I'm at my best pal's house near Pontivy. Unfortunately it's too bloody cold to go out and take any photos.

We bbq all through the year and I usually go round the garden centres to buy up end of season charcoal to get me through the winter. This year though, the hallow'een and Christmas rush came a bit too early for me and I missed out. I know I could buy it online, but I've decided to have a go at making my own by the retort method. I had a good search on Youtube and decided to build a hybrid rocket stove/Hooke type retort from an old 47kg propane cylinder. Got the central flue, body and base sorted today. I need to buy some stove rope (my only purchase so far) and give it a try out before I lag and clad the cylinder. Good job I have a free supply of hardwood logs. Watch this space !

We took the dogs out for a walk this morning, the golfers don't know what they are missing..

What?

Your dogs stole their balls?

I thought they might have noticed that!

Strangely, our two just look in the direction of where we throw the ball then give us that look ‘you threw it, you go fetch it’

Mine too.

My wife threw the ball into the lake near us. The dog just looked and walked away and we had to wait for the ball to float back to the shore.

Got a bit more done on the charcoal retort today. As it's a bottom loader, I made a stand that allows the chamber to swivel, with a pin detent to hold it in place when filling and firing rather than having to heave it about to empty it. Quite pleased with it so far, hope it works ok. As a distraction, I was looking at simple gravity feed waste oil burners too on you tube (mostly Russian strangely) and might have a go at adapting this to oil firing as I ended up with 20 litres of waste oil from servicing our son's tractor last weekend.
