What standard motorhome kit have you never used?

  • The ladder for the drop down bed
  • the safety straps on the drop down bed (not sure if these are standard but were in the van when we bought it)
  • the dinette bed
  • we removed the tv aerial and bracket
  • jack and spare wheel!
  • towbar

Me: The built-in external shower.

Also, the cushions and complicated bits and pieces for the 3rd bed (even the salesman couldn't assemble that). Useless gubbins - it takes up space at home instead.
Snap.

Drop down bed, apart from for storage
Shower - may change once we get somewhere warm
Grill
TV bracket etc - don't want a TV

I think I would find an external shower useful and am considering retrofitting one.

What I've never used is the external gas point for a BBQ. I've also removed the carpet from the kitchen area, just have it in the bathroom, bedroom and lounge.
I took the kitchen carpets and the bathroom carpets out cannot understand carpets in bathrooms

You might do when you get up in the morning and put your bare feet on the floor.
No. Got a mat/runner along main walkway. Much easier to shake out, keep clean, put in washing machine. Far far better and more practical than a fitted cream carpet.

I took out the carpets and the 2 tables supplied. Put in loose mats and a folding table we can use outside. Have never used the jack and have used the shower only a handful of times. Have never employed the airbag although the light shows persistently on the dashboard (not a problem). Have never used levellers.

Net curtains, removed before I drove off the forecourt in my current and previous motorhomes.

Other than the emergency stuff, which I hope never to use but keep on board in anycase.

The carpets - Put in the loft on day one, still in their protective plastic.
The 3rd jigsaw bed.
The extra cushions to make the two single beds into a double, plus the associated ladder.
The Hymer supplied extra cushions in bright yellow (which apparently cost £100 each!)
The bin in the draw (yet to find a use for it)
The Grill

External shower we use all the time for washing the dog walking boots! Also handy for washing up after a BBQ. We wouldn't be without one!

We part exchanged our Elddis Firestorm for an older Hymer B534 in November 2019. So far we haven't used her wheels......... This is due to Lockdown and a slow decline in my lovely Mum's health. Having lost her a few weeks ago at the age of 104 we're still getting used to not being tied to home. Now, thanks to DVLA losing my renewed licence in the post, we still can't get on a France-bound ferry.

never slept in an overcab bed yet, and the toy jack supplied by fiat is away in the garage, utter rubbish and dangerous to try and use
The jack actually works ,unlike the wheel brace which is made of galvanized chocolate

Not used the microwave
Tv point

Not seen one twist in use yet then? Yes they work on a panel van, in an emergency. Not what I call safe

EHU, microwave, hot plate on cooker, air conditioner, extractor fan, shaver plug, radio, internal rear view mirror.

Corner steadies.

Glad I'm not the only one who binned the flimsy horizontally hung net curtains with weighted bottom. Not fit for purpose in a mobile vehicle, imo. The product is clearly designed for home use only (as per the manufacturers website).

At least the vertically hung net curtains in my previous Hymer were unabtrusive and functional, though rarely used.

Removed the carpet in the cab. Obstructed the opening of the underseat lockers and access to the vehicle battery box. More importantly, I can now climb aboard with muddy shoes, if necessary.

I just stick the shower head through the bathroom window..but it only works if someone remains inside operating it.
