A photo of the day thread

Garda this morning, a huge market on the lake side with lots and lots of high quality goods all apparently made in Italy.! We escaped lightly thank goodness with two salad bowls.

The view down the river was beautiful, the market was not.

Did some botanical photography on today's walk.

Bluebells:

One wood is full of wild garlic, now in flower. A couple of weeks ago I collected a bag of their leaves and made a pesto out of it. I ate it with some pasta and it was very pleasant and unexpectedly mild.

And for the pteridologists* some black spleenwort, which I found growing in a small patch in a local lane.

* new word for me too, I only came across it this week. :) Pteridology is the study of ferns. The word is derived from Greek and refers to fern fronds looking like wings.

On a vaguely related note, this afternoon was the first field trial of my new "man bag". It carried the camera, two lenses, a small bottle of water, phone and wallet. On a two and a half hour walk it was fine and unlike a small rucksack I didn't end up with a sweaty back. I am converted. :)
What wasn't a great success was how I was carrying my binoculars. I've recently bought some 8 * 20s which are very light and come with a very small case which fits on your belt. However, up to now I've worn them around my neck, which is fine if you have a jacket on because the jacket stops them bouncing about as you walk. Today was warm and sunny so I didn't wear a jacket so I thought I would carry them in their case rather than have to steady them with my hand all the time.
Near the end of the walk I saw two magpies on the road next to what I thought at first was a young rabbit but which I very quickly realised was a stoat. The magpies flew off but the stoat ran along the side of the road towards me then stopped for a while before climbing up the bank. Now did I get a good view of it through my new binoculars? Well no, though I was able to study where it had been in great detail.
Carrying the binos in a case is useless for rapid deployment to view rapidly retreating critters. They will stay around my neck on future walks. :)
And how did I know it was a stoat?

(Groan alert)

It was stoatally different from a weasel. :)

Went up to Cranham Woods this morning to have a look at the bluebells. Loads of them out @John Laidler but the garlic hasn't started flowering here yet and no weasels. There was a horse but that is stoatily different

I lost count of how many times I said "Wow" while we were on the west coast.

I reckon I said it the same amount of times as I said, "Oh S**t!", as I saw another timber lorry heading towards me on the twisty mountain roads.

Question - How long does it take a Scottish Timber lorry to slow down from 60mph to 30mph as it approaches a Motorhome on a tight bend?

Answer - Nobody knows because it's never happened.

Last year I had a few items taken out of my mh whilst away on a rally ... one of which was a very precious, to me, crystal ..... it really upset me.... but yesterday I bought a new one and hung it in my van ... REALLY LOVE IT ... it is like being in a ballroom with a crystal ball throwing all the lights around me... HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY ....

This is Potters field on the south side of tower bridge.
It's a new residential development which is just about finished, they have now opened up the ground space to the public. Before the flats were built, it was a coach park, part of this development will be a new 900 seater theatre which opens this Autumn.
In the distance is the Thames and north side is the Tower of London. It was so quiet near the fountains, on the bridge were thousands of marathon runners and their very noisy supporters (well done to them all) .
