Winter--to Sorn or not to Sorn ?

Forgive the liberty but if you're going to stay in one place for your winter trip wouldn't you be better off with a caravan?

Tax at £165 a year, about £14 a month and having to remember to retax it of you get the opportunity to go away. I dont think its worth the hassle.

You asked for an example of production cars I gave you two whether you like it or not they are low volume road legal production cars.

The notion of starting an engine and running it up to normal operating temperature being bad is not correct it is an outdated urban myth and Legend. A better measure of a an engines run time is just that.....hours run. Cranking an engine by hand does little for engine maintenance.

If a car is stored in correct conditions eg a dry garage with airflo,w tyres inflated to a higher pressure there won't be much else needed. SORN over a winter for a vehicle that is not used does save money, it does not matter if its a month or 6 months the digital licensing service means you only have to pay for the month or months used. Take the van out a couple of time in the winter there will be months the van is not used so just sort it why give money to the government when you do not need to?

The thread started asking about SORN ing a motorhome home,,not a car,,racing vehicle etc..Advice given by most refered to parking up and not using a MOTORHOME.BUSBY.

If you read my post you will see I commented on SORN, the vehicles mentioned in response to you are road cars, as far as motorhomes are concerned there are thousands not in regular use particularly over winter. An engine is an engine they are quite happy to sit for 6 months or more and not be used. I reguarly sorn my vehicles and no issue with doing it and does save money.

CarCoon is a UK Company but there is an image on the american site that shows a storage unit big enough to stop a MoHo (SORN'd) from deteriorating https://automotive.carcoonamerica.com/systems I have a couple of standard units that I store my cars in, keeps them in tip top condition until I decide to take them out.
