What reaaaally bugs you about your motorhome?

We have a Ford so don't have any of those problems. Lights & wipers are auto, cruise control is on the steering wheel, fogs are a fingertip away. Nice heated windscreen too. All standard spec.

The only real gripe is the 70 litre fuel tank. Personally I think they should all be 100 litres.
I remember hiring a Trannie van like that, told it to change radio station and the windscreen wipers came on.

That the previous owner didn't polish it. It's a 2009 that I just picked up so iv'e got 12 years of sun bleached white paint to mop. I'll have arms like popeye in a couple of weeks.

I tried that with mine then gave up and got Tourershine to do it for me (yesterday).

Bruises from a stupidly oversized table. It’s coming out and being replaced with something smaller or stowaways so the bruiser dinette becomes a lounge ….
We replaced ours - used stiff card to try different sizes/shapes. Sent the agreed dimensions to a company that laminated it to a sample we previously decided on as an off cut rather than have to buy a whole sheet. Under £50 and looks great.

Keep umm it and arrrring so other half doesn’t know it but upon his gallant return from barracks… table out…. Store in the garage. Im
Going to use couple of stowe sways to get feel of how we use the space couple weeks to help understand what size we need then go for bespoke table made. Your advice is cracking thank you

2001 Peugeot Boxer, dip switch works wrong way round, same with wiper control

My gripe is that the gas locker is inside the garage requiring me to open up and move things around so I can get to the gas locker, I would have liked an external dedicated gas locker door.
If it's just to turn the cylinders on/off why not put a 'hatch' in the locker door like the below which I put in the side our our gas locker when we had a Campscout PVC.

Nothing, but then it is a Carthago. 😊
I can't quite agree with that I'm afraid
  • The table is a nuisance - I've changed the top for a smaller one but the swivel/slide mechanism means I can't make it any smaller so it's a bit of a pain (literally!) at times.
  • The side facing bit of the lounge seating which has no support under the front of the base so squishes downwards (something I'm going to sort out).
  • Also it's a bit 'tight' to sit up in the rear bed to read so I have to tuck myself in towards the corner where it's flat under the shelf rather than the angled base of the lockers (it looks good with the angles but I'd rather have the extra head room).
  • The coat hooks which don't have enough of a 'hook' on them so if you brush by something it is likely to drop of.
  • The bin in the bottom right kitchen drawer that wasted a lot of space which I've now removed along with it's 'housing'.
  • The dinette lights which can't be turned on independently of the main overhead lighting so its like Blackpool illuminations (I know other Carthagos don't have this issue).
  • The handbrake is way too low too, but that's an issue with most MHs.
Despite the above we still love it and can't think of anything else we'd rather have.

I wish we could turn the gas on/off from the inside of the van. And I wish we could top up the fresh water also from the inside of the van.

BUT why do the toilet cassette doors all look the same? Butt ugly and proud of the bodywork, why couldn't they make it more like other external lockers, flush and discrete? Very odd.

We got as far as our first overnight. Removed table & 'leg' and asked tugger friends who were leaving the following day to take it home for us. I say 'leg' but it was a small storage unit for wine bottles & had a lit-up converters logo, a 13A socket, and a USB socket. :ROFLMAO:

Only a minor bug bear but the size of water tanks Autosleeper fit. For the size of the motorhome 60/55 ltrs seems a bit silly. Our PVC had the same size tanks.
Looked at a Caetano Coach Conversion,...Massive empty boot, but the guy had put a 20Ltr tank under one of the internal seats !

Lack of adjustment up or down on the drivers seat. Set so high I can't use the sun visor as it blocks out half the windscreen and needing very long arms to use the handbrake. I'm 5'10 . GLW is 5'2 and can't reach to push the clutch down fully without perching on the end of the seat to change gear

Considering all the problems we all have with just about everything mechanical and electrical these days, and having owned boats that are similar to a MH but floating in salt water. The MH is by far the easier option. No Marina costs, no anti-fouling, and all the rest.

I miss the wind in the sails but I love my MH :inlove:

So far!

Our last van had a heated waste water tank. All well and good, but someone - in their infinite wisdom - put the switch at foot level under the table.

Firstly, we kicked it on without realising it, but we also couldn't tell because we couldn't bl∞dy see it! Clever.

What annoys you about your van? :giggle:
The 'droning' noise from the passenger side.

Before long we may be needing sails to power our vans! 🤣

Nothing much really, all motorhomes need some help along the way to improve some areas and they’re all a compromise, the perfect faultless design appears to be non existent.
However, the noise that the buzzer makes if I‘ve left the step out when starting up really really is irritating.

We rather like that as it is a hangover from the past when people were nice to each other. And MoHos were few and far between.
But now there is 1/4 million of them in the UK it will give you RSI
