A photo of the day thread

A nice view to wake up to
Northern Spain

Perhaps not the most stunning photo ever displayed on this thread but significant nonetheless:

It is the window at Lacock Abbey that was the subject of the very first photograph taken by Fox Talbot, the inventor of the photograph back in 1835 (182 years ago)

A couple of days old now but spent three nights in the aire just outside Pamplona. Very quiet at night, plenty of walking to be had if you like, or bus just around the corner every 20 minutes into Pamplona centre.

When's the bull run:D.

No big bulls this time. Think it must be some time in July, we came through there in the car and everyone was wandering around in white with red neckerchiefs, No wonder they get chased, serves them right (the humans that is)

The aire was free and up to 72 hours, waste and grey free to dump but water token for e2.10 for 100ltrs. There was a price list up which I think covered the bull run period and you then had to pay per night.

We'll use it again when we head north and south, easy straight of the Pamplona Pa30 ring road

I have to admit that these were not taken in the last 24 hours, but I have been slowly working my way through my photos and sorting them out into electronic albums. These are actually from 2016.

From posts I know that a few people have visited Eastney and Langstone harbour is one of my favourite places around Portsmouth. When I took these, we had just berthed the boat in Southsea Marina and the light was amazing so I grabbed my camera and managed to snap these photos. They are completely as taken with no lens filters used nor any post production alteration or enhancement other than being cropped. Just lucky to have been there at the right time...

Canalside Pillbox ???

View attachment 193062

History and/or WWII buffs - why a pillbox along a canal... surely Churchill wasn't expecting Hitler's army to come chugging up the Kennet & Avon in armoured narrow boats at a stately 5mph ?
A quote from K & A Canal Wiki page..

During the Second World War a large number of concrete pillboxes were built as part of the GHQ Line - Blue to defend against an expected German invasion; many of these are still visible along the banks of the canal.[14] They were generally built close to road and rail bridges, which would have formed important crossing points for enemy troops and vehicles.
So to answer your question...Oh yes he did!!!;):LOL:

Maybe it just torpedoes speeding boats?
