A depressing day

Get them to send it straight back to Polch, fit the correct fridge and sue the dealer for loss of use for the period it takes, on the basis that they did not supply what was ordered.

Should speed things up a bit.

Don't let TW bodge it up.

jako999 is this what they have fitted?

That one of their used vans.
I am afraid to say that is the exact set up which was in my Flair and the set up that caused us so much grief. The oven never worked, always tripped the thermocouple because of heat build up. There was no heat exhaust installed due to the microwave above. They did move away from the Thetford oven but appear to have gone back to it in your van, it is identical. Could it be a supply issue? We are seeing many many vans coming off the production lines with changes to normal manufacturer fitted goods purely due to the lack of availability. My advice to you would be don't believe a word Travelworld tell you about the oven, they failed miserably during my two years of ownership and subsequently failed during the next owners ownership. I would have a very close look behind the oven, they may have found a way of fitting an exhaust, resolving the issue....good luck!

It really makes you wonder how these sort of c*ck-ups
Because people rely too much on the computer saying “No”.
I ordered a new Mercedes’ van and specified the exact same specification as my existing van. The salesman did as requested until he got to the map reading lights, which he added as a separate item even though the computer told him that by doing so it removed the telephony, online services and alarm. At the end of the build request it warned him again and he ignored it again. A few months later I rejected the van as not fit for purpose and the dealer gave me the van free of charge until a new van was built correctly.
I don’t think people really read anymore, they press buttons, get to the end and press OK, probably haven’t really read a word of what they’re doing.

UPDATE TIME
Ok so on Tuesday they said there is no way they can build a new one for us any time soon in fact I am still waiting for some idea of when as for keeping this van and compensation they said they would credit the awning at £1600 that’s just over 1% compensation so I reject that saying your taking the pee, nothing yesterday, so today they offered a final offer of not the awning bud the media system that’s £2600 that’s a compensation offer of around 2% I still think they are taking the pee. It’s going to cost me £3500 to put a Spare fridge freezer in the garage on top off that there’s the loss of garage space and all the hassle.
Im going to go and see the dealer next week to have a chat. I’m wondering if their loosing the Niesmann dealership after all as the only UK dealer they should have far more clout to apply pressure to them.

Have you asked them to supply and fit a fridge freezer in the garage? If you state that it would clinch the deal it might incline them to agree to it.

Good luck!

UPDATE TIME.
Well the final offer was £2500 off and if you don’t like it you can have your deposit back and call it a day.
We are not waiting again and missing the year and I want a Niesmann. There’s no second hand ones so we have had to accept it and will collect soon. I know we are always going to look at the fridge and say it’s not big enough and so on but what can we do? Only time will tell.
Very disappointed in Niesmann and as for the dealer I had heard they were bad, I can certainly clarify that and advise never to buy from them customer service ZERO apart from one nice sales person who needs to leave and work for a proper company.

You have done what you think is right for you, we could all tell you to stamp your feet and give the salesman a wedgie but that dont help you....I hope you enjoy the van and have happy holidays in the future 👍

Glad to hear that you have a resolution to the issue!

With regard to the fridge. Is it one of those which have a removable freezer inside? If so you could remove it, buy a freezer to go in the garage, and you’d then have more room inside the fridge.

I am sure it is frustrating and annoying for you to not get the spec you ordered, someone somewhere cocked up big time and I don’t suppose anyone will admit it!
At least you have a van now and the make you wanted, make the most of it and enjoy it, remember every van is a compromise of some sort.
Good idea Southdowners!

What's done is done. Wishing you loads of happy trips, perhaps use for a time to see if you can manage without a fridge/freezer in your garage.

Sorry to read about your situation. If it’s any consolation, you’re not alone and most get sorted in the end.
We spent 5 years as caravan park wardens in various parts of the country. We could write a book about the problems people have had with new or secondhand motorhomes/caravans. One of the worst was a brand new van where the owners had trouble with their gas. As luck would have it, the person on the next pitch was a registered gas fitter and found a split fitting. As an ex gas engineer myself I know that fittings don’t just split randomly. This must have been over tightened on installation, so how on earth did it pass a gas test???
Hope you get your problem resolved quickly .
Regards Steve

There service has been terrible for years. I had many a conversation back at Polch about them. They repaired my habitation door so badly it bent both motors leading to a complete change out of internal parts. Polch asked who made the adjustments and just shook their heads when told. They are selling units so guess they don’t care too much.

I am thinking along the same lines, because you may find that you can adapt your shopping and cooking to the set-up they have supplied.

However, I think the discount they have offered is abysmal.

I would investigate the possibility of accepting delivery whilst still protecting your rights to higher compensation for a product 'not meeting its description'. This would need legal advice beyond my current skills, but could end up with another £10K+ - my guess. Worth a phone call to a specialist Solicitor - call Law Society for a list of those in your area. Even appointing a lawyer and threatening action could make the compensation offer add '000s. I am speaking from professional experience on multi-million $ claims. [If you are interested I can tell you a story by PM]

I am only suggesting this course of action if legally advised that you can accept the MH and retain your rights for compensation, rather than sign otherwise.

Just catching up on this thread. With the current market you didn’t really have an option of declining the van. It is so disappointing to order your dream van and find it’s not what you ordered.
I hope the current set up works ok for you both. Enjoy your new van.

Any good salesman would have walked the van prior to your arrival and had a solution ready if one exists. Not like your spending £20k. Hope you get sorted to your satisfaction.

Have you considered a coolbox for the garage as a freezer? No, not one of the cheapie thermoelectric models, a proper compressor one. I have one and use it as an overflow fridge for bottles of drink in our van, as even with a decent size fridge we soon run out of room with 5 of us!

But - it's plenty powerful enough to be used as a freezer. One time I was volunteer driving a minibus for a Scout group on a day out, it was forecast to be a stinking hot day - so, as a treat for the Scouts, I put my compressor coolbox in and filled it up with ice creams from the supermarket.

Well, it was a stinking hot day, and parked up & locked up for a couple of hours whilst the Scouts were out & about the inside of that minibus was roasting. Scouts came back, coolbox opened and the ice creams were rock solid - I was impressed at how well it performed. A decent one will cost you a few hundred but worth it. Put a 12v DIN socket in the garage (better than a UK cigarette lighter one) and you're good to go.

This is mine, though I was lucky enough to pick up an Amazon return for £300. I wanted this size as it sits between the front seats for us, but you can get bigger ones. They have a fan but run very quietly, ours has never disturbed us.

Compressor coolboxes are great. I have one in the garage, usually for beer as swmbo complains if beer occupies space in 'her' food fridge. Also works well as a freezer but not both at once, why not have two and still cheaper than a 3 way fridge.

I am sure it will all work out for you. My advice is to try abd stop thinking about the fridge and start looking forward to all the fantastic things about the new MH. When you shop for your travels, it is the time to be pro-active about it and try and consciously reduce stuff that needs freezing or fridge. Then, when you put your shopping away you are not trying to get too much in which will annoy you.
For beer or wine that you want to drink chilled, just fill the fridge as you use it rather than storing in it.

I think that once you get away, in some fabulous place with your new toy, you will feel differently. You have done the right thing in accepting it now rather than waiting - seize the day and all that, you never know what is in store.
