WHY do people collect their grey water in a bucket?!?

As is becoming blindingly clear on this thread, we all use our vans in different ways and in different circumstances and there is no right or wrong way to do what we do, other than to observe the instructed procedures and protocols of WHERE to dispose of our grey waste and black waste and rubbish.
Simples!

There is definitely a 2 camp divide, I'm happy in the watering can and bucket club ( wheel tappers and shunters), 🤣🤣👍

me neither.
Oooh....I do.
Need EHU for all our electric appliances, (rice cooker, slow cooker, toaster, coffee machine, electric tooth brush, TV, radio, phones, sat nav) outdoor electric griddle barbecue, to power the led lights for the flag pole, flashing lights around the awning, e- bike battery charging and of course the 3 kW electric awning heater which we leave on all day and night, along with the portable electric beer fridge.
Oh, and don't forget the portable P.A system and Karaoke machine and outdoor projection cinema.
Like to get my moneys worth!

No need. As they will have been on the underside of the crocs as worn in the shower, and will have fallen off on the grass as I walk back to the van.
I must say that if you are having such a problem with such bodily deposits from sites you have stayed at, you must have been on some very dodgy sites previously.
Just saying like...........

I sometimes stay on sites. Some might even be classed as dodgy. Don't use their showers though. I'm in the not standing on other people's pubes camp.

Not knocking you off course. If that's what your in to. It's the 90's you can do what you want.

Didn't know there were special camps for this sort of thing.
You obviously have a superior knowledge of this than I.
Where exactly are these " other peoples pubes" camps.
Just curious......

Yeah that's me as well, Julie does the washing up and what women do in a morning while I fetch a 15 ltr watering can of water and if on grass empty the grey there if not in to a folding bucket for under the hedge or waste place.
Check tyres and under bonnet then we are both ready for off all done (y)
I can understand people who say that they use a watering can if they're sited for several days. But it sounds like you're saying you fill with a watering can then drive off ( probably past the tap you've just carried the water from!).

If its really what you want you could try searching on P4N. You can guess what the P stands for

Correct.
But didn't have to wait in line sorting out which connector to use or spend time unrolling a hose and rolling up again .
All done in a fraction of the time.

And what's wrong with that?
Van not blocking access road whilst filling up.
Van not having to wait for the numpty in front who has moved his van to fill up, on a low water pressure mains site, for a 150ltr capacity tank.
The op has got up, breakfasted, abluted, done his vehicle checks, topped up what needs topping, emptied what needs emptying, put all his gear away and is now completely ready for the day's adventure , safe on the knowledge that he is fully prepared for his next jaunt.
I too am one who will have the Moho prepared beforehand, especially with fuel etc, and do not wait until the tank is so low that the first stop after setting off is to refuel.
It's all about planning.

I think each to their own as others have said we have a 4 day tank so find it generally very easy to stop next to a tap use our 3m short hose and top up. We carry enough stuff without a watering can!

No, I just prefer to go to sites and hang the upside down pineapple from the cab door handle, and put the pampas grass tub out.
Get some interesting conversations.

I didn’t realise so many people do the bucket and watering can thing I must do an ad hoc survey and watch people on other pitches more, and I thought I already did that a lot 😂

We always use the dump station and always fill up with fresh so that when we arrive somewhere we can pitch straight up. Plus as Lenny HB said we can stay where we like without worrying about it. The only time we use a bucket is if the washing up water is very greasy otherwise it all goes in the grey tank. We do put a bit of tank cleaner in quite regularly and have never had a problem with smells. Queuing does happen but it is not normally more than 5 or 10 minutes and we are on holiday so what’s the rush. We rarely stay anywhere long enough to need to top up fresh water, it lasts 4 days and that is enough for us. There is so much to explore.

Our view, and I understand we are all different, is that we have bought an expensive bit of clever kit and so we might as well use it fully. If we are somewhere that includes showers we might use them on the grounds we have paid for them, but if they are manky we won’t.

Must admit I'm all for parking next to others just to see how long it takes them to move away from an ambulance.
This was meant to be a joke, but it is a fact we have witnessed many times vans will come on Aires and they will all park up anywhere they can rather than park by us, and if we do park next to someone and go out , 9 times out of 10 when we come back they will have moved.

It depends on where we are and how long we are staying.

A bucket can be very useful and emptied as part of the general morning routine cassette run.

One site we often use has grey water drains on each pitch and a bucket makes it easy to empty rather than try to connect a hose under the van in the dark (after being out and about in the van during the day). There is no drive over at that site.

Also if there is a queue to use the drive over using a bucket makes sense.

I do not understand why people place a bucket to collect their grey water when they have a grey water holding tank?

What is the appeal of carrying a bucket every day to the grey water disposal rather than emptying the MoHo tank at the end of the stay?

Please enlighten me!
We are new to this and have only stayed on around 15 sites but only one (curiously the first) had a drive-over emptying drain. Practically all have had an EHU, all have had Elsan disposal but grey water has to be emptied in instalments. Since that also applies at home I might as well keep the tank as empty as possible. Staying up near Malvern last week was the first time I’ve been told to empty into the hedge though.

No room to store a Bucket in addition to everything else.
After emptying Black tank, drain grey tank into it and empty again.
Rinses out loo and clears grey tank. Simple.

We were at the Lincoln show last week, parked with the Funsters, and there was nowhere to drive to for emptying grey waste. Even if there had been I couldn’t have driven because once people put their awnings/tents out there was no gap to drive down (because of constraints we weren’t parked side by side but lengthways). The light was on to say our grey tank was full and I didn’t have a bucket. I emptied my toilet cassette, emptied the grey waste into a collapsable washing-up bowl, and transferred the water into the empty cassette. Once this was full I then took it to the Elson point for emptying.

I’d never get a bucket under my grey waste outlet. Have one of these which is perfec for the job Rodders..
