What birds do you get in your garden

Had a blackcap eating the sunflower hearts today. That's a first as was seeing a peacock wandering around next door's garden! If it hops onto the feeder I'll let you know. :)

A Dipper seems to have made the river Churn (by the Waterloo car park in Ciren) part of its territory (crappy photo, couldn’t get any nearer!😉)

Today have had Long Tailed,Great and Blue Tits, pair of Black Cap, six Green Finch, Chaffinch,Gold finch, Robin, Wren a couple of Dunnock two or three Wood Pigeon,Blackbirds.
They all like sunflower hearts😊

We get a variety of birds in our garden, Blackcap returns each winter and this year we have both male and female. Lucky for us we saw a great spotted woodpecker on one of our feeders yesterday, rare sight for us.

Don't forget the big garden bird watch this weekend - 24-26 January.

We have always had a lot of birds with us being on the edge of a wood but since we started feeding sunflower hearts we have even more.

I had a woodcock in my garden , I believe they are on the red (endangered) list , it was at night in the snow , I thought it was a rabbit until it moved , then I realised what it was , unfortunately no picture so a stolen one from the internet

Shirl has an app on her phone that identifies bird song.
We get a lot of birds in the garden which are neither local to the UK and have never been here.
She swears by the app ...:LOL:

I just got a bird bath and bird feeder for the balcony. So far no birds have made use of it but one or two stood on the railing and looked. It takes a while before they stop considering anything new as a threat.

Blue tit and male sparrow have made use of the feeders.

The sparrow gets in amongst the food to pick out what he wants. The tit is a grab and fly bird.

I got all seasons bird food so hope it will be okay for them.

Our pond attracts all sorts. A family of gold finches appear daily (as many as ten). Also a pair of very large crows are fascinated with the waterfall. They bring all sorts of food to wash and/or soak. Trouble is, they often fly off leaving meaty bones etc, which the dogs fish out. Much to the annoyance of my Wife.

We have just moved house, but only 10km and not significantly different habitat, other than that our previous garden had more fruit trees.

In the previous house/garden we had quite a variety - collar doves, sparrows, tits, alpine choughs, magpies and the odd Jay, blackbird and robin.

Here we have the choughs, magpies and collar doves, but none of the smaller species. The choughs are predominant, so maybe that is the reason.

I had to look up chough. A member of the crow family.

Our feeder now has a great tit visit and they are getting braver and staying longer. Still ignoring the bird bath though.

In UK the variety of the chough are usually cliff-top inhabitants, but these are, I think, the alpine choughs, as they have grey flecks on their inner wings, not that we have hills near us.

Clever birds crows.

I read earlier today that in a theme park in France crows are being trained to pick up litter and bin it in exchange for a small food reward.

Blackbirds have been nesting in our hedge since lockdown when i was forced to wfh, at least thats when i noticed them. Each year without fail when the clicks are fledging i need to lift one back off the patio as they cant jump up the step. Last year 2 seperate broods. This year only once so far. Are really tame, will happily sit nearby when sat in our small garden. Think they appreciate the small bit of peace in the city, the dog keeps neighbours cats away, and each day i scare the magpies away from their nest.

We. live in a city, we did have a few small birds, now all we get are Magpies....... Grrrrrr
We live in the country, I’m sure I heard someone 😊 say last year they removed 87 magpies via a Larson trap so our wee birds are much safer

I also had an adult & baby great spotted woodpecker today
Not the best picture, iPad & through the glass door
Adult on the peanut feeder & baby on the stick

I saw a buzzard land in with my pygmy goats a few weeks ago. I managed to get a poor photo of it

Wow he's got a VERY clear necklace, hasn't he
Yes, he was lovely. I saw him the next day, and we’ve since seen a pair circling in the sky above, huge birds! My male pygmy goat ran at him when he landed close to them!

Feisty goat you've got there!
