13th May 2023
We set off down the coast road and luckily the sun was shining. The road was full of bikers and motorhomes. We saw a few aire type campsites along this road.
Sue and Will only had until the end of the month in Croatia as they had already booked to go out again to Italy in August and the 90 day rule would scupper that if they were not back for the 5th June. We had all enjoyed each others company so we decided to make sure we had time to do the big two of Split and Dubrovnic together.
Angela and I had already decided we would be coming back, so was an easy decision.
About halfway to Split was Zadar. Another walled town with lots of history. A good ACSI site was a few miles out of the town.
We got to the Falkenstiener Campsite in the early afternoon and walked down the the small village near the campsite. Here, much to Pauls delight, we found a bar with Wolves on the tv.
Next day it poured down all day. We got the brollies out and walked into town. Again as with Porec and Rovinj the olest part of the town was a peninsula jutting out to sea. It was a long walk round and took us a good 45 mins.
The pics don't do it justice. Due to the weather I did not take my large camera but had an old waterproof one. Water on the lens blurred most pics.
There are lots of roman places, old churches etc.
At the north of the point is the sea organ and the solar panels that make dancing lights on a night. The sea organ is holes drilled through the floor to the water and as the water rises up them it creates an eerie sound, much like whale calls.
We walked back thoroughly soaked.
At the end of the day we were treated to a nice sunset.
We stayed at https://www.falkensteiner.com/en/premium-camping-zadar (ACSI €23)
