90 new Camping Car Park aires in 2022

Too many people taking out, and not putting back into the community. Many on here doing it. The French have a choice. Provide a service to us for a loss, get rid of the aire (but people will just park somewhere) or charge for the aire.
I’m pleased they are choosing not to get rid of them.

How much of your small pension went towards making your MH power independent?
None that was life savings but using it comes out of pension.
As i said its not the cost but paying stuff that's not needed.

But you have to pay for it.
But there's another thread on here regards paying for something you don't need on club sites, its an inclusive cost as splitting it out would likely cost more and like council tax you pay for lots of things you don't need or use. I am not saying they are good or bad, most we have been on have been good and better than some free Aires but I think their selling point is like macdonalds you know what you are going to get, you can arrive knowing there's space, you are not (in most cases) packed in like sardines and Pierre can't park 20cm from your door🤣🤣🤣.

One of our favourite has no EHU and the services are over the road, still €12 but as most say its in the right location 😀

Every van we have the heating has been gas only & that's what I've ordered on the new one.
Problem is (maybe not in our lifetime) we will move away from gas to heat water and van to electric, whether that's via EHU or onboard who knows.

To look at this another way, you have to admit, that all these electric hook ups, showers and toilets ,water, barriers and stuff plus all the maintenance and land the money they presumably pay to the village, these things just can't be making anything at a tenner a night, so what do you think is going to happen.?

New CCP at Mont-Saint-Michele is 16:50Euro/night. That’s a bargain in what is already a tourist hotspot. They’re taking over! Rip off France 😂

A new one on a pension? 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫

Your pension pot must have been nice and large.

Looking at dealers at new vans this week and there's nothing with change from £60k....

Didn't bother with the NEC as I know I can't afford a new one even on my three pensions...

😉

Haha. That's base price. No solar. Didn't come with gas bottles! They were extras.... Part of a "pack".

Nothing to do with the pension that is very small less than ½ the state pension, van paid for out of life savings. Can't take it with us so might as well spend it.

I’m a big fan and will be making the most of them this year. I’m relatively new to motor-homing and don’t have the experience of Europe unlike the vast majority of forum members and therefore my views aren’t impacted by any past experiences. I’d say that I’m probably viewing them in the same way as someone who viewed aires etc 20 years ago. I like that I get the space, facilities, good locations and security and the costs are under our budget which is always a good thing.

I am not convinced about security as any thief could walk round or under the barrier. Also if wishing to steal the MH could simply by a new card, pay and drive out as AFAIK there are no ANPR cameras linking the registration number.

CCP suits us...expanding into Spain too...there is a similar scheme in operation in some regions..6.05€ a night..

That is more sensible than the €10 to €12 in France.
Lenny, l agree with a great percentage of your postings but for goodness sake, you have a £100k+ MH on order and your bleating about the overnight cost at a price point similar to a decent pint of Lager.

As I said it's not so much the price it's having to pay for things I don't want.
I wouldn't even pay that for a decent pint of bitter.

Because we are tight arses is the reason we can afford a decent Motorhome 'er indoors is tighter than me she hates having to pay to stop anywhere.

So do you never leave your MH unattended Geoff...a visit to the Supermarket, a tourist attraction...far less secure than being on a barrier controlled Camperpark...do you think someone would buy a card in a quest to steal your MH...how does that work...🤔

My point is that being in a CCP with the only 'security' being the barrier is no more secure than the supermarket CP.

As for buying a card at €4 for the card and €10-12 to pay the fee it seems cheap to steal a £60,000 MH. More choice of MHs on a CCP than at a supermarket.

Out of interest what security measures do you have in place? Not trying to be a smart arse just interested to know and learn.

Don't see why anyone would want to pinch a UK right hand drive in France if there was plenty leftt hand drives to have a go at.
Quite right chaser. They wouldn't know what to do with half of our kitchen installation anyway:LOL: Always turn my Van Bitz alarm and immobiliser on every time when away. Our vehicles do stand out from the EU left hand drives so much easier to steal an unalarmed (possibly) left hand drive.
On the other point, for the thief to get a CCP card they would have to drive a vehicle up to the barrier to activate the system, use their credit card to get the CCP card, drive in, steal the van and then what? two vehicles and only one card......... plus their bank details in the system. It's not going to happen. Much simpler to steal one from an Auchan car park.

We do have a security alarm, plus RHD , as chaser pointed out, and it is 20 years-old.

At home in Poland we have the above plus it is at the end of the yard, there is an Alsatian on the premises and an 'A' Class RHD in Poland would be very conspicuous. Also at 3m high it cannot fit into a container.

Also it is insured and even without insurance I could go out to buy the same the next day.

So I do not worry too much.

Thanks, I was more interested to know what you do when out the road.

Why can't you use the searchforsites app or website???
Well that’s a good question! We did that but I do find the screen maps quite difficult to read and like to have an old fashioned printed map to see in advance where we are going. Each to their own!

Off to Gib next month and for the first time in about 10 years plan to travel via western France.

Reading through some of these posts it seems that stopping at Aires is now more privitised and a couple of Apps for companies that control many Aires are mentioned.

Is it recommended for us to sign up to one (or perhaps both) systems for easier access to locations or should we still wing it on the hoof as we have always done?

(Our French transit will only be for 7 days max, although once Gib based will probably make the occasional foray into the country.)

Thanks

I would certainly recommend at least buying a Camping-Car Park card, they cost peanuts.

Just top it up when you want to use one of their sites.

Even if you don't use it, the cards last a lifetime I believe.

It does .

I note they are moving into Spain and Portugal and who knows it might encourage more Town/Villages to open more if they are managed.
