WHY do people collect their grey water in a bucket?!?

If they are in the shower they are pretty clean, can't see a problem. People get a bit hung up on others pubes. If you've picked any out of your teeth it puts it into perspective 😉
What, from the shower????
That's a whole new debate.

I think in most cases people aren't filling their tanks with watering cans. Just making sure you have enough is the way to do it.
Who said I filled ours and how much is enough?

We were in Germany on a tour with a group of 9 motohomers a few weeks ago, my hoses managed to get round all 9 with no issues and about 25/30 mins

Dread to think how long and how many trips using a watering can lol

Go to sites full of 100 litres of fresh water. Top up with a watering can full now and then if away more than five nights.
Waste tank is 40 ltres. Speaks for itself...four buckets maximum in hedge.
Use all our own facilities cos don't want to walk to showers, hang clothes on one peg, walk in others pubes, get dressed while damp then walk back. Shower in comfort of the van.

Our can and bucket habit started very early on in our Mh hobby. We got to our first site and we had the wrong attachment for the hose and someone took pity on us and lent us a 10 ltr can to fill our 90ltr tank.
Then 2 days later when leaving the site, queued behind 2 vans to empty the grey waste. We drove over the grid, I opened the tap and stood for over 20 minutes watching half a tank dribble out of the tap. It was embarrassingly slow, so much so that I didn't complete the job :whistle2:
My next purchases was a 10 ltr bucket and can, it made life so much easier, for each 10 ltrs of waste I remove, I top up with 10ltrs of fresh and when I empty the toilet cassette I top up with another 10ltrs of fresh to compensate. We had our 14mm tap issue solved with help from Two on Tour (y) who recommended we purchase and fit a larger 28mm tap which has worked a treat.

I'm always well aware of our payload and rarely have more than 50 - 60 litres of water on board and empty the grey waste before leaving every site and prefer to keep our diesel topped up wherever I see it at a good price.
The bucket and can method works well for us. We've always pitched up reasonably close to a tap and have never had to queue up to fill or empty and don't find it any hardship to carry water, in fact it helps keep me fit;)

I do not understand why people place a bucket to collect their grey water when they have a grey water holding tank?

What is the appeal of carrying a bucket every day to the grey water disposal rather than emptying the MoHo tank at the end of the stay?

Please enlighten me!
because I don't like shifting the Motorhome once it's set up for a few days, plus got nothing else to do sometimes

So what brand is this? My current one is a bit deep…
Good question, but I can’t answer as it’s not marked as such. Brought it from the NEC show 10 years ago, but haven’t seen any for a long time, other than the bigger ones with red caps. Sorry, I failed 😮‍💨

I have the big one with red caps! 🤷‍♂️

Oh they were happy days.

It’s dead easy, my motorhome has a tank and the outlet is right in the middle of the floor so unless it’s a cattlegrid drain cover there’s very little chance of hitting it. I have added a length of pipe to bring the drain out to the drivers side so if the drain is on that side ‘great’ but if not it’s easier to use a bucket than attach a flexi hose that when finished with will need to be flushed out and cleaned.

It all depends. If I'm on a site with a grey water drive over empty point I'll use it at the end of my stay. (Don't spend more the a few days in any site.)

If there isn't a drive over dump then a bucket is the alternative.

As for filling with water cans - sometimes it's necessary. Le Mans 24 hr, Silverstone GP, smaller sites/park ups in Europe.

We don't all just go to nice sanitised CAMC sites in the UK.

Like most motorhomes ours comes out on one side, in this case the nearside. I either drive in ir reverse in if its not a cattle grid.

So, a question for the “watering canners and bucket club” (sounds a bit like the Wheel Tappers and Shunters :giggler: ) - what are the recommended Watering Cans (size, portability when full etc) and “Buckets” ?
I'll have a half 🤣🤣🤣

I'm posh mines electric so easy dump anywhere on way out, as alway's a drain somewhere, if not in the hedgerows water the bushes, they don't mind ! Never used a bucket, and never will, same with a watering can, like Lenny just brim it 120 liters when there's a tap, don't belive in fannying about anymore, to much to see and do, especially in Europe 🤷‍♂️

On rallies or CL sites owners often ask you to drop the grey into the hedges, hence a bucket. Some / many places don't have drive over disposal site.
Some buckets have holes in them and never actually need emptying :whistle2:
Do people REALLY have buckets with holes in or is it just an urban (countryside) myth?

I understand the concept but in reality after camping/caravanning & motorhoming since before the Beatles I have only ever heard it talked about, never actually witnessed or confessed to...

A bucket can be very useful and emptied as part of the general morning routine cassette run.
Oh, no! I have the urge to ask another question! Agh.....

Why do people empty their cassettes EVERY day?!?

There, I've done it. I'll get my coat.....

Depends how much, and how hot, the evening curry was.
Quick Tip: If having a particularly hot curry, try keeping the loo roll in the fridge for the morning after.
Very soothing!

Maybe because they don't use any chemicals, there's no need for them if you empty every day. They don't have time to work.

That could lead to my other mystery of why people have motorhomes and won't use its bathroom facilities but I won't go there......:censored:
Unfortunately, in a campervan, my 6'4" husband is simply too tall. If he crouches under the showerhead, he gets tangled up in the curtain, if he holds the showerhead above his head, he will break the fly netting over the window above, blah, bah! It is much quicker just to nip out to a shower if there is one handy. We spend most of our time visiting those poor, unfortunate friends who have long enough, and flat enough, driveways, so we tend to use their showers!

Grey water: Yesterday I was at a site where there was no MH grey water disposal point. I asked the warden and he said that everyone just lets it dribble out on their pitch and also up the lane on the way out. Shock horror.
Site showers: I'm happy to use my van's shower but today I've arrived at a site where the shower is three times as big as mine, better than the one I have at home and is contained in a large private room with loo and basin. So why wouldn't I? I'd be mad not to. Let not your vision be restricted by those showers in the main club sites which are merely adequate :giggle:

I must admit it's may be a myth BUT then again maybe not..
Who knows... My bucket has a solid bottom, honest..

It is absolutely no myth and I have seen it many many times and have run a hose under the van myself in the past. We used to also make up a length of drainpipe with holes in and stuff some grass in as a filter for food debris and fat.

This is all so funny, as in the old day's my grandad used to say the only shower they had was a bucket hanging with holes in it and someone topping it up 🤷‍♂️ It's a hard life for some, feel sorry for you, to many choices 🤣

When at the Lincoln Show I noticed a number of vans camping in the fun area with pipes connected to the waste pipe lying on the floor under the vans. These were obviously being used to drain the grey water onto the field. Like a few others mentioned, there was nowhere on site to empty the grey tanks.

Where’s the best place to get a length of pipe for this use.

Everyone is different. I don't get the using the campsite showers. Why would you want to leave the van in the morning and stand on someone else's pubes to wash?
What if it was the wifes
