90 new Camping Car Park aires in 2022

I note they are moving into Spain and Portugal and who knows it might encourage more Town/Villages to open more if they are managed.
On their welcome boards they are also showing UK but obviously none there yet though great Yarmouth was mentioned a while ago

Reading through some of these posts it seems that stopping at Aires is now more privitised and a couple of Apps for companies that control many Aires are mentioned.
Depends how much research you want to put it into and where you are going.

Some places, mainly along the West coast are tied up CCPs and the choice is limited but not preventative in finding cheaper or free aires.

Here is a map of the 450 CCP aires

Here is a map of the 3,728 free stopovers in France, and I know there are several missing

If you raised the price to a fiver then there are 3,866 stopovers at or below that price
A tenner raises it to 4,358
15 makes it 5,290
20 makes it 5,862

Just based on these figures CCP manage about 7.5% of the stopovers after 11 years of business. I think they opened 90 last year. It may be a snowball but it isnt accelerating that concerningly (for me)

For every CCP there are 7 free stopovers.
About 60% of the stopovers in France are free.

I have a CCP card, I have 96 euros of availability on it. I tour very similarly to Lenny HB apart from he can afford meals out ;) I have used 4 CCP aires in the last 8 years of membership with them and probably stay 60-90 nights a year in France.

The CCPs really cause me no concern whatsoever, and I doubt they will cause me any concern in the next 10 years.

We use CCP aires and the campsites that have come under their wing.

I don't begrudge the cost to stay somewhere pretty clean and tidy.

As for security the professional thief will get it if they want. They come equipped not on the off chance.

Thanks for that very interesting analysis.

I agree with your conclusion that we do not need to worry for 10 years.

We have recently done 10 weeks to Provence and back and think we spent €30 on parking, but not campsites, just village CPs etc. That probably included the odd €2 for water.

Interestingly in the part of Alsace we passed through they announced that all the Flot Bleu bournes are now free for all services. Nice little touch by the regional council.

However, I was sorry to learn that CCP have had €96 of your money for 8 years, unused. :giggle:

Very serious question. Why do some members expect their overnight accommodation to be paid for by somebody else? Why don't they expect to pay the going rate to cover the running costs. If an organisation, public or private, chooses to set their fees to cover all available services, why complain if you don't require all of said services? there's a very simple solution, don't stay there. I wonder how people would react if a Frenchman complained about the commercial rates of their businesses.

Off to Gib next month and for the first time in about 10 years plan to travel via western France.

Reading through some of these posts it seems that stopping at Aires is now more privitised and a couple of Apps for companies that control many Aires are mentioned.

Is it recommended for us to sign up to one (or perhaps both) systems for easier access to locations or should we still wing it on the hoof as we have always done?

(Our French transit will only be for 7 days max, although once Gib based will probably make the occasional foray into the country.)

Thanks
Ll

I put 80 euros on in May just in case.
Saves trying to remember password

May well use a lot of it next week !

I quite like them but I do have a concern, Their MO seems to be to approach the munciipalities and offer to convert their generally inefficient Camping Municipals into aires, the upside is that they re now open all year round and some of them have great locations = happy days. The problem is where the camping municipal etc wasnt in such a great location, the company comes along and rescues them but the municipality then closes the existing well located aire, this has happened to an extent in La Rochelle where the Aire has moved several times and each time has got further out of town. There are a couple of others but I'm struggling to remember which ones.

Has La Rochelle moved from the Park and Ride with free transport into town ? 15 euros and a broken heart/wallet about 8 years ago for what I genuinely think is the most expensive aire I have ever stayed at (including CCP)
We use the Ostrich farm FP about 5 miles north and went over the bridge to Re from there cos I like paying less for the motorbike crossing than the motorhome crossing. PS Ostrich meat is nice.

I quite liked the old one because it was nice and close to the Centre and Port. The new one is at Port Neuf, a bit too far to walk to restaurants etc, plenty of space though. I don't mind paying 15 Euros but would like to be a bit closer. Nice location for cycling, pistes everywhere.

Another one that has completely ruined one of our favourite sites is blaye, the old one in the centre of town was ideal for us, close to bars and market, now they have moved it too far out of town for me to walk, while the old one stands empty.

That was the council though and not CCP I think?

A bit of exaggeration Charlie it's only 0.8 m from the centre of town a 15 min walk.

When they were campsites. In fact the guy at Pont De L'arche still wants you to when you pay for the aire so I've stopped going.
The new attendant at PDL is not user friendly like the other one was. I still use it though even so.

Hi I don’t think so. The website is quite clunky too. It’s a shame as the CCP app is REALLY good.

We have stayed on about 200 different free Aires over the last 20 years have looked at CCP sites and decided for a couple of euros extra can stay on an ACSI site with a swimming pool so why would anyone want to use CCP?

Password, what password? I don't recall needing one with my CCP card.
Try logging back into your account

You will need a password for that and you need your account to pay extra funds into it

Ah yes. I have it scribbled on the back of my digital fag packet. However, I just topped up with my credit card at the barrier machine, not having used it for about five years until this summer.

Didnt know you could do that. Our problem was we used the wifes email to create an account and thought it was my email account we tried doing it in French at the barrier causing a bit of mayhem. Have the app and fully signed in now so hopefully no palaver in future

We use a mix. Used a CCP for the first time this year for 2 nights. It was midsummer (I teach) so can’t compare with ACSI prices. It was where we wanted to be and was about €13 a night. It felt rural and quiet and unstructured and we were directly in the shore of the lake. I thought it was good value.
We also used free aires and paid aires at €6 per night. These were all on the banks of lakes or canals.
We used sites four times - Epernay €21 so we could use the cycle path except we couldn’t as it was shut for the triathlon 🫤, then in Beaune as the summer rioting was affecting the aire next to the police station, Ypres €16 it was the aire part of the campsite, and Bruges €40 - smallest pitch of all.
I prefer our own facilities so campsites aren’t my first choice.
But everyone had different priorities snd CCPs fit nicely into the mix.

Is the minimum opening amount to be deposited with CCP €80 which is what I think the website is asking me to pay.
Just want to double-check that my understanding of it is correct.

Why would you want to do that, I put enough on the card to exit the Aire, the rest of the time it has a zero balance.

No! I had €20 in untouched for 3 years snd topped up this time.

The interest of 80 euros over 4 months is negligible.

Quite likely to use it a bit this month when going down to West Coast and can do without the hassle if I have to use one. (the islands are favourite to use it)

I feel another throunal coming on !

There's no point in keeping credit on your card. Just top it up at the machine before you exit. We use CCP aires, along with other types of aire. We keep a credit balance of nil on the card.

With regard to the app, I just stay logged in. No need for passwords each time.
