“Cheap weekend away”

We are off to Woolacombe Sands in Noth Devon at the end of April for a week. Sea view hard standing Super Pitch with Water and Incuded Electric at less than £21 per night (excluding the doggy pack) . Site has shop, dog friendly club that does food, drink and nightly entertainment Plus indoor and outdoor pool. 15 min walk into Woolacombe. Been there before and had a great week. The 20% discount was sent via email as we are returning visitors but even without that it’s a bargain price.

Hi Flightlevel55 & all other Woolacombe sands regulars, Thanks for the heads up on this place.(y)
I know its a long shot, but maybe you will have some local site knowledge, just looked at potential booking for 6 nights commencing 02 May, been offered 2 pitches on levels 1 or 2 numbers 1-06 or 2-08 I think they are at the end of the static vans/chalets, do you think that is a suitable location for disabled wife in a wheelchair? We have on board facilities etc, but what's the view like from there, can I wheel her up to club house easily?
Many thanks for any help.

Hi Flightlevel55 what is in the Doggie Holiday Pack please?

I feel sorry for the coach loads of school kids going to ski resorts, and old people Caught up in the delays. I heard a teacher complaining about being moved around several holding areas with unsuitable toilets at a distance. A nightmare for teachers supervising kids.

I tend to use Pitchup.com, just done a quick search for Cromer area for 4 nights and came up £85 for the 4 days

Hi you can see where those pitches are on the image. We stayed on Avenue 2 on pitch 2-11 and that is on the same level as the shop and the clubhouse is at the end just past the shop. The site is built on a very steep slope and from the club at the end of avenue 2 looking left it is a very steep incline down to the bottom of the site to Avenue 6 where we are staying this time. Pitch 2-08 on Avenue 2 is gravel and it is a mild incline up towards the toilets, shop and clubhouse. Woolacombe is generally quite a hilly area and we went to the beach in the van as there is plenty of room for MH parking (size dependant) in the car parks adjacent to the beach. Because the site is quite high up you can see the sea from most places there. Hope that’s of some help.

Twitchen is good , a little further out but lots of facilities onsite (y)
Been here many times but out of season as we dont have kids .

We always go for ave 6 as its a quicker walk in 👍.... bet its you that stole our fave pitch !! 🤔
Lol probably. We moved down from Ave 2 to Ave 6 last time we’re there after a few days as we found the pitches a bit more level on there but it’s not great walking up that hill to the club though.

We were there for day last as they were building the campsite, made enquiries about it and whilst at the time they hadn't decided on the pricing structure we said we'd certainly come back.
It would cost us £65 for a medium pitch, and yes, the next time we are down that way we'd use it, as I think it would become a rather special experience once the day visitors had left.
Offset the cost with a pub stopover either side 👍
The pitch included two admission tickets which are £14.50 or £18.00 each for over / under 60s respectively.

So for under 60's the pitch is effectively £29 for under 60s and £36 for older folks. Not cheap but not as bad as the initial price suggests. As Bobby-gg said the "bonus" is getting access to the site after day visitors have left. The summer sunsets are great in that area

Time to get out there regardless of the fickle UK weather. Went on CAMC to book 2 nights at Cromer, £100.20 !!!!. One hundred pounds for two nights. Ridiculous. How on earth is the average person supposed to be funding this. Me and mrs B often would spend up to that amount at the location/ town on food , booze etc. I know costs for energy etc have gone up but……
Anyway. Now booked two nights at the lovely Woodhill park East Runton for £55.
Goodbye CAMC sites, up your Khyber.
I agree. Getting out of hand the prices now. I am booked in at Strathclyde beginning of June for three nights £112.

Did they offer you a non EHU pitch?, or just continue as normal, and assume you are a tugger and will need electric to warm your awning up to keep the dogs warm.
If I wanted to book a CMC site for only one or two nights and wasn't offered a price for a non EHU pitch, I would walk away, and tell em why!(y)
Why should "Members" have to wait until fully metered pitches commence?

Oh yes, and I can also recommend “Gerados” Restaurant in the same road as you head back into town.
Very informal and a very good menu selection catering for all requirements.
Can get busy at peak times but you can book.
We have eaten at late afternoon, (4.30 ish) on a Saturday and it was really good and relaxed.
Will look up Lady B’s. Quite like these quirky “Tea Rooms”. 😊👍
Thanks will pop it on my list, hopefully not too far to walk with the grandkids, to beach/ town area maybe a bus route nearby, need to do more research 😀

15 to 20 mins very easy stroll to the beach and town centre from the site.
You will not need a bus.
Also look at the boating lake and small funfair at queens park.
Regular bus service to Skegness seaside amusements and shops.
PS, there is a fantastic short cut through a residential area ( verynice) to a VERY good Lidl supermarket , co-op, boyes and a super factory shop outlet.
Its quite a good place, has its usual amusements and arcades, but above all , its fun! 😊

Can't believe the prices of UK sites at present and they are often fully booked! Going to Europe for 10 weeks at the end of the month and struggled just to get a couple of decently priced sites on route to Dover.

Come to Scotland, you are most welcome in the borders town of Hawick and its FREE! water and elsan point included and just a few minutes walk into town. (y)
Used to go up there in the sixties for the dances. Lots of soldiers at the time.

I've just been trying to book a pitch at Damage Barton, 11th - 25th April it quoted me £252 but when I try to book it, it says session expired. I've emailed them to find out what the issue is.

Hi thank you for taking the time to pass on that info, hubby and I will have our hands full, so it will be nice for the grandkids to experience the boating lake, weather permitting

I had to do a phone booking in the end, £252.50 hardstanding with electric for 14 days, 1 person, there's a bus stop outside the entrance to take you into Woolacoombe if you need it.

I haven't stayed there before but it gets good reviews so I thought I'd give it a try, although it's quite exposed so will be windy with west and south west winds but unless we get a full on gale it should be okay.

Camping and Caravan club site at Mablethorpe, Good Friday, Saturday, Easter Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday, departing Tuesday by 12.00, 2 adults, 2 children, Motorhome and Screen House Pro 4, Hardstanding with Electric,
£180 all in, so basically £45 per night and its school holls and Easter!
Premier Inn at Cleethorpes or Skegness, by comparison, Saturday Night to Sunday Morning, same Easter Weekend, 2 adults only and no food…….£105 per night!
Think I have a bargain! 😊👍

Several pubs here in Skeg let you park, one of the most popular is the Welcome Inn hardstanding if it’s wet or nice lawn type area for normal weather, plus plenty of overnight parking on the south parade after 6 pm

Thanks, did not know that.
Personally though, we want to be on a site, with a known and guaranteed booking and space availability, and with facilities.
If I was stuck whilst travelling through, and it was just 2 of us, then it might be an option.
But thanks for the thoughts 😊

I just looked at the new motorhome aire at Portmerion, £65 for a medium size pitch 7m x 4m or £75 for a 8m x 5m.
It does say out of hours access to Portmerion is included, not sure what they mean by out of hours though ?
Edit. reading the reviews it seems out of hours access is in addition to day access and the reviews seem to think good value even at those prices
I suppose Portmerion is a unique place and worth a visit, and the aire is very convenient.
If that price includes entry then that's £18/£14.50 (depending on age concession) per person saved straightaway. Maybe not quite so expensive then? "Out of hours" is after 18:30 in the busy season so still a lot of daylight left for munging around without the crowds. Overall, looks reasonable to me all things considered.
