Where are the UK vans?

Really? Ive seen loads so maybe they are up here in scotland. Lots of French and a few germans. Also all the park4night spots around here its all french, Belgian and dutch reviews being left
Ok - I must be leading a sheltered life! Just my impression gathered by frequently travelling up and down the dreaded A9 and around etc. Plenty of our UK compatriots to compensate though!!

Edit to say - How's your Mum doing now Northernraider?

New aire on Loire and three other English vans here.

Turning this on its head a tad (if I may), been out and about here in the UK for a while and the absence of foreign vans here this year is quite noticeable in turn. The odd one or two but hardly any??
Lots of Dutch 'vans in the North East and Scottish Borders earlier in the summer. I assume they were coming over on the Ijmuiden - Newcastle ferry.

I hate my brit van too. I go out and kick it at least twice a day :giggle: I'll give it one more for you today :giggle:(y)

I'm Brit, owning German van, but living in my Spanish home....who do I kick first...if any...🤔🇪🇦👍

Its all about the cost of travelling etc
On top of the cost of living

The UK economy is heading well its in tough times and the lack of Brits abroud is the evidance

Its only just started too

We are over in France and usually we’d see plenty of UK vans and cars and hear lots of English speaking folks. If we see even one UK registration a day, it’s a surprise on this trip.

We haven’t visited France since 2018 and it’s great to be back but just wondering if there is a distinct change for holidaymakers from home heading over the channel now? Maybe it’s economic and the cost of fuel or the Channel crossing itself? There are certainly plenty of motorhomes here from Germany and Netherlands but mostly they are French.
Not really a problem and certainly one I can’t affect but just wondering…!

Just got back from Spain and France trip, our last site was up in the hills near San Sebastian. on our row there were six brit vans at one time, but down in Perpignan and Barcelona ver few.

Why do people like to say they want to avoid Brits when away but spend most of the day communicating with them on a forum? People from wherever they come from tend to be good, interesting people. You don’t have to communicate with them but to go out of your way to avoid them seems a little elitist to me. 😉

We are in Slovenia and haven’t seen a UK van for weeks … diesel is ‘just’ €1.69 pl here .
Loads of Germans and Dutch vans though ,far more than normal I would say.

Over the course of 12 days we drove / stayed over in Belgium, Germany, Slovenia and only saw one UK van. Been in Croatia for the past month and not seen any UK van's or cars.
Heading for Croatia from Slovenia shortly , can I ask where you’ve been whist there ? Am hearing site costs are mad nowadays!

In Black Forest. Have been in Austria, (east) Germany, Czech and Poland.
Apart from stag parties in krakow and Prague have only seen a few brits

Mainly because when i visit a foreign country i want to visit that country. I don't really want it filled with british accents whining at their kids or that its too hot etc ...or like my experience in greece where one English guy spotting my scottish flag decided to start a conversation about nicola sturgeon 🤷‍♂️

Nothing elitist about it but that's why benidorm is my idea of hell. I'd rather meet other nationalities. Otherwise id just go to Scarborough

If like us we like winter sun in Spain. Like lots of our friends the 90 day thing is a problem. We would go perhaps a couple of times but now things have changed. Over the years we have stayed for 5 months through the winter. I don’t want to stay that long any more a month in a month out . It’s now far to expensive to do it this way . We bought a caravan on a site we love in Spain doing all the sums works out around the same for the year . Just got back 93 pound return flights for both of us. We live only 20 minutes from Bristol Airport so all good we have been motorhoming for 38 years still have our motorhome would never get rid of it and will still do boats but not as much. Have just done Disney in the van and only a few brits there in campers. It was always full with Uk plates. The times they are a changing

Well one thing for sure you can not say you would hear my British accent because I don't have one. You would not understand a word :giggle: I was on holiday once in Gran Canaria and there were 4 guys in the apartment below. One of them was Scottish he said he loved my accent (y) He had the loveliest Scottish accent I have ever heard. We had the best laughs ever. He was always teasing me by mimicking me. We stayed in touch for a while and continued to meet when we got back home, then he fell in love and we lost touch.

Hi WP,

Yes, some sites are ridiculous priced tbh, especially those with a little bit of space between pitches.

We have seen many sites where vans are unable to extend their sunshade / awnings as they are so close to the next van. Being such a large van, almost 14m long including trailer, we had to book to get a pitch big enough.

We stayed at Camp Polidor in Funtana which was approx £40 per night. Then on to Baska beach. We opted for a premium pitch right next to the sea. It was an eye-watering £68 per night, but was lovely. We did try to get on to Stara Baska as it was cheaper, but they could not accommodate us! Then on to Camp Paklenica, which is £40. Then Camp Slapovi, £14, Camping Strobec Split £43,
Camp Pod Masnolim, Dubrovnik, £30.

We knew, when booking it would be an expensive trip, and so it is proving. However, during our travels, we have seen plenty of signs along the roadside, displaying prices from €15 per night. As to whether they are any good, can take your size of van, give you a pitch big enough to enjoy the outside of an evening, I am not sure.

Our bookings will take us up to end Aug. We don't have any site booked, as yet, for Sept or Oct, but will head for Bosnia and then up through Central Croatia.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you need any other info.

Been in France many years now, half a day and in Spain, snowbird down to the algarve for a bit in the winter, how can you ask for more.

We’ve been on the road since the beginning of April. France, Spain, Switzerland, Austria, Germany, now France again. In 4 months I’d estimate we’ve seen about 30 U.K. vans, most in Southern Spain. We’ve gone 3 weeks without seeing another British vehicle. The ones you see make a point of coming over and talking as it’s such a rarity. Spoke to a couple who were travelling back from Greece- we were the first U.K. van they’d seen, this was in southern Germany. Interestingly though we aren’t seeing many nationalities travelling far. Hardly any of the Germans you usually see in Spain, a handful of Spanish in southern Germany, a few Dutch all over. That makes me think it’s probably related to cost of fuel and no one is going far.

Yeah with the discount at the pump in France it's about £1.50 to £1.60 at the minute 👍
For Diesel? Where’s that? Best part of €2 everywhere I’ve been- right down the East in April now back up the west. Spain was as low as €1.60 a litre but France seems roughly same as U.K. and Germany was as high as €2.40.

Reading many times on here over the years about Brits touring and not really wanting to meet up with other Brits, etc, I was wondering.......Do the Belgiun, Dutch & Germans feel the same way, in trying to avoid each other?
If they do it aint working that well by the sound of it, I know The Swiss look down on most, but you almost expect that.
Let me know please.

I find that on Spanish, Portuguese sites the nationalities tend to congregate together, particularly the snowbirds in the winter season.
