"A Year in Spain" My "last gasp" attempt at posting (informative info).

Whereas it is a pleasant 44° at home in Lorca :hot: Glad I'm in Brighton  Will be returning earlyishin August though.

Maria, in Totana, has said it's a tad hot there 😨.

I'm glad we're up here in the cool. It's forecast to be hotter on Friday though.

We've made a new friend. A Spanish lady travelling with a lovely old dog. We heard her speaking English with someone when we walked past yesterday. Martin later saw her looking at the fridge innards so went to see if he could help. It turns out she's a Spanish, English teacher, who comes from a neighbouring region to us in Murcia.

She's got an appointment in A Coruña on Tuesday to have the fridge looked at, so last night and today we looked after her fridge contents for her. She's now going on a campsite in the hope that the fridge will work on leccy until then.

She has our contact details and we hope to keep in touch.

Anyway ... Martin went for an adventurous bike ride and I went down to the beach with cave we'd seen yesterday from the upper path.

Twice I was asked if I was local 😂 from people asking for info. The second time from the Andaluces seen on my photo from inside the cave.

Yes very hot in Murcia by the Mar Menor. Our friends said it was unbearable really. They’re on Sundays ferry here so will get some respite, and water ☹️.

I really don't know how people are managing, unless they stay indoors in an air-conditioned area.

We have friends/neighbours who have arrived to their apartment on our complex. They are sitting it out there because they have an apartment, when outside they have a nice motorhome that could take them away from the heat for a while.

Will they use it??? No chance 😨

Another great place by the looks of it! My list of places to go only seems to get longer and longer. It seems much more pleasant than 46 degrees. Cheers, Jane
Going to hit 30°c today on this part of the Asturian coastline....just for one day I might add...,,👍🇪🇦🥳

We are surviving in 30+ Murcia (we too should be in Galicia) and now the pool pump has packed up so it's looking more like a pond than a pool atm and unuseable.
Sunshine powered aircon somedays in the lounge, more for the dogs benefit than mine ..

Oh dear, what a shame you're having to stay in the heat. Will you get the chance to come north anytime?

We had to leave our lovely spot at the lighthouse because we HAD to go to empty the loo. We drove to the nearby town of Luarca, with an official, well signed, motorhome parking area and service point. The parking was rammed, so once we'd done the necessary, we left to go to a parking area in a nearby nature reserve of Baralo. We we're the only motorhome there, with three or four camper vans, and we had a quiet night.

Wanting shade today because we are getting about 30° we drove to Navia. It has a serviced motorhome area at the back of Eroski, and again it was very full. We only wanted to do some shopping though because just 1.4 km further, at a beach, I'd found some parking under Eucalypts. That's where we are now. Surrounded by cars and the later arriving motorhomes can't get in the shade.

We've had a walk and we're now watching the world go by before we have a cold lunch. This is another lovely spot in Asturias.

Judith, not Martin 😂. But we both feel for you and have a safe trip back, although we may ourselves get some rain again over the next few days.

We really don't mind. We are happier with wet weather than 45°+/-

"nature reserve of Baralo" .... err, did you mean Barayo, p'raps ? (And, end of month hopefully...)

Haven't I read elsewhere on here that you get very sticky sap from eucalyptus?

Possibly. From Pines also. We'll risk it for the shade. Our van needs a good clean and the paintwork sorting anyway 🙄😂

Very inflammable sap, certainly .... most Portuguese forest fires are eucalyptus fuelled; they produce a lot of combustable litter, leaves, bark, etc.
A lot of hectares were planted for paper-pulp. Banned there, I think, now.
Watch out for disposable barbies ...

Yes I have always thought that about eucalyptus trees, so much dry bark!
Do like the smell!
We have noticed that some plantations are cut down when only small? Any ideas why?

I think, but could be wrong, it's used by florists

I've no idea about the eucalyptus trees, but we're no longer parked under them. No more round heavy seeds? falling on the camper roof. They served their purpose for shade during the day.

We've decided to move to the official motorhome area for the night. Cars, with music playing, were arriving to the bar/restaurant, so we thought we'd move sooner rather than later. Friday and Saturday nights need "respecting" 😂. Of course we may have had a very quiet night there, but we'll never know.

The 'juvenile' foliage is indeed used for florestry, but more likely is that it's a gov't requirement. I've seen land for sale in Portugal (on the internet) with notes in the description saying that it needs to be cleared of the current planting, i.e. eucalyptus. The growth I've seen that needs clearing is bigger than the stuff the florists want.

Well, for a town parking area, last night was very quiet. We still wonder whether the place in the eucalypts would have been good, or not.

Some light rain during the night had us moving on today. We stopped off at one area, but it was down in a valley and we had no internet signal at all and, as we expected some more rain, we didn't feel we could sit there twiddling our thumbs, practicing the guitar (Martin) and Balmy Drum (me) all day, so we drove back out and ended up at our present spot. A huge field, opened up for parking by the town, on the edge of Tapia de Casariego and just still in Asturias.

We parked, waited for the first shower to pass, then went out, suitably dressed for more rain, to do a walk. We recognised a few places from two years ago when we did a bike ride from further along the coast.

One place is a strange area in a forest, but it's now a tourist attraction and seems well reviewed. The Garden of Camerada (translated). I'll leave my photos to explain.

The Camino Norte (Santiago) goes through here and we walked along part of it.

There's also a good indication of the weather in this area. Lots of hydrangea 👍

Loving all your photos. :)
As no-one has mentioned it, I thought you might like to know it's blowing a hoolie, back here in Blighty, and has been most of the day!

It's blowing here now also, but not a hoolie yet. We've just found that it's FIESTA here, so we've had a walk around and left.

We didn't fancy this, bearing in mind we were parked about 300 metres away.

  • 23:00 h. Espectacular verbena hasta altas horas de la madrugada con CLAXXON Y DJ PEDRO BRMUDZ 🤣🤣🤣
It doesn't need translating. Except it starts at 11.00 pm until the early hours. And don't think Claxxon would be our cup of tea!

We're now 6km away parked next to a cemetery.

Now we need to see a duet, I'm afraid ... it's something for you to do on a rainy day.
Might I suggest Samba Pa-Ti, p'raps .. ?
(It's just jealousy; I have no musical aptitude whatsoever - not even for hitting things)

All in good time (a long time) 😂
