As Clervaux was a little too quiet we went a bit further toward home to La Roche Ardennes.
You may see on the map we had a massive detour. We were due to go one junction on the motorway but we had to divert across onto the other carriageway. We couldnt get off for another 10 miles then had to come all the way back. Nowhere did it say any junctions were closed. All very annoying and frustrating.
When we arrived the place was rammed with sports cars and paddock vans. We had turned up on the annual hill climb race. The campsite was massive and was far enough away so the cars couldn't be heard. The bloke at reception said it was the last day anyway so all would be quiet tomorrow. The ACSI part was a good distance away from reception and we walked over to have a look before committing to the site.
It turned out to be okay but it was a little vague as to where you should pitch.
After we got sorted Paul and I went to have a look at the cars on the hill climb.
We found a nice bar and had a couple of beers. It was still hot and they went down well.
The town was also featured in the battle of the Bulge and there is a decent museum in the town. There are three tanks also dotted about and a few monuments.
Plaque on the wall near the town hall.
Tank no1 outside the museum.
Tank no2 outside the local Spa.
The next day we went into the town and had a walk about.
There is a castle ruin here but we didn't go in. We were all castled out from Germany and Prague.
Lots of shops and bars. Had a meal and a few beers.
The site itself looked like a couple of sites had merged together. There was a pool complex and a large restaurant that was very busy. We did eat in it the next day.
Before that tho, in the following morning we noticed a lot of people walking along the river into the town. A lot of them were in uniform. It turned out it was the annual peace walk. We biked into the town and the square had been filled with small marquees.
Each walking group had its own tent.
There is a local walking route around the town and we had done some of it the previous day. We finished off this route and walked up the hill out of town to where the third tank was.
We stayed at https://www.club-benelux.be/nl as it was ACSI but there are several others to choose from.
€19 per night.
