For the uninitiated FLT (Free-Loading Tosser) is an impolite term used by those who normally pay for campsites for anyone who parks where payment is not required, usually on the assumption that they are seeking out free parking because they are tightwads.

We are in Italy and in the last week we have been on two municipal parkings where not only is the parking free but the Municipality provides MH service facilities of water, dumping and EHU - ALL FREE.!

The current one was created in about 2020 by Cortona Municipality. It has space for 20 MHs and has 20 EHU points, with modern excellent service point. It is in a tranquil spot on a dead-end road and adjacent to two burial mounds dating back to 300 BC.

My question is if any MHomer uses these such places that do not charge should they be described by the term FLT?

I would even go so far as to ask Jim to rule on whether the term is in breach of his rules.

Well I think a lot of us on here would use those facilities even if like us we use campsites as well but I certainly would not call anyone an FLT we take what is available free or not😊🤔👍

What's the point of this post.

There are thousands of free aires

I agree.

The point of the post is to try to shut down the use of the term FLT by those who use it.

I should have added that our spend of average €70 pd over what will be a 13 week trip hardly qualifies for that term, just because we do not often pay for parking.

I’d just accept being a ‘Lanciatore a caricamento libero’ and have done with it!

As far as I know there’s only one person who can police this forum and I don’t believe it’s you Geoff. It’s a harmless abbreviation, lighten up and don’t forget it’s MotorhomeFun. I doubt the people who are called FLTs mind one little bit.

I can be guilty of taking myself far too seriously at times. It’s one of my few faults.

Freeloading FL is what many people do. The free loading tossers are those that ruin it for everyone

There is a link in your post, but see here for what an FLT is.

With our MoHo friends we regularly have a bit banter about “FLTing”. It is not seen as offensive, merely a term we understand as meaning we had free stop-over. Somehow, “FLing” does not sound right!

I need to clarify I am far more of a TFG than a FLT according to the definition

Must admit I think the T has lost its harsh meaning from the original 2010 meaning for a lot of us having read Jim’s full link. Maybe that wasn’t the intention of course.

I fear its a pointless excercise and will never stop the term being used.

I don't care if someone calls me an flt
There's no glory In paying for ought you don't have to 😁

In fact I'm more offended when people call other people who don't deserve the honour of flt an flt

Like that money bags Lenny HB who spends more than Prince Charles ( sorry King Charles now ) another FLT lol

There's a good wee saying

On the nights that I’m parked up I somewhere out of the way I’m an FL other nights I may be on a campsite as long as it’s under €20 so therefor I’m not a FL…..

As for the T…. I have a Brazilian…..😎

Of course, if you read that old thread, plenty were happy to adopt the term tosser. '\ I'm just pointing in its original context, an FLT was someone who was ruining our pastime, and were directly responsible for all the height barriers and no overnighting signs we see today.

If people want to call themselves tossers in some sort of homage to those selfish sods, or just in jest, they can and will,

Why shut it down, we've explained the original meaning. But Funsters being Funsters like the term and apply it to themselves and others, normally as a term of endearment and without malice. We have numerous people here who don't pay for sites, but they are responsible campers and while they might call themselves FLTs they aren't the tossers Weejocky originally complained about

But of course Geoff nicholsong you are spending a fortune on food and drink in the local establishments so you don't even qualify as a FL never mind the T bit.

This is a real FLT , causing real problems in a lovely wee town that's quite popular with a few fuultimers that don't draw unnecessary attention to themselves.
This particular van has a barbecue and table and chairs sat outside under the awning , and been there 8 months now according to a few locals. Its resulted in a few other vans being vandalised by locals as they vent their frustrations .

Aye and a shame too as its a lovely wee place , there's usually about half a dozen fulltimers there and a few visitors in motorhomes and campers. Lovely old town , stunning castle and nice walks. Friendly locals too if you don't take the piss.

Thing is, if these people had 4 or 5 places and visited them on rotation, people wouldn't get so wound up and report them. But they are just solid or selfish and probably both

Yeah I'm not sure the camper is roadworthy. The morning after I took that photo they had half the rear end dismantled.. there was a wee van there with 2 guys and the rear wheels ,leaf springs and axle were on the ground and they had a generator running doing something to it.

3 years 30,000 miles UK and Europe.. Campsites and off Grid.
I just don't understand why people spend 10's of thousands on a motorhome and then are not willing to spend 50 quid on a campsite. ;)
