What have you fixed on your motorhome this week?

Pictures attached guys showing the seal run in place. Works really well too! Being honest...when the door is shut the seal rolls over and can prevent the door shutting! Answer.....Nivea or My missus Emu face cream!!
Trust me ...it does the job both for her wonderful face bless her :* and the important bit....the seal! :dance2:

Thanks Kev, spot on
I will do that to mine when I get back home after this trip :thanks3:

Baza...Don't forget the bits under the hinges ? It pours in there honestly! Just lay your hands on a small piece of rubber strip as mentioned earlier around 3 x 16 mm by the length of the hinge in total.

Failed my MOT. Need welding n the chassis. I feel relieved that it was not on emissions as poor old Nellie is an 03 plate. I do put a lot of effort into maintenance & quite enjoy learning from the founders forum. It really is difficult to find places that are both willing and equipped to work on motorhome though. Fingers crossed I can find somewhere in the 10 day leeway I have. Anyone with any knowledge or recommendations I would be grateful. I use the local water board for servicing & MOT, they are great & so kind to me, but do not do welding.
I live near jct 7 M 25.Redhill Reigate Caterham area.

That should have read funsters forum. Oh the predictive text.

WELL not using THAT garage again

Last month we took Maxine for Habitation service at one place and chassis service and MOT at the garage next door here in Chesterfield

The MOT last year said brake pipes needed seeing to (Advisory)- so he cleaned and greased them - guess what they're on with the comment the grease stopped a clear examination -
BUT
the idle revs were "Hunting" - - the garage claimed hey have changed fuel filters and oil (what I expected anyway as part of service this time) but he had no idea as to the cause but said a good run might help

So last night chatting to the neighbours son who does a little car whispering said ""Is it the EGR valvre""
so this afternoon after I got out of bed (was ill last night again) popped the Bonnet and found the EGR Valve
then followed all the pipes AND found the vacuum pipe was not connected and wasn't long enough to connect (????) plus was split at both ends though one end looked like it had been cut recently (????)

So a quick trip to the local car parts shop got me a metre of hose (actually 5mm bore fuel hose) so fitted and cut to length bonnet closed.

Got in the cab turned the key and VROOOOMMMMM then moreover a sweet running tick over

AND THE MECHANIC DIDN'T KNOW WHAT WAS WRONG - - - MY A*********

Last September I had my screen replaced by Autoglass. Whilst removing the weird external A post trims they cracked the OS one - not really the fitters fault it was attached by rather excessive use of PU adhesive. So a new one was ordered and last week it arrived and was installed. Although it was a genuine OEM spare it wasn't a very close fit so after I'd been consulted it was attached with a slight gap at the top (where it can't be seen from ground level). Throughout our trip to Peterborough it behaved like an organ pipe (or steam whistle) at anything over 60mph. So I bought some silicon sealant at the Show but no-one was selling a mastic gun. Yesterday Wilko at Newark came up trumps .............. so today that was what I fixed on my van :).

Michelin Wiper Blades.
Not fitted yet but just bought three Michelin wiper blades from Aldi.
Marked up as £4.99 each, which I thought was good, got to the till, £1.99 each.
So, £5.97 for for new set of three wipers. Now I’m thinking what’s wrong with them.
Wonder what they would be through Lowdhams.

Now that surprises me it's a long way from Cornwall to come for a chassis service

We were staying at the Staverly CMC site and had trouble starting, turn the key and nuffink.

My B I L lives at Unstone he recommended them.

The trouble was traced to a wire that ran through the steering column, it was earthing, they ran a new wire and we never had anymore trouble.

Well as I live 1.4 miles away will check them out not sure I can get inside their workshop for them to do the underside though

On my last trip out over Easter I became aware my reversing light was on constantly.
( 2003 2.8 JTD )
I presumed it must be a faulty switch and recalled seeing it`s location on the top of the gearbox when I changed the gearbox oil last year.
So I ordered a new switch from ebay.
My next problem was getting the faulty switch out, it`s accessed by removing the air filter, housing container and air ducts.
It`s location is very tight, it can be felt with finger tips but thats all. I realised I`d need a box spanner to remove it, so that was my next ebay purchase.
After getting it out it was clear the new switch was the wrong one, too short !
Back to ebay.
Correct switch arrived, now to refit. This proved quite difficult due to severely limited access, I couldn`t hold it in my fingers and get it started in the thread and putting it in the box spanner didn`t work either as I couldn`t hold it at the right angle.
In the end I softened a short piece of hose in hot water and pushed to into the new switch and this enabled me to get it started and the box spanner did the rest and electrics reconnected, phew, what a relief.
A test demonstrated it worked correctly so quite proud of my efforts.

Photo of old switch and first new one that was too short.

Okay, stupid question. How did you get the hose out? Otherwise brilliant tip!

Finally got around to finishing winterising the fresh and grey tanks.

Fitted the heat pads, Chinese temperature controllers and wiring a few weeks ago but have now insulated the tanks with double layer foil bubble wrap and the grey waste drain off pipe with Armaflex pipe insulation.

It's actually an old mechanic's trick for replacing spark plugs in awkward areas . I've been using it on my small van and mother mini for years , to prevent cross threading . The beauty of it , is if the plug does cross thread (which on my van is actually quite easily done , as their buried) the hose turn's instead of the plug , so saving the thread in the head .
You can buy a proper tool for doing the job , but i just use a tight fitting rubber hose . Though i've never heat the hose , it should just yank off .

Hi Richard, @RichardB

These are the heat pads I used. Nice low wattage and I'm using 2 per tank plus a self regulating trace heat cable along the grey waste dump pipe to stop that from freezing.

The pads and trace heat cable are controlled with these Chinese units. Looks like I'll have to wait until the weather takes a turn for the worse later in the years to setup the controllers, but for now they are set to apply heat to the tanks when the tanks get down to 2.5 degrees C and turn off at 3.5 degrees C.
The controllers came via Amazon, so if your using a Ad blocker you will need to turn it off to see what I have posted.

when we got our new Roller Team Pegaso I wrongly assumed that like the other 6m motorhomes we have had that the 90 litre tank would be standard, however if I had looked better at the spec I would have seen that it only has a 60 litre tank which cuts down the range by a fair bit.
I came across this link which is in Italian ( open it in Chrome for a translation) which alludes to the tank sizes for the 60 and 90 litre tanks being the same.
So this weekend I decided to carry out the mod and see, I removed the level reduction pipe and refitted the assembly, popped up to my local garage and as I had already previously filled it to the maximum 60 litres previously pumped it a further 10 litres easily, drove it up the road everything was working fine no leaks so pulled into the garage and put in a further 20 litres which went in easy, so the tank sizes are the same, but here is where it goes a little bit sticky, the fuel gauge was now reading empty and the yellow light was flashing.
went back home and removed the fuel pump sender assembly to see what was occurring, and found that with the fuel level higher the sender was going past the track so no reading, the float assembly rod was not long enough to bend, so I used a cable tie in one of the odd shaped square holes to manufacture a stop and stop the sender from going off the track, so now I can fill to 90 litres with sufficient expansion room above the fuel, but the gauge will not start to drop until the first 30 litres has been used, and I suspect the range displayed will also only be for 60 litres.

Bought air con refill kit from Amazon cheaper than eBay and halfords.
Easy to do!

Further to a thread about the cost of a windscreen washer pump from a dealer (£68 plus VAT!!), I bought an OEM part from Ebay for £11 odds instead; from a dealer in Germany. It arrived in 4 days and is a straight swap out. I've just done it and it took 4 minutes start to finish and works perfectly. Good old Ebay.
