What do you clean your MoHo roof with?

Ours has been in storage outside for months and I took it home last week prior to its MOT (which it passed😁). I washed it down with car wash then used a caravan cleaner to remove the countless black spots, a combination of bird droppings and tar. They were stubborn and smeared before disappearing. I could not remove the black growths on the roof light seals.

I was going to use a bird poo / tar remover to clean the roof but worried that it may be too strong and damage the roof surface.

I bought an extendable ladder and was able to reach across the roof as I am not sure if it will take my weight.

one thing I noticed was that, whilst I used a towel to prevent the ladder damaging the roof, there are a number of scrapes that where clearly made by ladders leant against the curve of the roof😡.
Get your self the large insulation pipe cover for large bore pipes. Cut a section off and put it over the ladder rungs or the side sections at the top. Stops scratches .

Mine cost a lot less than that but it wasn’t a full valet. He did a really good job on the roof without getting on it so well happy. If I could do it myself, then I would
I need two hands to cling onto the ladder otherwise I would do it myself - plus in the 3 hours he took to do it I was able to carry on working so I can spend more time out in the van at the weekends rather then washing the bits I can do

Nice Pilote! 👍

When we were away recently I was looking at the front of the MoHo and noticed one side of the roof was clean(ish) and the other was a sort of greenish-brown
I had forgotten to do both sides…..
I did say that you were getting old……… 😉

Dont park under a eucalyptus tree. We did a couple of weeks ago.
They drop millions of barnacle type things that stick to the roof. They soften when wet but leave a brown sticky goo on the roof. Tried shampoo and tfr no good. Might try acetone next. They are stuck in the skylight blinds as well a nightmare.

Last week I used flash spray. The wife wasn’t happy I’d used it all.

For really Lichen infested roofs like mine after I had tried scrubbing someone suggested Wet and Forget, I have now got some and awaiting a window in the weather to allow me to use it.

I use a good 'Patio Cleaner' with a long handled brush ,scrub then hose off before washing the body etc.Can recomend the " Henchman " platform step ladder for safety and ease of working .

What model is the Henchman step ladder?

I would have thought that patio cleaner was a bit too acidic for cleaning the van, i would certainly give it a good rinse off after.

The caravan valeter
Quote for my van was £240 from the supplying dealer to clean the roof! Did one third myself then lost my nerve) but not sure the Moho will take my weight (84 kg)???

Last one cost me £70. Paying a little more this Friday as he is going to Polish as well

A good dollop of Elbow Grease takes some beating. 🏋️‍♂️
I'm too scared/sensible to use a ladder for my roof. I'm thinking of asking the lovely dealer I bought my van from to clean my roof for a fee. A lot cheaper than the horrors I could face. I also know he won't use power washers!!

I bought a warehouse platform at an auction. Brilliant for cleaning the motorhome and the low gutters around the house. We were worried about where to store it but it's rarely at home as people borrow it!!!

Karcher jet wash with a patio cleaner head attached for the bulk of the roof area and a car brush attachment & cloth for the details around the roof lights etc. All dine in about 20 minutes 😀

Someone recommended Wet and Forget a few years ago on one of the forums, and I have been using it, usually twice a year since. It’s not a shiny wax type finish, but you literally dilute some in a sprayer and spay it on and leave it. It seems to work quite well at preventing build up of the green algae and stubborn marks.

We used that on our Rapido. It was very good.

Be careful what you use , some products can damage your vinyl graphics.

My mistake was not cleaning the roof as often as the rest of the MH. It comes clean BUT always lots of little black dots of something that defy anything I’ve tried so far. Now I have a new MH with solar panel I have decided to clean the roof more often. There’s so must dust and crud in the air these days and it seems to bond itself to the roof. I have also been advised that the solar panel needs to be kept clean to gain maximum efficiency, so while up there why not clean it all?
I HATE cleaning cars and the MH (and gardening) but a necessary evil if you want to keep your expensive possessions in tip-top condition.

I spray mine once a year with green clean and no mould or green anywhere, happy days.

Oh no were the scrapes done by someone else.
