Dogfish, small shark I think.
Edit: Definitely dogfish, aka Rock Salmon, Rock fish, Huss common in chippies in the far southlands:)
Interesting. This was in the far northlands (Isle of Skye).
Thank you

The donkeys looked really healthy the little children looked happy made for a nice stop on our ride along the coast.

@CWH just looking more closely at your shot over the bay with the MH, cleaned my screen but couldn't move the black mark in the middle :)

had you spotted the big bird or small plane dead centre? can't zoom in very well, if not a plane :) looks to at least be a raven if not an eagle?

That's funny David, I did exactly the same thing!

Thanks for the photo Carol , memories came flooding back to when I was a kid . We have family photos of us as kids (all 8kids) being on the beach on donkeys. :)

Simple childhood memories and so much fun.

Here is Jake the idiot dog's latest girlfriend. A food obsessed very porky (alleged) Pomeranian - she is a temporary foster dog (lady owner died) but would also make a really good fluffy rag for motorhome cleaning just like when @cruiser rents out Thomas* for overcab cleaning. Very friendly but the only time I have seen her actually run was when the fridge door was opened..........

* no (alleged) Pomeranian dogs were harmed during the making of this post. But honestly, what other uses do they have (apart from a pull-through for a 155mm artillery piece, that is). Answers on a postcard........

The above references were a joke, by the way, and has been running between @cruiser, Rose and myself for several years.......

Where was it....in the sea?

Sticking with dogfish, never seen a brown trout that long and with a fin like that.

Another name is the Lesser Spotted dogfish.

But then again........never was much of a gambler:)

2nd edit: Wrong again!

'Twas in a little brook about 20 meters from the sea (maybe 100 meters when the tide's out) west coast of Skye.
Not that big - sorry didn't have a 50p for comparison - about a handspan is all (about 20 cm), & some other smaller ones down to about a third of that, all zipping about or occasionally just hanging.

I fear @Smith and Sharp is correct, definitely a brown trout:)

Gracious in defeat... ;)

(why? what makes the difference?)

Dogfish live in the sea and usually deeper water, I did think it was unusual to see one in the shallows.

Brown trout are fresh water fish and particularly in streams, quite common to see them from bridges etc, they are even common in Todmorden:)

Thank you for the explanation @matamoros . As they say, every day a school day!

The fish is a trout! Possibly sea trout if in tidal waters but probably brown trout. Why is it a trout! Because it has an adipose fin at the rear end. Not sure about spelling but certain about species.

Interesting reading around that one, thank you! (I was hoping they were salmon, but I suppose it's the wrong colour or the wrong spots or something... :( )
