2018 anniversary trip 200 / 100 max miles per day for 22 days

morning all, Just chaught up , David when will you be coming up the west coast?
Not sure whether to like above post, sounds a bit of a nightmare to me.
Nice pictures though. Hope you have a less eventful day today.
I’ll put a like in for the photos:)

I put the like in for you being safe and sound, stop being a cheapskate and go somewhere safe, see you on the other side....

we now presume the van driver or passenger threw a fire cracker at us :( but at least they drove on past us and it didn't develop further o_O
Probably local gangsters trying to shoot your tyres out then........
You better head for the hills quick. Rural is always my preference
Stay safe

the further west we are getting the nicer things are, back to straight roads with trees and much less traffic :)(y) even the sun has come back out we had heavy rain overnight

Stopped to shop now at the Hyper U at les Arcs, the flot bleu tried to rob us, it was free dump anyway, but we could do with water and don't mind paying sometimes, so used credit card approved the €2 then wouldn't open the door, Bev headed off to the Caisse at the petrol, me thinking there was little point trying, but 2 mins later girl appears opens up the back and releases the door internally telling us it needs a hard tug, but she didn't even try. When I looked at the internal of the lock there is nothing to link it to the button on the front so can never work, but based on how bent the lock area was a good few have felt conned, as you have to pay to use even if you force the door open :)

I commended Bev for her efforts then she pointed out the borne is provided by them proudly proclaimed on a sign beside, but still lucky the caisse was open so few are, we were so pleased and there was even enough time left to fill with water, that we brimmed our diesel tank, not only a caisse, but dead cheap fuel €1.31 and plenty of room to get in and out again, all in all quite a rare event :)(y)

looking at aire options for tonight now, some French people we got talking to at the gorge du verdon recommended an area just east of Aix en Provence but no aires anywhere near. we are off to the Carmargue next so may just drive a well reviewed are at Carro, that is right on the sea and sounds great, €11 but we OK on budget still despite the €95 in fuel in total today, yesterday was cheap (no beers :))

it will mean another 88 miles making 148 for today, although the first bit was painfully slow this next bit should be OK, I am just trying to recall whether Marseilles is one of the Crit Air zones as I didn't bother getting one of them o_O will keep an eye out for signs, although I reckon it will be a little like the breathalysers that we never needed :)

Hopefully seaside before dark, got three hours should be just about right (y), only issue now will be getting out of car park, totally classic French we park at least 10 bays from anyone with ,loads of room they home in on us, surrounding us like a pack, even got a MH right next door, not even a bay away o_O, other than I parked over 4 bays, so I do just half a couple of feet to swing (y)

Hello Phil, Carmargue on med coast tonight, then other end of it tomorrow near Sete, then will decide probably to abandon any soiree into Spain and head across to Bordeaux in a day or 2, so 23rd night Blayes possibly, then heading north

do you still cross on the 22nd? Don't go doing too many miles a day, they are tiring (y)

our tunnel back is morning of 28th, so we be at Montreuil sur mer on 27th, probably La Mailleraye on 26th, below Le Mans somewhere on 25th, half way from Blayes to le Mans on 24th (y)(y) or something like that, nothing is fixed :)

Sorry not been reading this thread , thought it was planning for later, anyway just jumped in on the last page, and must agree as i have put onhere many times , although we like going, south of France is one of the first places to avoid with a motorhome, but you are getting into an altogether better area now(y) blaye is our first down on any tour planning, while you are there have a look at the vineyard/restaurant behind the citadel , free overnight parking horse drawn buggys to take you into town , very posh, then again you might know of it, we knew but only went round on a flying visit just to have a look, but at least worth a look if you don't stay, we might try it this time.(y):)

Thoroughly recommend the Chateaux at Blaye. Free electrics water and dump. If you arrive early enough try the 4 course lunch which includes plenty of wine at 23 Euros per person. We stayed 2 nights which is the maximum allowed.

We stayed at the beach front parking at Carro in January a couple of years ago, there wasn't electric (although it did say there was in the Camperstop book), lovely to walk straight onto the beach but it was blowing a hooley when we were there so you could hear the waves crashing! Not much open in the town, but a very pleasant town nevertheless. We would go back if in that area

We arrived too late for lunch, but decided the answer was to stay for another night.

Just for info - the aire at La Mailleraye sur Seine was closed when we were going to go there 3 weeks ago - it was due to the floods - so may well be sorted now. We like to stay there so we can use the Vets in the town. As we had advance warning that the aire was closed, we stayed overnight at a private aire on the outskirts of Ste-Maure-de-Touraine (near Tours) (N47deg 05'35.4" E000deg 36'48.6"), it's 4 euros a night plus 2 euros if you want electric, it's not posh but ok for an overnight stop & charge up. There's a shower, toilet, washer and drier in a outbuilding, although we didn't use these. There's a vet 3 kms away in Ste-Maure - Dr Blain Sylvie, 17 Rue de la Robinerie, who we used, we took our own wormers and she charged us 15 euros.

David, I know you are sharing this info for meeting up with @Scout but we might be below the Le Mans area on the 25th

Still amazingly big scenery this far west

we have arrived a t a little gem of an aire, Carro south of Marseille, one of the reviews marked them down due to the breeze, we thought how unfair, but bugger is it windy here, guess it isn't all the time, but maybe it is :)(y)

winter rates are €7 not €11 and better still card only so Bev paid (again) I suspect that pay back isn't too far away though :)

we got here just before the sun set, but unfortunately clouds just spoiled the best of it, but a lovely location, about 50 places and 30 odd already taken so we opted for a more spacious east facing view, rather than crammed in facing the sea, but picked a neighbour who runs his engine every hour or so o_O

but the view makes up for it :):)

well it did before dark at least

CC 14617 at Marseillon Plage is worth a stop, all facilities, cheap enough, and right bang on the end of the town which runs down to the huge beach. Loads of great eateries there, the first one you come to is an all you can eat Moulles Frittes place for a fixed price, about €12 if I remember rightly (y)

Evening @DavidG58, great following your travels and as always, very informative for future travel plans(y)
Do you know the campercontact code for the Aire you are currently on and if so, please share?

I can find it by looking it up, TBH same as you could

but that's the end of the lecture (y)(y)

brilliant access roads, virtually dual carriageway right to village, then just keep on going to end of road, there are no signs before you bump into it :)(y)

None intended  but next time don’t ask after I have had time for a few drinks on a bad day :) but didn’t it work out well in the end (y)

But seriously campercontact is the first place we check on, then park4night (y) both on line and apps

Many large ships anchor just off Carro waiting to gain entry to Port St. Louis. La Couronne nearby has some nice sites.
