A photo of the day thread

Had a cycle ride this morning along the trasvase (the canal that brings water from the Tajo river in the centre of Spain to Murcia).

Judith it looks very hot and sunny still! Hope Martin is ok and your pizza star looked yummy!!

Thanks @Anthea M It is still hot and sunny but quite fresh. Next Wednesday is forecast to be over 40 degrees so won't be so comfortable then. I was happy with the pizza star and will make it again. Last, but not least, Martin is continuing to improve. He's taking this opportunity to play with various internet thingies I don't understand or want to understand. I'm outside and can hear the Beatles playing inside something called Spotify I think!

Parked at the aire at St Gengoux le National we head for a cycle ride up into the hills. This view is from this morning looking over the vineyards on a clear blue day before it gets too hot.

We have had a fox in our garden most mornings for the past week. It has been stealing the cats food and moving the bowl. Mike and Sabena haven't seen it at all and I think they were doubting its existence. This morning I managed to get a couple of photos.

In China fox animal symbolism revolved around the afterlife. Lore has it that a fox sighting was thought to be a signal from the spirits of the deceased.

Wow Andrea in light of what has happened with your Bestie that is incredible that that little fox came to visit you.xx
Safe journey and hope you can comfort each other!

I know especially if it turns out that Emma died on Monday as that was when the fox arrived in our garden o_O

Dartmouth Castle (EH) today. Some outside views including the sister castle across the entrance to Dartmouth where a chain was raised to prevent enemy ships from gaining access to the town. The ruins of the original castle date as far back as the 100 years war with France, I think this one and the gun batteries below are early 16th Century. As usual for the West Country there was action here in the Civil War. Dartmouth was also the port where two crusades to the Holy Land set off.

Managed to lose one pic which had vanished into the ether! Anyway here are some inside views - the castle has just benefited from an audio visual upgrade and new displays. Down below are where the big guns are found.

Then took the ferry into Dartmouth, had lunch then walked back the mile back to the van. If you've got a big van it might be best to park in the town and take the ferry to the castle, so the opposite to what I did.

I passed the Rockfish today at about 2.30pm - saw some serious portions of fish n' chips being devoured outside, wonder if that was them? Went to the 14th Century Inn a few doors down and guzzled the most refreshing ice cold pint of cider I've ever had...

They were upstairs on the roof terrace with a baby!

My bike parked on one of her extraordinarily rare excursions next to the lock by the campsite at Condom.
Pretty new panniers courtesy of Lidl, Hawkinge and new basket (Lidl or Aldi last year), I was stupid enough to to think it was the same as the previous one - wrong so take off old fitting and put on new ones. Could not be bothered to fit bike computer thing now so it can stay in the box;

Though my stay here is longer than intended I can recommend this site without reservation. It scores on every count for me and I will not hesitate to ensure I stay here if in the area again. (mind you someone else could have a thoroughly miserable time and think I an talking through my hat).

The basket contains my purchases from the vide grenier, one vice and some model railway bits - yes I am one of those sad anoraks but I prefer girls when push comes to shove!
