Whose responsibilty to repair ?

We had the problem with the airbag light on with out previous MoHo which was on a Ducato 250 base.
Simpsons at Great Yarmouth diagnosed the airbag controller as faulty and as it was a few months out of Fiat warranty we paid. Simpsons took the case up with Fiat who covered most of the cost of the replacement controller. We paid the labour plus a small amount.

Richard.

Thank you, we have a diagnosis fault code B0100 which states : Airbag - Fault inside the control unit, this seems on the face of it to be the cause.

Apparently though the well known issue with the under seat wiring connections can trigger the same code.

A little more digging has revealed this : ( copied from the Out&About Live forum )

According to this official Peugeot bulletin a 950 amp C.C.A. battery should be fitted, ours has the insufficient / incorrect 680 amp C.C.A. fitted,so something else we will enquire about having done.

Note the 680 / 950 ah is obviously an error by Peugeot & should read 680 / 950 C.C.A.

Maybe worth other Boxer funsters checking too.(y)

Air bag faults can be quite common , its is usually the connections under the seat , due to the seat being moved back and forth or things getting shoved under the seat Insurers try to get out of warranties, when you claim , its all in the way you word the problem . We never took on warranty work when we had our garage as Rich had been caught out several times with customers saying its covered and then the insurance company not paying out.

Try a jump lead from the negative post on your battery to the negative bolt under the bonnet and see if anything improves if so fit new earth strap.
John.
Can you please tell me which is the "negative bolt under the bonnet" so I can try this?
Thanks

The dealer included a 1 year insurance backed warranty which is valid until 10/06/18
That's the warranty the dealer is saying to claim on then ... why not give them a ring?

Thank you, we're aware that the third party warranty doesn't cover '' airbag & systems '' so have no intention of even involving them.
Hopefully Peugeot will view our claim sympathetically due to the extremely low mileage for the vehicle's age which is just out of it's 3 year Peugeot warranty.

Thank you Minxy, as previously stated, the 3rd party ( MB&G Gold ) warranty is not valid for airbag issues.
You must have been posting that answer as I was writing my response ... :)

Any bolt that's on the chassis. Conveniently the one that has the battery earth lead connected to it.

FIAT replaced a dash for me when it was a couple of months out of warranty (although FSH). The garage charged £80 plus VAT (although the receptionist knew of the issue as well as the technician) before FIAT would do anything. They denied there was an underlying fault despite I having an issue with a previous (Pug) van and all the other stuff that is on here and all over the internet. Good Luck. If they do not cough up then go to the press.

@Ingwe when you lift the bonnet on the right hand side there is a threaded bolt which you can use or as tonyidle says anywhere ont the engine or gearbox.

John.

Another small update :

Although we have a diagnostic report @ £35.00 on these issues, before they'll proceed Peugeot are insisting on performing their own diagnostic @£95.00.

Fair enough if we qualify for a sympathetic / goodwill approach to a fix i guess.

I still think you are going to need a lot of luck with Peugeot, I had the same diagnostic report done after they wouldn't accept the first, and when the agent asked Peugeot guess what the answer was, even threw in long standing customer as I have had a number of cars from the agent albeit not the motorhome. So fingers x for you.

Thank you, t.b.h. we're not expecting any assistance from Peugeot & if we have to pay the full cost so be it.

By the way, for info to other X290 Boxer / Ducato owning funsters, a new airbag e.c.u. / controller is £218.00 + V.A.T. + fitting costs.

Peugeot part no : 163263780
Fiat part no : 1375110080

Apparently the parts are interchangeable.

wife car had peugeot dash fault got it repaired failed again 6 months later peugeot replaced it again and diagnostic computer would not communicate with ecu asked how much to repair answer was how long is a piece of string so just px'd in garage due to possible cost involved still got fair px though

I've just sent my faulty airbag ECU of to these people - £30 to repair it - at the moment.

I posted it yesterday - Just had a message to say its on its way back.
Super quick - lets hope it all works when I put back on the van.

We hope it works for you. (y)

We are tempted by this possible course of action, as the cost is very reasonable, however, although we have a fault code, the root cause of the fault could be the airbag e.c.u. & / or associated wiring.

I've visually inspected the connectors under the seats & they seem o.k., I'm well aware that wiring defects can be hard to trace & I'm also awaiting delivery of some electrical contact cleaner so i can at least try & eliminate the obvious prior to booking the Moho in with Peugeot.

I was told by two different mechanics, with two different readers, that it was the ECU, although I did check for faulty wiring under the seats and found nothing untoward.

Offending article.

Thank you, we too would be convinced by a 2nd diagnosis, the other conundrum we have is, that as previously mentioned, the diagnostic detected low battery voltage & apparently this too can illuminate the airbag light.

@Stealaway , we'd be very interested to know the outcome when you refit the e.c.u.

Thank you.

Another update : The electrical contact cleaner has arrived so I'll be applying some of that to every connector i can find, it may or may not be successful.

Further research into the various companies that reset the airbag e.c.u. indicates that this is a reflashing service, which resets the e.c.u. to it's original state, and, in cases where the e.c.u. has developed a fault, this will no doubt cure the issue.
However if the root cause of the fault lies elsewhere, simply reflashing the e.c.u. will not offer a cure as the source of the fault still needs rectifying.

We use Days motor group here in South Wales as our preferred main dealer & they have a Peugeot franchise in Haverfordwest, so in the event of the contact cleaner not curing the issue, & as a result of conversations with Peugeot customer care & Days, the Moho is booked in on the 26th for further investigation & rectification.

@MH 55 FUN Have you spoken to Harry Phillips in Bynea they are Peugeot dealers and as I understand do quite a bit of Motorhome work for Days Rental.

Yes, as they are only 10 miles from us, we tried them first, but sadly not with much success, hence a 45 mile trip to Days Haverfordwest, as our nearer Days at Garngoch don't work on Peugeot commercial vehicles.

At least we've been offered a courtesy car.

Fitted it today and all is well. I can't tell whether they have had it apart or whether it is just a remap.
Whatever they have done its cured it and much cheaper than a second hand one I found at £180 and a new one at £300+. I saved £150 on the insurance and £250 on the ECU - I'm 400 quid up this week and that's enough spending money for the holidays - happy days. :clap2::cheers::party:

That's great news ! (y)

Did the airbag warning light extinguish upon fitting the repaired e.c.u. or did it need resetting with a diagnostic tool ?

Nope ----
I refitted it to the floor - reconnected the battery and fired up the engine no problem.
No resetting and no fault code now -- working perfectly.

A quick update on this saga :

No broken connections found during my visual inspection & no improvement made by spraying underseat airbag connectors with e.c.c.

So now the Moho is with Days Peugeot @ Haverfordwest to be fixed, hopefully with a goodwill gesture from Peugeot.

We will see.

That is a ridiculous price. Doing the repair sets them up for £1,000,000++ damages if it fails to go off and you are badly injured.

Let's hope their electronic skills are better than their business sense.
