Disgruntled CAMC Warden Joining Here!

Evidence?

This would have to go to the AGM for a vote. Do you have any links to this proposal?
Don't be daft. (That's a Tykeism. It's not meant as an insult)

Anything 'meaningful' would never get to the members having a vote.

That's the bins emptied

Next up...how p*** of new recruits
You may wonder why so many new recruits have left this year?

The Club recruited 70 odd new recruits for last year.they promised them a dream job.." escape the rat race"....no more commutes...a healthy lifestyle helping campers
So off they went..sold houses, rented houses out, bought vans ready for the new season
And then Covid hit the news. New recruits were phoned a few days before contracts started and told they were not needed. Chaos and anger

And then when sites reopened they rehired em....this set of staff have had an insight that normally takes a few years and after a few months of site Covid nonsense have voted with their feet

Not sure that CMC are responsible for the effects of covid alone. Hundreds of thousands of businesses had to do just as you said.

Hello again
Judging your managers by their actions.

A few recent examples if I may

1, The. Great Gas Shortage
Last season the Club announced to site wardens that they will nowlonger sell gas themselves out of the warden funded shop but that Calor would arrange it all and the club take the profit. Hi hum we thought.so we all cashed in our cylinders and waited for the Club ...and waited
Seems no one had asked Calor if they could do this....they couldn't

So skkip to this year ,wardens can't set up their own accounts because of bottle shortages and the club can't arrange Calor either .so many sites have no gas ..a shambles

Next up
Toilet Chems
The club appointed a "sustainable manager" at great cost. His first and last announcement was that all sites would only sell green Chems and ban the use of blue.......but....it seems they hadn't asked a huge advert client Elsan who spends a fortune advertising in the clubs mag .next thing we're selling blue again and allowing its use...dohhhh!

Just a few examples that inform our judgement of East Grinstead

A request if I may.
If you like the site you have stayed on please thank the wardens..give us a wave and say bye

We know which side were on ..yours...and lits nice to have a reassuring wave/ thanks

So I'm not going to be online for the next couple days maybe
I'll get back with how staff deal with travellers
An update on the new( second hand) booking system and the deposits you will have to pay and as requested the role of regional managers in all this

As to the video , I not gonna comment on particular new assistant wardens, give them a couple of years cleaning skid marks of loos and them ask em if they are " living the dream"

We pulled up at a C&MC site in Cornwall when we got our first every old caravan. We parked across the road and walked to the office. They took a look at our Linton Arrow and shuffled from foot to foot as we were looked down on and discouraged from joining. Later that year we went to Rhandrimwym Camping and Caravan club site after deciding to join. Not really any better! Arrived on site, pulled up at reception and were told that we would have to pitch in the "overflow" field as they were full. (we had booked!) We waited till the next morning and still a few pitches available so I went to reception and demanded what we had paid for. We got on a proper pitch, but as the oldest caravan to be seen, the wardens just ignored us unless we asked specific questions.

I have to say though, the other "campers" made us feel welcome and as newbies, we were given lots of advice and told that you had to be a certain kind of person to be a warden, but the ones at this site excelled at being hard. We stayed away from clubs for many years, but are now back as C&CC members. Have used two sites in five years, but save about £70 a year on purchases from Go Outdoors for family camping stuff with the extra 10% discount.

We normally leave a thank you card. We do appreciate hard-working wardens and the help we get from them.

Oldwarden can you give us some insight as to how camc justify how they manage to name some of their sites.
Eg. Stamford its 6 miles away!
Littlehampton book says 1 Mile to town however you walk past the trai station on the way to the seafront and that's 2 miles away.

Think most of you guys do a great job and thanks for that. (y)

So if your a normal sort who doesn't get drunk and pick an argument with your neighbors,if you put yourselves on your pitch,if you keep your darling dogs on leads and kids under control.if you don't crash into bits of the site which have been in position for years.
We still like you!
Dam….. that’s me out then…..😆

Mildly interesting, I suppose. Two things I would comment on. Firstly you don't need to have been a caravaner/motorhomer or worked in that industry, to provide leadership and management to the C&MHC. Employing individuals from all walks of life into organisations, to provide leadership and management, is common place. The reason for this is, the skills needed are transferable skills.

Secondly, the OP has mentioned cleaning the toilets. Well, I'm sorry to have to point this out but didn't you realise this was part of your job?

I've noticed that when browsing I have occasionally seen that the site is: 'Closed due to staff shortage as a result of isolation'.

In ten years of membership I have used CLs for maybe just a couple of nights a year, booking by phone to the CL, as hitherto I've only toured abroad. However, a couple of weeks ago as a last resort I thought I'd have a go at touring in U.K. so I looked at booking a couple of CAMC club sites. Their website booking facility is glacially (and I mean glacially) slow, taking up to 20 seconds or a minute to update when I'm trying to do 'What if.......' searches and sooo clunky....... dreadful. According to messages on the CAMC 'Discussions' forum it's always like that. I tried several times including very late at night and early morning but have given up as I don't seek stressful motorhoming.

Welcome!

Apart from one exception, I have always found CAMC wardens to be a helpful and friendly bunch.
Same here
I for one would welcome the introduction of a deposit system, .
I'd like the option to be able to pay the full cost when booking. CCC allow this and it means we can go off on our trip knowing there are no site fees to budget for. I'm happy to pay deposits etc - any other holiday requires them.
There will always be employees who feel those at the top don't "know the job" and in a lot of cases that is very important but with an organisation the size of CMHC the job of the top brass is to put people who do know in the correct roles.

From my perspective I'm happy to be a member and use the sites a lot. You know you'll get a nice maintained site and services which the Wardens should take great credit for.
Exactly. Mind I have had a job where a new manager was put in place and was absolutely clueless about the organisation, how it worked (and why it worked that way) and was definitely not a "people person". Within 6 months all existing members of staff had either left or transferred elsewhere within the organisation and 2 months after that he was gone under a very dark cloud.
New recruits were phoned a few days before contracts started and told they were not needed. Chaos and anger
My friend was signed up as a warden on a commercial site, he was pitched up and ready to start work - and given 2 hours to pack up and leave.
A request if I may.

Always :) After a harrowing experience (nothing to do with the site) the warden arranged a disabled pitch for us and called in several times a day to make sure we were okay. They were superb. I sent chocolates and a thank you card when we got home. I also wrote to the regional office and Head Office to let them know how wonderful the wardens had been.

Generally we use the CL network but sometimes it is nice to use a club site with all the amenities knowing exactly what to expect (both from the site and ourselves).

When our Grandson was little one of the wardens asked him if he liked being in Granma and Grandda's van ... "No" "Why not?" "I like being with Granma and Grandda in MY van." Smiles all round!!!!!!!

My main issues with the C&MHC are two fold.

The dire state of the web site.

They need to employ a proper IT manager and ensure he has a proper budget.
(The easiest way to spot how a company is doing is to look at the IT spend per member of staff)
The IT Manager then needs to employ a senior web designer and team with experience in the hotel industry, ideally someone who did the web sites for someone like Westin, or Holiday Inn or one of the other big groups.
Will that all be very expensive, yes, very expensive.

The second gripe is money on booking.

If you book you should pay money up front.
There should be zero need for wardens to deal with cash or collect site fees.
The days of the farmer who runs the CL popping in to collect £15 in cash for each camper should have gone years ago.

However all of this needs leadership from the top, and unless you have senior management with a background in the large chain of campsites, holiday cottages or hotels industry you are not going to get very far.
(The CFO may not need that sort of experience, but the CEO, MD, ITC and PR must.)

In my experience, parachuting "managers" into jobs that they have no direct experience in rarely ends up well. We had a boss at work who said "I don't need to know the process, I only need to know how to manage my staff", I think he had an Honours Degree in Arrogance !
He was one of the worst people I have ever worked under and he was useless at "managing".
