Stopped at The Hinds Head in Stockport overnight on Thursday. I was attending a concert at the Co-op live venue.

I rode my motorbike (electric moped to be precise) into Manchester and returned to the motorhome at about 11.15pm. Couldn't be bothered to put it away in the garage at that time of night so left it (steering lock on) outside the van right next to where I was sleeping.

4.30 am I hear a motorbike riding around the car park of the pub. There were 3 other motorhomes parked near us.

Then I could hear the riders talking outside our van with their bike engine running. I opened the bedroom window blind to have a look and there were 2 riders with helmets on on their bike.

I didn't think about my bike and theft, just annoyed at them being there and waking me up. A minute later they left.

Imagine my shock when I awake at 8.30an to find the bike gone.

No idea how they got it away so quietly. Lifted the front wheel? Snapped the steering lock and pushed it away?

It's not worth much - maybe £1000 and they don't have the charger which will be expensive to buy. I really don't understand why they took it to be honest.

I do normally put a brake disc lock/alarm on it but didn't bother on this occasion annoyingly.

Police not interested.

Hinds head seemed to be a good stopover. Quiet, big car park, away from the main road. Seems a nice area. It was odd the thieves came over to look - motorhomes are not visas from the road. I wonder if there have been issues before if they are aware that motorhomers stop there. Also, it's light at 4.30 am. I don't think they took it then. Must have come back a little later. Very bold!

After my smashed headlamp from motorway debris the same day it's not being a great weekend away 😡

😒Sorry to hear about your run of bad luck.
Mike.

That is so annoying, sadly not great deal you can do, even if you catch them in the act, Challenging scrotes can be a dangerous game.

Just too much of a temptation but even if it had been locked they’d probably have had it.

What a pain in the arse for you.

Ian

I really don't understand why they took it to be honest.

They’ll take anything if it’s not nailed down then even if it is they’ll break it to still get it…🤬

Sorry about your accident ( hitting the debris in the road)
The police are “not interested” because it wasnt secured properly!
disc lock with alarm and chained to an immovable object or your towbar would have been the minimum to stop someone wheeling it away! I take it it was a momentary slip of memory ( brain fart)!?
I dont think your insurance company will be too pleased either!

The police are not interested when my vans are peeled open like a tin can, and £1000`s of punds worth of tools are stolen either.
I don`t think there interested in very much these days, unless you get a bit too active on Twitter.

No specific requirements on locking from insurance.

I came home at 11.15pm and the wife told me the gas had run out. We were trying to use up some old half empty bottles so I had to mess about with changing bottles and pigtails. It was pitch black , hot and sweaty. By the time that was done I just wanted to get in the shower and to bed. I thought this place felt safe and never considered this bike attractive from a thief point of view.

So yes, a little lazy that night.

Sorry ex motorbike instructor, and despite MANY conversations with advice to students and former students far too many bikes are stolen and no follow up by the police to recover said bikes.
If the beggars want it theyll take it 😐😡

Aye i wouldnt like to be a tradie nowadays, your van would need to be a rolling fort knox to stop the barstewards!😐😡

I live a couple of miles from there. Not the best place to park but how would you know. Stockport isnt the nicest of places. The fringes around are another story. Had my van broken into twice but im anal and all tools locked in a van safe. Still cost another £400 for more dead locks.

Unfortunately the real world is a very sad place these days and will stay this way until crimes are punished 🤬

Until people stop voting for left wing parties.. (🤔 Actually we didn't have much choice until Reform) we won't get any change. You reep what you sow unfortunately 😞

I really don't think political parties have any effect on these nasty little scrouts. They were around in the 70's when I was growing up, there were around in Maggie's 80's, Blair's 90's and they are still here. I really don't think the privately educated, multimillionaire self promoting 'man of the people' 😅 Reform leader will make any difference. If he ever gets into power he'll just feather his own nest. Not sure why so many are hooked in by him.

MORE, of your political biased view point clap trap on a motorhome forum. Take it somewhere else.
Mike.

It won't be Reform anyway it'll be the ReCONform Party, it's the only way the economy busting CONS will get a foot in the door again
Mike.

Not sure why people find the need to tell the OP what he should have done, he already knows and could have avoided the negative criticism by keeping quiet, but credit to him for reminding everyone to keep their 'stuff' secured and locked.

Is the pub where the Poco used to be?

Such an easy mistake to make when it’s been a long day and you’re tired ☹️

Thanks for posting, it is a good reminder that we should never let our guard down at any time for any reason ☹️

If there were good punishments for crimes you would not have to🤬

Bar stewards

Probably kids. We have kids round here who nick those Boris bikes you can hire and then push them into the river.

Why?

I worked in the middle east for several years.
The punishments there are harsh but the scrotes still exist. Lots of single handed ex thieves about though.

Yep where the poco club was. Before my rime to go in it but i remember it being there. Its not a bad area but typical of Stockport you dont have to go far to find a scroat

There was a time that bikers respected other bikers, campers respected other campers. Nothing was ever touched by those in the same situation.
Obviously these thieves are not bikers, just total thieving bastards that think others owe them a living and think nothing of stealing other peoples possession. And it is only going to get worse, unless we get rid of the woke brigade and introduce some real harsh punishments.
The police aren't interested in such crimes because they know even if caught they will just get a slap on the wrist and a petty fine.
Unless that is you happen to cut down a couple of tree and a neighbour reports you and the police attend three times, go figure!

Hang the Bast***s 🤣 only if the little darlings are guilty of course ?

Sorry to hear of the theft. On the headlamp front, mine cost a fortune to replace from the dealer. So try Coastal Motorhomes. They gave a good service when my headlamp got smashed by a stone from a cement lorry on the M6/ M62 junction.

My mate had his car broken into for a pair of beat-up trainers (one of which had a hole in the sole) which he'd taken off to put on his fishing waders to go fishing. He had to drive home wearing waders! :(
