A view from tonight stop, well almost, had to walk up to the edge of the escarpment to take the photo.
Inland from Bilbao.

This little fella, a slowworm, a legless lizard (waiting for the legless jokes ;)) was heading under the camper to get out of the sun. Left my size 12 in the shot for comparison.

Is the from the Puetro De Orduna?

Yes, thanks to your post on a thread October last year.

We saw the vultures soaring along the edge on the way up to the carpark at the top but by the time we had a bit of lunch and got to the edge they had gone for a siesta. Several guys with paragliders rolled up about at about 5-ish so after a quick bite to eat we headed back up to find a few vultures soaring with the paragliders further along the ridge.

Not to siesta!

FYI, the Ridge line is northeasterly facing and the rock face catches a little morning sunshine and eventually the rocks warm enough to generate thermals just strong enough to support the vultures. As the morning passes the sun gets higher and warms the grasslands out front so the birds glide forward into the valley to take the stronger thermals. Also they feed on dead carasses and there is more food in the valley. The vultures have fantastic vision but also an amazing sense of smell, they can smell a rotting carcass from a ridiculous height and distance before following the aroma down for a feed.

We would often buy a chicken, chop it up, then lay it out on the clifftop edge, just for entertainment. That is a supermarket chicken :)

In the afternoon and early evening the rock face again becomes the best source of lift and the birds return. That is also why the Paraglider pilots arrive in the early afternoon.

They also have a 'shit rock' where they all go to defecate, if you look hard you'll soon spot a white area on the rocks where the birds queue to spend a penny.

Good Morning All.

Misty and rain forecast for today.

Sitting drinking coffee and reflecting on memories induced by the photos of Orduna and thinking I must renew/get a passport. :)

Also enlisting that I didn't spend any money at all yesterday, save I used some fuel that was already bought and paid for, drank coffee using credit on my Starbucks card and didn't got to 'Spoons as I found I had a steak in the fridge at home.

Today I have nothing that needs doing, not one thing, except drink my coffees :)

Hope people are feeling better and good health rules over the forum.

Arcones White Rock.jpg

A different mountain range, this one at Arcones in Central Spain. Lots of Griffon live here and although it is grainy you can see their 'Shit Rock.' When you get to the top of the mountain you find that the rock is inaccessible to all but the hardiest of climbers, but even then you need protection as the birds will 'bomb' you if you try to get close.

273 miles to Edinburgh, that is quite a hike. Is that Orkney that can be seen in the distance.
