Hello, I've never insured a Motorhome before, so looking to take out my first policy on a £95,000 Carthago and the cost is coming in at £1275. Is this about right or is this expensive.

I don't have any NCD for motorhomes, but have 3 other cars all with 15 years plus, I have no accidents or driving convictions. If that is the going rate, then that is fine. Please quote was from Adrian Flux.

Thank you
Mark

My broker in Chichester arranged our insurance with Victor Millwell. Happy with the price. Screenshot_20240112_173837.jpg

OP, I paid £493 with Comfort for our 2023 Adria Compact in December, slightly lower value than your MH. This is our first van, so no NCD to transfer, but Comfort mirrored what I have on my car. HTH.

I paid a quarter of that for same value Moho with LV last year. No NCD but they took into account being a named driver on wife’s car policy and 20 years company fleet driver.

This year at renewal it actually went down!

But it's not the branch that dictates, it's the underwriter, innit.
At least that what i was told by a person having worked in the field.
Well it looks like you were wrong. :moon2:

Nope not correct a Comfort policy is a net policy it does have any NCB.

They are all blaming big increases and payout across the industry. After phone calls to existing insurers wife’s car 264 up to 350 quick call back down to 271, mine 333 up to £470 quick phone back down to £339 seems the increases are an excuse and certainly worth a phone call.

Hi, give caravanguard a call, my insurance halved because it is stored in c

Hi, give caravanguard a call, they where best but mine is in storage which is a registered with CaSSOA which brings price down. I realise it's swings and roundabouts having to pay for storage but I pay approximately £1000 per annum in total for storage and insurance. Might be worth a try.
Just spoke to Caravanguard who quoted me £30 more to store it at a Cossa storage site compared with at home. They said they get more small claims from damage due to movements and parking up in storage, while on the drive the owners don't bang them about and keep watch on the them. Why the price down for you and up for me?

Seems different companies take different views on this. Certainly got a discount on mine being in secure storage

Third party is more expensive than fully comp with some insurers as it’s used by youngest to keep prices down so tends to have higher claim rate. Thats what my broker said anyway.
My broker said that 3rd party is expensive partly because a claim from a 3rd party involving their expensive car or injuries to a 3rd party can be enormous and cost them as much as with a comp policy.

Hi, doesn't make sense does it, I store mine because no room at home. If motorhome gets damaged whilst in storage then it would be the caravan or motorhome parked next to it also cctv which is fitted would surely pick it up.
I live in Cheshire so maybe postcode is a big factor as it does when insuring a car. Hope you can get a quote that your satisfied with 👍

NFU quoted me in December and it was the highest quote by 300%. The cheapest was Aviva via Comfort at a 1/3rd of NFU. Very straight forward online application followed by them phoning me, all done in few minutes.

It's the staff in the branch and their knowledge of the products they sell. Like anything people are the key so some branches may be better than others

I can understand a branch not wanting to quote for reasons best known to themselfs.

I've been shopping around for quotes on my one year old £75k MoHo after seeing my premium escalate from £400 (including "free" tracker) when the van was new in 2023 to at least £750 now when it is one year old. The quotes show a big differential between vans with and without trackers. If I move from my current insurer I lose my free tracker. Happy to do this for a lower premium but I cannot find an acceptable tracker with a low annual subscription. Any ideas welcome. Apparently my Ford Pass does not count as a tracker even though it tells me where my van is at any time !!

A lot of insurers don't like Ford's because so many get nicked.
Have you tried Comfort, they do require a tracker for £75k and above or if its a Ford of any value.

Have you tried the comparison sites. We recently sold our ford based motorhome but had a very competitive quote from compare the market last year. It wasn't as valuable as yours. It's not true that all insurers ask for a tracker on fords we were insured for 10 years and never had to get one.

Need to be careful on comparison sites often not proper Motorhome policies being offered.

That was last year the previous 8 were with the specialist motorhome insurers. Last year was underwritten by aegis a pretty well known company.
