Who has taken the MH out today

Well, we have made a break for it , driven about 6 miles and currently sat on a cliff far from the edge!) with a very windy wind blowing, sun shining, will have more of a walk in a bit then treat ourselves to a cuppa. Have not encountered any hostility though apparently there has been a bit of 'bother' of some sort in St Ives where a MH drove along the front and parked, 5 occupants got out and unloaded some exercise equipment onto the beach! We

Just got back from our bike ride, we spotted at least half a doz vans out and about, Hardwick Park lakes were really busy with lots of (pale) families enjoying the sun.

It was quite amusing watching those who were out for the first time doing the social distancing thing whilst walking along the paths. Some were going for the standard 2 metre thing, others going for the head in the hedge bottom and holding breath technique :LOL:

MH SORNed but going out 2nd June for pre arranged MOT and fill with diesel and gas. Then waiting

Since Lockdown, I have been taking advantage of the sun, checking/servicing/Waxoyling plus all the modifications I had planned to do in the next 12 months. Most are finished but, as I have had no chance to take it for a long run to check, I took it out for an hour yesterday. Everything fine except the clutch pedal doesn't seem right, only working on bottom half of stroke, so a change of hydraulic oil and fingers crossed that its only some air in the system where I've been working on the brakes and nothing more serious!

Out today. 10m run to the coast & park up & see the sea, first time in 8 weeks.
nice walk along the prom, partner in her disabled buggy & enjoyed the freezing wind with a bit of sun thrown in. Lunch in the van & a little doze in the afternoon. Life is a little better.
no hassle & locals friendly.
we may go again next week. ????

Reading the replies not sure wether to tax for June but common sense says stay put awhile only taking dog a walk less than hour a day and on line food shopping seems the safest think at the moment

IF you have DOT4 BRake fluid in and it has not been FULLY changed in the last 2years, especially if laid up. Then you could have moisture in the fluid which when the brakes get hot will "boil", giving anything between a spongy pedal to complete loss of braking.

I haven't moved or started mine since December last year and don't intend to until my good lady feels safe (asthma & slightly compromised lung capacity). I did start our 'spare' Smartie for the first time since February though. Just to move it out of my way.

Got ours out of storage this morning, quite a few other people checking on their vans.

Going to give a a good wash and clean, fill the tank with cheap diesel and generally get it ready for the off.

Was supposed to be off to France in a weeks time, not going to happen though :( :(

We have kept ours taxed as I figure the gov (of whatever persuasion) will need all the revenue it can lay it’s hands on.
What savings we have have also gone to premium bonds, ns&i, as I figure that’s as good as doing the same. As interest rate (0.01%) in the banks is so low it’s worth a punt at winning a little. So far we are up £50 Which we will add to the pot.
every little helps?

Thanks Pete,
that was the same conclusion I had come too and, as I've only had this MH a couple of years and its the only fluid I haven't changed, it will be done and I'll assess the results after but experience tells me it might be either the master or slave cylinder which is, apparently, in the bell housing, that will be a pain in the a***, haho, such is life!

Think it could be a trip to Minis Bay , car park rear of the Cafe or Ramsgate Undercliffe . Walk along the beach tea and cake after, what’s not to like .

Ours was stuck on the drive at the start of lockdown as we were getting ready for a quick weekend trip - felt we shouldn't move her during lockdown. Took her back to storage on Wednesday with the rule changes - v hard not to just keep going though but I resisted... for now :)

run out to stoney cross in new forest from home in Southampton. Run the legs off the pooches and sit and have a cuppa, lovely day. Van ready for anything now hab service done by MH and caravan repairer who lives near me.also fitted new leisure battery from Tanya batteries. Still got a dirty roof though....

There were a lot of van conversions in Scarborough, only saw a couple of cochbuilts, didn't stop. but had our lunch elsewhere in an almost empty spot.

Yes mine went out today, for it's MOT. For some reason it is demanded on the GOV site that they put out telling you that it is due. I never had an extension of 6 months and to tax it I needed the MOT??????? The test stations I contacted all said it was to enable you to keep a vehicle on the road but NOT use it.
Seems a little odd but I did it anyway. And kept the same date anniversary. It also sems that insurers can use the lack of MOT test as proof the vehicle MIGHT be unroadworthy and refuse a claim for damage.
All bit peculiar but whatever, it is done now and not really a cost saving that I worry about.

MOT’s are a strange requirement in some ways. I used to drive 45,000 miles a year and whilst that is not average mileage it is starship miles compared to some so it would mean the vehicle could do 135,000 before it was required to have an MOT ! It is an ancient requirement and I do wonder if the whole system should be revised particularly for EV’s

Took ours out for a spin last week, first time since February. It felt really good even though we couldn't actually go anywhere. We've seen quite a few 'vans around in the last week. Fingers crossed we can get a trip away this year!!

Can’t....DVLA still haven’t sent me my V55 so can’t get number plates. Totally unfair ! They say they aren’t processing paper applications including V55/5 import applications. Thing is every other paper application, change of address license upgrade etc still allows you to take vehicle out. Not having number plates doesn’t . My worst nightmare is that France opens up but DVLA doesn’t ? Could have an unusable MH for months !

We are thinking of giving ours a run out. Have decided to skip the weekend and go for mid next week. Planning to do about 30 miles on a round trip to the top of a hill where there is some parking. If it is busy there we will about turn and come straight back. If it is not, we will stop, have a brew and a sandwich. If we pass a cafe or shop along the way we will stop and buy something.
We would like to go to a popular destination and support the local businesses but, at the same time, we do not want to cause offence/distress to the rightly concerned locals.
Whatever you all decide to do, stay safe and take care of yourselves.

I took my Peugeot Boxer out on Weds for a 40 m trip inc a walk (and a cycle later) up to the top of Shutlingsloe nr Macclesfield. Pretty quiet. Getting ready for a v long trip!

Saw a couple of angry locals take issue with a Motorhome parking in Torbay yesterday on Paignton green.

Good to see this thread

Have been very wary of going out for a day trip due to possible hostility. We are going about 50 miles to be with my daughter got granddaughters birthday bit that will be in a farm field all on our own. I figure that in three weeks the lockdown will have eased considerably.

Having seen this thread we might risk a day out to Northumberland where we know we can park somewhere fairly isolated - has anyone experienced any real hostility?
