What three words

I still use the stars.... if they were good enough for the three wise men then they are good enough for me :ROFLMAO:
I’ve used the stars as well! I’m an RYA/DoT Yactmaster (offshore) but I’ll tell you what, W3W is an awful lot easier! 👍😁

and suspect you can use a sextant, human kind has done well with longitude and latitude for well over 2,000 years I bet W3W doesn't last that long (mind you neither will I) ;)

I thought you were leaving this discussion...?
For 2000 years the human race hasn't had the technology that puts navigation in the palm of their hand, let alone the satellites that enables the GPS system.
Longitude & latitude hasn't gone away - it's just been made more convenient and user friendly.
What's not to like?

We don’t realise now how hard navigation is without GPS.

The Kuwait people stole all the street signs when the Iraqis invaded, they didn’t have a clue where they were unlike the locals who did, as they obviously knew the area. The coalition of course had the new GPS system to use.

Things move on - some people however, don't
It is more about choice rather than moving on, and if you choose W3W no one is going to stop you all I have ever said is that there are other ways of determining a location GPS is one and can be more accurate, its not my fault if people cant remember numbers some can some cant.

I suspect people who can use a map and sextant are grateful for that when systems fail on board.......Just saying

Didn't we do that in WW2?...

But we build on previous knowledge, and enhance it...

...otherwise we'd all still be wearing basic spun woolen clothing

I guess our Coolcats reads his handwritten manuscripts by candlelight, has no electricity, nor heating in his wattle & daub cruck house...

I think I made that point in my first post on this subject. That for me is one of the greatest benefits of W3W.

Be careful not to imply criticism of people with different abilities and skill sets to you!

Anyway, bored now, so 'I'm out!' And that means I'm out of this discussion now.........Won''t be coming back :giggle:

Don't knock those spun woollen clothing there is a whole industry reliant on it and don't forget the Pesky Alpaca's as well they produce high quality woollen scarves and knitwear and wattle and daub houses can be quite nice (and modern)

As I say you choose the technologies you wish to use as will the emergency services as they are not a one trick pony not everyone chooses to drive but many do. Even if many do choose W3W I choose not to it does not make me anymore of a Luddite than someone who chooses not to use a car. I will still get to my destination easily and quickly ! as you will using W3W

My french words are "deboucher/parton/discutant".

Altogether now, say out loud with me, "Dee Boo Shay / Par tonne / dis ku ton"

What could possibly go wrong? 🤣😂
Del Boy springs to mind 🙄

Oh look, gas cooker, running water, electric lighting, television, digital music, central heating, wc toilet... all mod cons of the 17th century... everything that Copernicus would instantly recognise  .
I suspect Copernicus would be happy to see how longitude and latitude has stood the test of time. Next time your at 35,000 feet in an aircraft you might just reflect and be greatfull for such a development that has enabled your flight.

So getting back to W3W on your mobile do enjoy using it

Just for interest sake, radio amateurs in the UK still use the national grid system :-)
I am in TL 85682 81813
BUT !!!
Love W3W :-)

That was my point really Jim, it's not an ideal tool in a foreign country for many people. For some it might be but I'm just pointing out it does have limitations.
Beg to differ on that. It’s excellent for delivery drivers and as for use abroad you tubers John and Mandy use this to give excellent location updates and it works perfectly in Europe I use it for my job. No messing with postcodes right to the house.

You should change your avatar pal, this would fit nicely

Given that I have not been rude or abusive to anyone and acknowledged that if you are happy to use W3W then fine but it’s not for every one and if you choose not to use it ians fir many people still easy to find a location without that app.

I take it that’s your image you posted as it looks very much like a self portrait and wish you well.

Your posts may not be abusive but they do challenge other posters. A lot. For someone who promised not to make anymore posts several days ago, here we still are.
Your posts will get others‘ backs up because they are assuming that everyone else has lesser intelligence than you and you deem your method to be superior.
Again I suggest that it is maybe time to start your own thread about gps coordinates so that you can argue with yourself?

Maybe I should pay for a round of beers and provide the co-ordinates so they can be found ( gps would be good for that as it get you to the exact space the pint or g&t is on sometimes I can’t help myself Janine so only have myself to blame. 👍

Location systems come and go.
I was an early adopter of W3W (and I had a GPS unit before they were commercially available)

The French Navy only adopted Longitude and Latitude in 1905 if memory serves me correctly.
They had a system where Paris and not Greenwich was the prime datum.

I have 3 maps on my wall, drawn by the Jesuits in the 1700's which are based on Faro in Portugal as the prime datum (which arguably is more logical than Greenwich)

I live 5 seconds east of the line, which means I'm always early for appointments!

It’s not about winning or losing it is about choices a point which appears to be lost

Not quite how you put it originally.

Never had the need to use it, I’m sure some may find it useful but map and compass doesn’t need batteries or a computer. It’s an old skill but one that everyone should learn.

as long as my Garmin finds the position of the pin for me and I can get the ball there on par I am a happy bunny!

Doesn’t matter it’s a few lines of text and never had the need to use it and doubt I ever will. It’s about choice

before gps and something I still occasionally do if I have a vehicle without a say nav i use pace notes stuck to the dash. It’s a technique that works really well. And for those who have done club rallying wil know just how effective they are.

I think that we have all now clearly got the message, over and over again, that it is not your preferred method.

I use a mangle, it really makes my clothes dry quicker after washing them and I don't need any of that newfangled electricity

Why am I telling you that when it has eff alll to do with what 3 words?

Just following your lead pal.

There are three words I'd like to use at you, but the ringleader has me on my very last warning, so I'd better not spell out what I guess most in this thread are thinking. **u ******g ***b
