We've been parked at Stratford cricket ground £27 for 3 nights, no services just parking, it's busy but two selfish buggers have their awnings out, so taking two spaces effectively.

Are you surprised.....? Though if it was stopping me park up, I would say something and expect them to create space .....
Perhaps it's their way of ensuring 'safe' space between themselves and their neighbours 🤔

An awning size gap between vans seems a reasonable distance to me anyway (Awning or no Awning) - For safety reasons and to avoid being kept awake by other peoples snoring.

This is not a camping site.. its a car park that allows overnight parking .. see last post with rules

Breaking the rules, ie parking outside the marked bay will incur a parking charge.

If rule broken persistently , it may result in motorhome parking being ultimately banned..

We'd be right rolling the canopy out part way in a disabled bay that are wider than a regular bay normally. There are plusses to being disabled ;)

There are no marked bays, it's park where you like. So they aren't breaking any rules I guess.

So that begs the question, which has priority, parking within bays (and therefore right next to another vehicle) or the 6m rule. Are the owners of the car park liable if they allow overnight "next to parking" and breaking of the 6m rule, if for instance a fire in one consumes the vehicles either side?

Common sense ought to say either one or two parking spaces between each overnighter...

Correct me if I am wrong but, isn't there supposed to be a minimum 6m gap between each vehicle.

Anything in the T&Cs about not putting out an awning or camping behaviours? Would have thought the cricket club would have said something if not allowed.

I think this place has both marked bays and unmarked parking, if in the unmarked it's hard to make a case against them, especially if there's nothing to say "no camping behaviour"? Not that Im advocating it at all.

There is a simple answer, add no camping behaviour to the t&cs, monitor, then any idiots that break the rules can legitamitly be fined which is a nice little earner, it's not difficult. And word soon gets round the community, same as what's happened at Little Roodee in Chester and the bus bays. (y)

Re 6m "rule" it's a car park, simple.

just back from a northern England tour and some carparks in Northumberland allow overnight parking BUT when overnighting a parking bay is to be free between each van. (ditto Steamer Quay in Totnes)

In the UK the 6m rule should be enforced. IMO.
Just because some pen-pusher decides that 6 metres is the rule, doesn't mean it is right or even necessarily sensible.
3 meters is enough IMHO. But I'm not in a position to make the rules, am I?

The law truly is an ass sometimes.

Isn't the 6m rule really OTT?? H&S gone mad in this country.

I think the 6mtr rule has only originated from the 2 main UK clubs.
Most campsites follow along like sheep, go abroad and you might find you can shake hands with your neighbour without leaving your van!

The 6 mt Rule .. extract from a long thread on this topic

courtesy GJH

First of all it isn't a new ruling. What has happened recently is that the MCC has incorporated the 6 meter recommendation into its constitution in such a way that it has to be applied at MCC rallies.

As far as the law goes, the standards for spacing arise from S5 of the Caravan Sites and Control of Development Act 1960. There are central government model standards for static sites on the National Archives web site, but that appears to be because the legislation changed relatively recently. Model standards for touring sites were published in 1983 so have not been loaded centrally to the Internet but most councils publish their own versions, e.g. Eden Council on a link from this page.

As far as Fun is concerned Safety Spacing is covered in the Link Removed (in the resources section). The first paragraph reads:
Our insurance company dictates that a minimum spacing of 6 metres is required between motorhomes. There should also be 3 metres clear around the entire outfit; where an outfit is taken to mean and include the motorhome (or caravan) an awning room, pup tent, trailer and car. When siting vans remember that emergency vehicles should also be able to secure access at all times to within 50 metres of any Motorhome on the site.
