Your top two weekend in the motorhome destinations

We had a lovely weekend at a pop-up campsite in the lovely village of Fotheringhay. (There’s a CL too.) The site is on the river, so plenty on canoes were being launched. We just swam and tried SUP for the first time. Did a lovely long loop of a walk and finished off with dinner in the village pub.

St Andrews - ulterior motive to see our son at Uni there. But lovely town, great restaurants, beaches and golf for those so inclined. We don’t use a campsite.

….my home town, Gromett
I went to school there for 4 years and had my first job on the industrial estate.
I didn't go back until some people from school organised a 25th anniversary bash which I went to and fell in love with the town all over again.

This is far away for most of you but our favourite for 3-4 days is a CP for walkers in the Tatra Mts., Slowakia.

It looks down on a wildflower meadow to a forest dropping down to the valley, and beyond up the far side to a range of low mountains, with higher ones behind. There is a Chalet Restaurant with excellent food and a informal terrace for good Slowak beer in the sun. And another down about 1/2 km away. Both host very cheery crowds of walkers in the evening, mostly from Slowakia, Czech and Poland but some Germans

There is also a fresh spring for water if needed, which must be clean because all the walkers use it for their bottles. No other MH facilities. In 10 visits we have only seen one other MH but it was only a day tripper, although we see several in the skilift CP a km down the road

Just behind the trees behind the CP is a memorial cemetery to those who died on the mountains - quite a few. Next to it a mountain rescue centre and forest admin.

Plenty of walking and the odd hut for refreshments on the trails.

There is an interesting outdoor museum with many styles of old wooden houses which have been brought from locations all over Slowakia and reassembled. There is a concert venue with a grass 'auditorium' there, as there is below our meadow, but no performances when we have been there, but that is usually Spring/Autumn.

A really good place to chill out.

[Sorry long post, but that is because of my enthusiasm for the place]

I think Jim is just introducing the thread to encourage discussion. Him and Sian have probably been visited more places in their numerous vehicles, than many on here will have never even heard of.
Maybe mainly so but although Sian lived in Scotland for a while Jim has never been so my suggestion would be the lovely little Isle of Cumbrae… a bit far for them for the weekend though!

Just back from a few days at a lovely CL near Framingham, great little town and close to the Suffolk coast. Back to Black Knowle in the New Forest between Christmas and the New Year for some fantastic walking straight from the site.

Slovak Low Tatras around Jasna and Chopok are really nice once you get away from the industrial part on Silnice 18.... Have been many times when I lived and taught in Brno.

Do you mean the Muzeum slovenskej dediny? Maybe next summer....

had a good weekend in Lincoln, stopped in the lawns car park, lots of shops and the cathedral to see

Very seldom stop in UK but have in the past enjoyed Whitby,Lincoln,Chester and Cambridge...Absolute hate driving in uk...Much rather make a dash for ferry ports and head south,,No good for a weekend..May try Jasmin Camping next summer,,BUSBY.

Highlands End (West Bay) and Topsham, great walking, first one hilly and second one flat.

We’ve never been to Scotland but number one son is planning on moving to Edinburgh next year and number two son to Glasgow so it looks like we will be. I will be buying my thermals shortly and that’s just for the Summer.

We really like a site in the Cotswolds.
Generally we go abroad but had to find the delights of this country so found this site which has the most welcoming guests and beautiful lawn added to the privilege of using their Elsan point. Deer running around the bottom of the HUGE lawn helps, so does the nearby extensive cycle path and couple of pubs.

Details can be found in the signature of Quackers (at the bottom of any post he makes, you just click it)
We are going again for a long weekend at a rally over Easter this year with details here https://www.motorhomefun.co.uk/foru...ers-woodside-field-6-11-april-2023-🐥🐥.271322/

Liverpool marina and st Anne’s great for a couple of nights each

Our go to is the Forest of Dean and Wye valley only an hour for us!
Stay at Rushmere Farm on the edge of the forest some great dog walks from the campsite and 30 minute walk to Staunton and our favorite pub The White Horse!

I'm going to add another - staying at Eskdale National Trust campsite on the western side of the Lakes. We had a lovely long Easter weekend there. Of course there is fabulous walking, including our ascent of Scafell, but there are also 3 good pubs in walking distance of the camp site. The campsite itself was fantastic, well kept and with great showers and of course amazing views. Just down the road was Dalegarth station, where you can take the steam railway down to Ravenglass on the coast.

North Devon, Little Shelfin Farm, closed in the Winter.

So in the Winter months;

Brecon Beacons, Freedom Camping in a couple of quiet spots.

Or Brecon Wild Camping;

Did enough of that in the forces!!! But at least we got paid for doing it!!!

North East coast has numerous places to stay. We also like Kirby Stephen, lovely site on the edge of town, with a bar and dining available.

Not in any order,
Tutor caravan park, Slimbridge. Beside a canal for nice walks and a CAMRA pub at the entrance.
Pembrey Country Park in either the Caravan Club or council site.
Whitemead in the Forest of Dean, again walks and pubs.
Brecon CMC, nice walk along canal into town. Great pub grub just up the road.

Shrewsbury and Cheltenham. Both just an hour away and perfect for two to three days.
For Shrewsbury........try Roden Nurseries or Roden Storage (Same place)
They have a few spots with services.
Just off a main road so good access to M54 / A5

We love Fowey cl. A short walk to the village with great sea views and loads of pubs and eateries, great walking especially up the estuary to Golant village and the Fishermans arms Pub
