared on foot, looking over the fence to the ditch heading down to the river. He disappeared, then came back with, possibly, his grandson, or even great grandson. They both peered over the fence and then scanned the length of the ditch.

Were they looking for Colin???

Is he the village mascot?

We're keeping very quiet 🤣🤣🤣
Maybe he was their pet crayfish?

A few photos of the caves.

The cemetery would have made a nice parking area. Sods Law when there's an official place. It was across from a very productive Fig tree.

Two of them were eaten with the last of our smoked cheese. The rest have been poached in red wine and honey (there were a few more than in Martin's display)!

We're going out on the bikes at 4 pm 🤞🤞🤞. I've drunk all my red wine with my lunch today as well 😂

Tummy better today then?

Oh my! Those cave houses! You do find some amazing things!
Do you just come across them as you travel around or do you actively seek them out?

I've normally got an idea of what may be in an area and do some research, but today's caves were found due to a review on P4N about the parking area. I then Googled the village. It's not a tourist place, despite having a purpose built motorhome area, but, to us, it was interesting.

We went for a ride out to the via verde for 15km and then returned the same way. The first track had some big puddles so we expect the other tracks round about will be the same. The via verde was dry. The Old stations were in good condition, the first one is a casa rural (rural house for holiday rent).

We saw more of the cave houses, or rather a hillside with chimneys.

We also found the old guys veg plot. He was on his way back there again as we got back here. He's no longer looking down the channel for something 😂

The weather forecast is now to get hot again 😨😨, so we've moved slightly north of last night's stop. Martin found this place. A motorhome area, next to a campsite, at Villanueva de Carrizo, just west of Leon. It has open grassy parking areas, but, more to his interest, huge weeping willows for shade. Tomorrow we'll be reversing under there before we head out for a ride. Oh, there's a frog pond behind us, apparently they are noisy at night 🤣🤣

We drove here, via a fuel stop (we could have found fuel a bit cheaper if we'd researched. I normally do, but, but what we saw, and filled with was cheaper than the last few top ups) next to a supermarket. I got some more basics (including bottles of wine, no boxes worth buying)

I made a quick search on Wikiloc whilst Martin prepared the bikes, and off we went on an "easy" route. It was easy, except for the area around the Mirador overlooking the old Roman mining area. They call it Las Medulas, but its nothing like the "real" Las Medulas, but nice anyway.

Anyway, we started by riding through acres of hops. The first we've seen. We then stopped at a nice Ermita, and then rode through kilometres of oak forest until it changed to pines. Pines that were being tapped for the resin. We've seen it in Portugal, but a first for us here.

Some lovely scenery, took us to the Medulas, then we rode through a series of villages to bring us back here.

The descent from the viewpoint was looser amd steeper than it looks. Even Martin, sensibly, walked the first bit. I walked a bit more!

The renovated Palacio del Conde de Rebolledo (now a hotel) looked VERY nice, and just down the road the tower with its sundial was worth a photo. (It was 1.45 by our reckoning when we were there ???)

All in all, another satisfying day in our opinions.

We've eaten "en van" Brocolli and King Prawn pasta, and opened one of the bottles of newly purchased red wines.

Martin checked out the campsite. It appears to be closed but the restaurant is open, so that maybe a good option for tomorrow, after riding.

We had a quiet night here with two others motorhomes. One a Brit van with occupants, with a lovely, typical collie dog, from Sheffield 👍👍. They're on their way to Portugal on a three week trip.

We're now under the willows. We went for a ride in the opposite direction today and, as a ride it was as good as yesterday, but not photogenic, except for the early parts through the various planted areas.

I took a photo of some late sunflowers then we found one field of these ...

Very tall, no flowers or fruit. What are they? I thought tobacco, but Google doesn't agree.

We then joined a riverside track.

The flat ride then climbed uphill to a nice area but with an awful surface in places. Pebbles!! I've decided pebbles are my least favourite riding surface, especially the loose ones, and even worse the loose, wet ones.

We both walked down here. It was steeper than the photo shows.

We had two road closed problems. The first sheep (with a lovely smiley shepherdess with the black umbrella) the second a pile of road blocking our way.

It didn't stop us though (Martin took both bikes over).

On the high ground we saw many different birds of prey. It was hard to see exactly what they were because it was too bright to see their plumage. We did see a huge flock of Griffin Vultures (not hard to recognise them).

I googled if anybody is interested.

I'm not usually a poster on other people's travel threads, but enjoying this one.

We had a leisurely start to the morning. I lightly fettled the van (it needs a good fettling soon) whilst Martin went to the local Dia supermarket and the farmacia for our prescriptions.

We then drove, slowly, with a stop at the Embalse de Salgo de Ordás, to the motorhome parking area of La Magdalena. Hahaha we recognised it from a previous trip, when? we don't know that. Anyway, it being too early to stop we continued to the village of Los Barrios de Luna, where there is parking next to a bar/pizza restaurant. We're just a few hundred metres further uphill under some trees. There's a fiesta here on Sunday, and three guys were marking out parking areas, Martin asked, and they said, yes, to us parking here for the night.

We went for a short walk. Uphill, back to the main road, and then across the dam wall (driveable, even in a van) and back down on the other side of the valley.

The rocks at the side of the dam were wonderfully colourful 👍

Discussions, whilst walking, led us to believe we DID know some of this area, and my photos from last year corroborate that. We were west of here at a very nice area at a hamlet called Riolago. We may head back there tomorrow. Martin has a Mastin friend to seek out and stroke.
