Still looking moho but most private seller asking more than dealer price. And I just confused with new engines. 2.2-2.3-3.0 fiats, merc 2.1 and 2.2-2.4 transit, my old one had 2.8jtd... I don't want to suffer with pulling and don't want endless problem and not good mechanics around me. Any feedback will help. Thank you

Surely you wouldn't base buying a motorhome on an engine.
Yes,same as I always bought houses on garage and off road parking space & then could I make the house work? With building alterations if necessary.
Mines a 2008 fiat ducato 2.2....its got a chain...
And is the Ford engine

I thought in 2008, that was in the Purgeot?
2.3 Iveco engine in the Ducato? 🤔

Bros Citroen relay 2.2 Transit engined Wildax has had to be recovered from Europe twice due to dpf atomizer faults so I'd avoid this engine.

I have the new 2.2l engine with 9 speed auto in my Fiat Ducato based PVC. It is the top of the range 180 hp variant and now that it is run in with over 8k miles on the clock it performs brilliantly. Plenty of power for brisk overtakes of trucks and other slower vehicles on rural roads in Spain, and powers up the steep gradients on some of the French and Spanish motorways without losing speed. A real pleasure to drive. On motorway stints at 70-80 mph it is getting 24-25 mpg and 27-29 on slower roads. Could probably do better if I was not exploiting the performance quite so much!
Totally agree, mines just done 7k and is brilliant. Cant detect the gear changes, the steep down hill function just works great, pop it on and it smoothly and safely controls the descent. And like yours nearly upto 30mpg with a 4t van…

Yes it has adblue, but its hardly a problem, keep it topped up, add some decrystalizer and it works fine.

Also euro 6 so future proof

Am I correct thinking that if not Adblue it won’t meet any ULEZ requirements in any cities charging and the several considering it? Don’t all Euro V1 motors run with Adblue as a necessity, unless it’s petrol of course but that’d be a pretty rare thing in any sizeable Moho
Does not need adblue or even euro 6 to be compatible.
My euro5, 4.1t PHGV motorcaravan is compatable to all current ULEZ in both England and Scotland, and is only charged for London, ULEZ @£12.50/day.( not £100 as many state)

But as a PHGV, doesn't it cost you commercial rates if you stray into London £100 per day, instead of the £12.50 if registered as a Motorcaravan?
Sorry for going off thread but everyone points out the benefits of PHGV but none of the downside. 🤔
Can still be registered as Motorcaravan and also be PHGV... so £165 road tax and £12.50 to stray into Lodon

Are you sure about that? Put your reg into Tfl's website and see if they agree? 😄

We now have Fiat 2.3 180bhp engine with conformatic gears which is great but have previously had two Fiat 2.3 150bhp engines on manual gearbox which were also very good with plenty of torque never had a problem with any of them over 70,000 miles plus😊

Ours is a 2.3 130bhp Fiat engine in a 3500kg motor home it works no mess no hassle you can also get a pre-adblue version (which ours is) and is EU6

As with all cam belts just change them at x miles or x years.

Can I ask, was that before or after you reregistered as PHGV, the reason I ask is, that one of my vehicles used to be able to go in, but now it can't (well, it can but at great expense). + As it's only £12.50, why do all these people complain about how much it costs just to get to some of the London campsites? 😄

After reregistration to PHGV. I have questioned many times on here the ammount some claim it will cost.. £100.00 seems to be the common ammount
Total of £25.00 to visit as long as you stay put when you get there!!... in and out!! 👍👍

I would have to buy second hand to get the engine I wanted.

That and it would probably be Euro V

Mercedes 3 litre V6

I’ve had two of the Euro IV versions. Brilliant engine but for the glow plug issues
I have that engine in a 5.4T mh - it's brilliant. What are the glow plug issues?

If they fail , they are easily broken , especially by so called Mercedes dealers.

Difficult to access and this is what Mercedes , Enza at the time now Star Trafford park

Love it when people overinflate the cost....Fiat Professional charged as Follows:

Replace Cam Belt: £342.00
Fit and Auxiliary Drive Belts
MOT Test £54.85

FI0005801735854 Trans Belt £25.04
FI00058021202136 Trans Belt £34.82
FII000071736 716 Camshaft Drive Set £191.36

Total £635.52
VAT £116.13
Total £751.65

Somewhat less than the thousand+ you stated (without the MOT its £696)

If it was just the Cam Belt and Labour £533

I am sure there are non dealer garages that will do the Cam belt change for this

No its not I have a Fiat 2.2 it's a belt.
Yep,

Was once upon a time, but in the latest version, since about 2022 it certainly a belt, replace every five years…or 60k miles (i think, but not going to do that mileage).

Is it a 2008 model..
No probably MY24, the new Fiat 2.2 is a belt, this engine replaced the 2.3 which was also a belt, in either 21 or 21.

You have to go back quite a way for a 2.2 with a timing chain. And then other reliability problems will raise their heads? And certainly not euro 6, probably euro 4…

Mines a 2008...100 multijet..in france its classed as a french crit air 3,orange sticker, and in germany a 4,green sticker...the belgium government sent me a letter, when i applied for a sticker, and they said its too polluting for one...unless I pay €35 per day, and then its OK, nothing wrong with it...
They can get lost, I'm of the opinion that if they don't want me to spend my money, then I won't go to those areas...
