Hi, I thought about starting a new thread but wanted feedback from you guy's down in Morocco so hope you don't mind me posting here.
I'm trying to get a handle on the costs of overwintering in Morocco as apposed to overwintering in Spain which I'm currently doing.

My understanding is that camp sites in Morocco are averaging about €10.00 a day but not sure on cost of supermarket food or it's quality and availability.

I was just wandering if after paying additional fuel cost to get down to the bottom of Spain and ferry crossing if one still paid a lot less over two the three months in Morocco as apposed to Spain.

I appreciate there are other factors that make Morocco a must visit place but I would be grateful if someone could give me a heads up on costs.

I will Pm you with some costs... :thumb:

OH !!! Just tried and it say's you dont take PM's. ??????

Still warm enough for shorts and tee shirts in Zagora, but the air is heavy with sand after the overnight winds. Will probably sit it out here till the weather picks up.

Its amusing watching French vans arriving - they have their satellite dishes whirring round before they drop anchor. Many are disappointed as the large palm trees block the signal and the sand laden sky can't be helping either. :Eeek:

Many are towing trailers with quad bikes on and monopolise any spare slots for their trailers. We've been laughing and scoring many nil points as they flit about looking 'pour le tv signal' and its provided our entertainment for today. :Rofl1:

Atlas View camping

To any funsters who are still in the southern regions of Morocco or planning to be & whom I haven't already bored with tales of our stay last year at Atlas View camping, would like to recommend the experience of staying at this campsite (use that loosely as can see from pic large parking area though basic facilities including leccy are available) run by a very hospitable Berber family. It is several km along the road to Ait-Benhaddou, (which shouldn't be missed) from the N9 north of Ouarzazate. On the right aprox 4/5 km before reaching Ait-Ben'ou., 3000 ft up with fab views of Atlas Mountains. Lovely people, freshly baked bread, mint tea & other goodies arrive unrequested & no bill attached. The kids are a delight, ask for nothing except maybe a peek at their school books and a few words of English. :thumb:

Parking to avoid

:thumb:Hi

If you are travelling back from Marocco or Southern Spain heading towards Almeria DO NOT stay at the free camping at Salobrena ,. The vandals are throwing bottles at the campers in the early hours of the morning.

Hope this helps happy motoring

Portland :Rofl1:

Thanks for the info, wont be on our route.. Hope they did not get you or cause any damage...

Greetings from a warm sunny Essaouria. On the port car park.

The place is just as good as my memory said it was.

Site Info please....

Leaving Marrakech tomorrow on way back to Tangier med and a ferry on Saturday.. Plan at present is to head for Moulay Bousalam..

As an alternative, any recommendations of a campsite / parking between Casablanca and M.B. ????? Not ocean bleu, Mohammedia..

We are sitting it out at Zagora, warm today but cooler this evening. The four ladies went for a hamam to the hotel next door this afternoon. They all came back exfoliated and glowing. :Rofl1:

Eight of us (Bob & Ellie arrived today) went back to the same hotel ce soir for a three course meal which was very enjoyable. Expensive by Moroccan standards at £38 for me and Lynda. But hey ho we did have three courses (soup, steak and chicken, and creme caramel suite) plus two bottles of the local pinko rated at 12%. Well happy

Just wondering if we should remain in Maroc for longer than first planned

The french that we have met in camping cars do not even wish to speak to us , let alone invite us to their homes ...

my comments do not reflect on our friends in france , just aimed at the french that we have met over here ,

Funny you should say that, being English but in a French van we find the Brits abroad are, in the main, most inhospitable.

But having said that, I agree that sometimes the French can be a bit standoffish, mainly due to the fact that although most of them learnt some English in school they are very shy to use it.

I have to say though when in Morocco last year it was a Frenchman that helped us when we broke-down

In conversation one of his comments seemed true for many nationalities when he said that many motorhome owners will wave at each other as the pass on the road, but if one is broken-down at the side of the road they will just look the other way and drive past as though they haven't seen them Blush:

Finally left Tafraoute, twice. We can recommend a drive thru Ait Mansour! Now in Agdz. Landed today at palmerie kasbah site after Lynne purchased a "fatima's hand" necklace - a genuine antique, and we have also bought a camel - woven from leaf and dead cool. Might have a couple of nights here. Booked the tour round kasbah for tomorrow.Left makems and kiwi coss in Taliouine and then bumped into them again in Ouzarzat sp. Having a quiet day today after a rather overenthusiastic beer o'clock.
(Tried to go directly across from Taliouine to Agdz but were turned back because of snow storms!) Fab views of the snowcapped mountains last couple of days.

The point I'm trying to make is we don't know what and why people react the way they do, and can't really comment on peoples hygiene habits unless we know them.

In 12 years of living in France on and off, the general comments I would make on the people I have met is they are conservative in nature, reserved, stick with who they know around them and many are shy.

This may be a reason they don't appear openly affable and in particular if facing a larger group of sociable gregarious people?

One thing they do have in spade loads is a tolerance or lack of interest in outsiders, look at the way they allow so many campers to park up more or less anywhere if not causing a nuisance.

Maybe, just maybe the French are across the board more tolerant of a Third World country who haven't as yet reached European standards or how to maintain them even if installed?

Can you in your wildest dreams imagine the UK allowing any amount of free camping or an aire system that France and Germany have? Both countries share the freedom of their towns and countryside with all nationalities.

Back to the subject, is it fair to make a comment about people you don't really know?

I couldn't have put it better myself !

. . . . . . . and as I said in another posting . . . . being a Brit in a French camper, In the main, I've found other Brits in Brit registered vans most inhospitable . . . or may be just shy . . . who knows

We left Tafraout this morning and headed off over the mountain road to Agidea now for about 40 miles of this journey is single track with rough scree either side, and sheer drops, that I prefer not to think about:RollEyes:, while Eddie seemed to think he was on Top Gear and really enjoyed it.
Lucky we were on the inside of the drop, didn't help when we met two large motorhomes coming the other way and one started to reverse stopping on the edge of the drop.
That said the Almond Blossom Trees, houses perched In precarious places clinging on to the mountain sides. the shepherds with their goats, the friendly waves from people as we passed through their isolated villages is defiantly something memories are made of.
Tonight we have pulled up at Tagahzoute Beach, were we had a chat with funsters Alandval and crew barbequeing .
Tomorrow of to Essura where we hope to catch up with Hilldweller and Chrisbyo. Happy Days.

We are in Atlas View tonight and it would certainly rate high in our top ten despite the lack of facilities. Arnica's description is completely accurate.

GPS Co-ords are: N31 00.861 W7 06.252

Mustafa Agadir

Hi Funsters,
Can anyone help me out with the number for Mustafa van repairs in Agadir please.

Many thanks,
Al.

In a effort to conserve our propane, coupled with the repair expense we may incur if we burn the mucky Moroccan butane in our fridge or Alde boiler, we have opted for ehu when available. However the voltage level is up and down like a whores drawers both here in Zagora and also at Mhamid. The fact its a little chilly last thing at night and first thing in a morning doesn't help as many will be switching heaters on.

Consequently we have invested in 2000VA stabilised voltage regulator which will lower over voltage, but more importantly boost the low voltage levels here at Les Jardins by compensating and keeping the voltage at 230v + or - 10%. It cost £50 approx, but its the first time we've had sufficient volts to run our fridge. Result :thumb:
