its not getting dogs into morocco thats a problem . its getting them back into spain . lots every year are taken .
but yes get in touch with the embassy if you feel you must.

When you say lots are taken every year do you mean by their owners or by customs?

lots taken into morocco. possible anything up to 5000. lots of eu camper van owners have dogs . see lots each year . even the dogs meet up just like humans . its really funny to see them greet each other . uk, dutch ,german ,french you name it . seems they are all multi lingual. ha ha . and they all do arabic doggy language .
at ceuta they usually want to see the passport and the blood test certificate as ceuta is a spanish enclave .
at tangier they dont but you do find on arrival in spain they usually want it then .
in any other country in africa i have never been asked for any paperwork for the dog . i gave in trying to show health certificates to the officials years ago. think they thought i was some kind of nut case . making their job harder .
same going in and out of andorra all three french spanish and andorran customs thought i was mad .

That's good to hear as I would to travel with our dogs there! What are the dog laws like there? Do you have to walk them on a lead etc?

dont think there are any . best use a lead in a town etc or even a village really . but mine is usually loose . like most of the dogs .
i normally feed the strays as well. even some of them we see year after year .
mine hates police so if i see them coming i try and put her on a line . or i should say did .
lots of the locals knew mine . but then we used to park on the outskirts of villages .
she did disapear one year while we were watching a wedding on the beach at taghazoute . she came back a few days later she had ran up the mountain behind the beach to one of the locals houses and stayed there till he brought her back down . like i say they knew who,s dog it was as we went every year.
think many will be asking about her this year even if we only stay in spain . she was quite well known in lots of places there as well.
i,m sure you will have no probs . but do have a blood test result . and a history of rabies jabs .
i always preferred the ceuta route then if you like you can get back to ceuta spend a few days and go back again . saves a prolongation and you can go the desert route down . not so nice in winter as it can be very snowy getting across to the coast.

If you are taking dogs please be aware that they do not allow dogs on public transport or in a taxi. You can take a goat or sheep on the bus but not a dog

Last Feb-April we did a classic anti-clockwise circuit of Morocco.
However, we missed out the coast south of Agadir and the anti-Atlas.
Now we'd like to think about the Western Sahara down to Dakhla for Jan-Feb sun.
Any tips/advice for this? We're thinking of heading rapidly from Tangier Med south to around Agadir and beyond without much stopping then returning slowly north as the weather picks up.
What do folks do about insurance in Western Sahara?:Smile::Smile:

there is no western sahara . its morocco now was after the green march in 1975 . you can go past dakla . but it does get sandy . el argoub is is about it really you can get close to gulf de cintra but its very barron .mind they have been or started to build hotels down there .
there are police and customs checks on the way down . just past bougdour is the ship wrecks

a couple on shipwreck beach near bougdour and a couple outside the antoine de st uxupery museum at tarfaya . well worth going to . park outside and they will get the guardian to open it for you worth a shilling to look around it . very famous pilot of the french air mail .

So if I get a Green Card for Morocco it will cover me for 'Western Sahara', so to speak?
FCO seem to treat it separately with gloomy warnings about terrorists, Polisario etc (which I take with a large pinch of salt).

there is no western sahara . thats been gone for years . wipe it out your mind . its all morocco. polisario are more on the way through mauritania or at least well past dakla.
my mate bob loves it down there i dont its windy and sand gets every where . even the surf is blown out . great if you are into any type of wind sport . the big sea lagoon by dakla is windy city . wind surfers and kite boarders galore .
not my type of surfing .
but its an interesting drive down . can be a bit long but can be good .

A few others have taken it with a pinch of salt, not to be seen again . The Polisario is not a figment of the imagination. Kidnappings in Western Sahara are not to be scoffed at.

if you get as far down as el argroub . you will have seen enough .
its further down where the main trouble was ,and that was usually caused by the dakar rally . they knew there would be lots to grab . but dakla and around the lagoon i,m sure you are safe . hundreds of m,homes go down there now as its getting a bit harder in the rest of maroc . i,m sure you will meet a few more going that way .
mind you want big fuel tanks diesel is cheap down that way . very cheap.

Thanks to all for the words of wisdom. Will explore the Anti-Atlas and head south to see what we find.:BigGrin::BigGrin:

my mate used to go alone down to cintra . parked near the army hut down there . he liked the tranquility of it all.
i like the anti atlas . lots of tracks going all over the place . we used to search out rock carvings and dried waterfalls .
tata, tafraoute, akka lots of tracks . but dont take the track from foum-zquid to tagounite.across lac iriki .its normally dry but can fill up. but its very deep sand . unless you have 4x4 its a night mare . did it in vw t2,s took three days . dig ,dig . dig n dig . can laugh now but it was hard going .
but even staying on the main roads its fantastic . you feel like a real explorer .
dont be in a rush either slowly slowly or you miss things .

some of the sort of silly tracks we take . plus a special rock by tafraoute . napoleans hat its known as . plus you do have to visit the blue rocks .

We too are excited Pinkie , we have our jabs on th 15th Nov ( not sure what ones though ) , we have travel insurance for Morocco but not breakdown which we will have to sort, they are prepared also to giivie us a greencard...£15 admin, £53 for ?? total £68 .. they will give us a letter to confirm we are covered when I give the dates for the greencard.

What else do we need to organize as we will be joining folk immediately after skiing in France ..one extreme to the other :Rofl1::Rofl1::Rofl1:

ok, seem's the Morocco 2013 thread just wont die and the forum is getting split a little as there are now also 2 morocco 2014 threads running..

I will start the ball rolling again for 2014 and state our plans.
We hope to be leaving UK first week of January and head down to Algeciras, possible short stop over in Benidorm if we get time and at least an overnight at Bella Vista so we can meet again with Rudi the site manager to finalise the meet there in March.
Ferry over to Morocco on or close to 15th January and we will be spending 4-6 weeks there.

Others from the 2013 group I know are planning to go and they will no doubt post here soon.
Some are planning to spend Christmas and New year in Benidorm, so if others want a meet up then camping Villasol in Benidorm looks to be a good spot this winter.

Andrew and myself have also approached Marjal, where we had the 2012 meet, to try and obtain a deal for funster who may be traveling down on route to Morocco, the Bella vista meet or Spain in general.. This is not confirmed as yet but I will post once I have full details.

If we now make this the prime posting thread we can maybe start to form some some of list of who and when people plan to travel. Newbie can then maybe get hooked up with some of the more seasoned travelers....

MOROCCO 2014 HERE WE COME.. :thumb::thumb:

I have cover with saga. They provide a green card at no extra cost for the specific dates I will be over there. Since I am not absolutely sure I will give them the start date eg 8 Jan to 8 April and just tell them when I am back in Spain. This year that will probably be 14 March to make the last week of Bellavista.

I have ADAC breakdown recovery but it is quite limited on the recovery side of things with costs only covered to 200 Euros. Mind you if they can't fix it in Morocco it won't be worth bringing back anyway. :Rofl1::Rofl1::Rofl1:

Naughty....

Our naughty cupboard is now packed and ready for Morocco! :Rofl1::Rofl1::Rofl1:

Really looking forward to spending time in Morocco with other FUNsters :thumb:

How long are folk planning to stay in Morocco?

I ask because of the green card, there is a choice of 2 wks or the 30 days which cost £53 + £15 admin fee with an option for an extra 20 days for a further £40 underwriters fee in total £108 for 50 days in Morocco  (going on dates 10th Jan to end of Feb)

I have checked out another insurer with free greencard but it worked out more than paying for the g/c extra's should we take that option

ps I forgot to add we can travel for 8mths if we want also they will accept stops at Gibraltar for further coverage

We are thinking 4 to 6 weeks max
Crossing into morroco around 6 to 14 th january
Only thing planned is out of uk straight from haggers new years bash
Back over to uk end march got to be home no later 29 march

i must say i think 4 weeks going to maroc will be alot of rushing around . the weather isnt that smart till you get to agadir . many do go for the full 90days . at least then you can get calmed down after the drive to agadir .
i know some of you are thinking about the meet in spain later but i think if rushing maroc you will find it hard work and not get the most out of it .
i would never consider going for less than the 90 days .

We have been thinking about fitting Gasflow so we can keep our gas topped up, how easy is it to get LPG in Morocco, (I have tried trawling through last years thread but I am now going cross eyed) :Eeek: any comments. does anyone have Gasflow fitted. thanks.

I would not get gaslow. We got it and the bottle was leaking around the thread on the bottle. These bottles should have been tested before they left the factory. I have heard other people say that their bottles leaked as well.

As Alan has stated anything less than 90 days is going to be hard work and you will see very little. I too would not consider a trip to Morocco of less than 90 days. Saga will give the green card for 90 days with no charge whatsoever.

Just checked with Comfort, the Insurance Green Card (they add £17.50 to your policy) is for a total of 120 days within the policy starting from the first day of use.

Our policy increased from last year by £7.15p. We do not use their breakdown cover as we have ADAC Plus which includes Morocco.
