A photo of the day thread

It looks empty and sad . What's the next thing ? They do well at that venue!

The venue has its own history;

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roald_Dahl_Plass

It does make a wonderful outside event venue. At the lower end the lock gates that retained the water and allowed large ships to sail right up the the city centre.

Here is Roald Dahl Plass or as then, The Oval Basin;

To the right of the Oval Basin you can see a rectangler basin, that has been filled in and is now the location of The Senedd, the Welsh Assembly building;

A £70 million showpiece. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Senedd

Above and slightly to the left of the Oval Basin is the water way that allowed ships to sail to the city centre, that has also been filled in and reclaimed, now known as Lloyd George Avenue.

Now a major road that delivers vehicular traffic from the Bay to the city centre.

@Go Humberto, where abouts are those staircase locks?
I can spend hours sitting watching boats going through such systems:)

Just in case "Go" missed your post, it's Caen Hill locks just outside Divizes. There is a c&cc campsite on the Kennet and Avon canal about a mile or so below the locks or a campsite at the Three Magpies pub next to the c&cc site, well worth a visit.

A mile West of Devizes in Wiltshire. On the Kennet & Avon canal. It's the "Caen flight".

C&CC Certified site at Foxhangers Marina at the base of the flight. A lovely walk into Devizes as well.
Whoops I see people have replied.

See 2 minutes 45 sec into my >>video<<

I saw just one boat, coming down the flight, in the 2 hours I was loitering there. Makes a change from a sunny Bank Holiday when it gets a bit more frantic.

Reminds me when we bought some live crabs in St Jean de Luz and Dave was carrying them in a plastic carrier bag. He went to thepublic loo and came out laughing. He'd put the bag on the floor whilst doing the necessary and the crabs walked out under the gap at the bottom of the cubicle door! :LOL:

Wish I could get rid of my crabs as easy as that...:eek:

How can you tell hornet from wasp, please? I would have thought I had wasp sting.

Easily identified if you see the insect, the hornet is larger and colours not as striking as a wasp.
The hornet sting to me appears milder than a wasp sting although it could be that I Swiped it off before it injected a complete dose, they apparently can sting up to three times before they use all their serum.
It's odd that this year we have only had a couple of wasps then I get stung by a hornet :doh:
