We've bought an elderly but, very tidy Kon-Tiki & its fun. Photo heavy.

The van looks simply grand and in great condition. May she give you many happy miles and plenty of smiles.:D

I had a 1991 kontiki 650.Absolutly brilliant I think its only the newer ones that suffer from poor design and workmanship Only problems I had were with the pathetically narrow grey waste emptying pipe.

Nice looking van, we sold our 1997 Swift last year, it was a lovely van, well made and comfortable.
Enjoy yours, it will be difficult to let it go when the time comes!

We have had a couple of Kontiki's with identical layout as yours. Worked for us, enjoy....(y)

Good luck with the project van. The history of MOT failures and repeated advisories for rusty brake pipes gives a picture of mechanical neglect. Hope the welding for the front struts was done properly/well

sorry it looks pretty but in my opinion is that it will cost you to get it right

Hi mate, thanks for drawing my attention to the MOT history. I would have been worried if I hadn't seen the history beforehand.
I'd managed to look at the history before we went to see the moho.
I've had a cursory look at the chassis legs etc & yes she has been welded to a good standard, wish I could weld like that lol.
When we viewed the moho I had a look at the actual MOT stifficate :ROFLMAO: & was very pleased to see that the MOT had been carried out in Ayrshire at a garage that I know, in fact our Sprinter was MOT'd in that very garage & I know them to be sticklers for safety.

I'll enjoy bringing this moho up to my standard (if I'm fit enough lol) & carrying out little tweaks etc.

Regards...Robert

That’s a great bargain for 1999.99....;)

What’s the cab and mechanics like .? All good I hope and it gets you to where you want to be..... (y)

And back of course...:D

She drove the 110miles home with no issues & is quite pleasant to drive.
Even though she was a "trade" vehicle, the dealer put her through the workshop, oil & all filters changed along with new front brake pads.

So fingers crossed on the reliability front.

Regards.....Robert.

Enjoy, (y)

Hi Robert, it looks like youve gone into this with your eyes open, which is great. What troubled me most was the repeated fails year upon year for the same issues and repeated advisories for the brake pipes.
If I had bought it, my very first jobs would be to double check all previous MOT fails and make sure the repairs were eventually done properly. Then check all rubber hoses and bushes, as this van has done very few miles between MOTs over the last 10 years

other than that, it looks a cracking older van and a bargain if you can do most repairs/updates yourselves

Hope you both enjoy the new van . As you say , you'll get it the way YOU want it.
Hoping to get down to Glentrool in the next few weeks , hopefully meet yourself , the dogs , AND the van.
Take care .
John

Nice van! - regardless of age

Never liked carpets in my MH's, but the upholstery looks OK to me - if it's comfy it works, the colour and pattern are just fashion....

Enjoy it as it is(y)

Really happy for you both & the dogs also.
Looks a tidy van, lots of space for "The Family" in that rear lounge.
we are coming up to D&G tonight in the wee small hours.(been delayed with a leaky shower)if you are near the A75 I will keep my eye out for it:)
Now you can get on the road again, and get along to some Fun Rallies also.
Amazing isnt it how many Funsters had a Swift or similar van in their past experiences.
Best wishes.

Looks a cracker, well done for finding it and keeping an old in going for many more years.
They certainly don't build em like they used to

Thank you and yes it would be nice to meet some funsters at last.

Nice looking MH for its age. We have a 1990 Renault Trafic Holdsworth, so older than yours but age is only a number, Sometimes its good to be reminded of our past and how vehicles used to be made, less computers and much easier to work on.

Yes, it’s nice to have a modern van, but, if you can find an older van such as ‘Peggy’ that’s in such good condition that’s great, I think they have more character and I’m not a fan of the ‘bling’ that most modern vas seem to have!
Looks/sounds as tho you’ve found a good’un there, enjoy yourselves.

Having another look through your post Robert , around five years ago when we were "looking " and tyre kicking , we went to Dickson's in Perth . They had a nice selection of vans and we made it clear we were only in the initial throws of looking for a van. The guy , who turns out was a Dickson opened a number of vans and left us to have a good look around. As we were about to leave we let him know we were going and thanked him very much. His final words to us other than wishing us good luck if we did buy a van were " forget what they look like just now we have a terrific valeter who has them as near to new as possible , he's gay." Never worked out the significance of his sexuality , but have often wondered if I should have married another man , might have had the cleanest motorhome ever:D. On second thoughts I'm happy with the state of my van after all.
Once again , hope both of you and the "pups" get a lot of enjoyment .
John

Where did you end up spending the night?

I gave the moho a wee shakedown last night in Glen Trool & everything was spot on.

Great to hear all in order(y)(y)(y).
Did you park at the Loch carpark? Parked there last year for the day whilst I failed the Merrick. Too bloody misty anyway:(.

Hi Robert
Bad news on our Scottish (honeymoon) trip:(, we had to do an about turn at Peterborough and return home as we have a leaky shower Mixer.
Could not be sure if it was leaking at the enclosed invisible rear as well as the front which was continually dripping, so had to turn water pump off.
TinaL got worried about ingress warranty issues:rolleyes:
I have been out on the drive this morning to investigate further, if I am lucky it will just need a new cartridge, which I have now ordered for delivery tomorrow, but I also need a 32mm box spanner to get the old one out, without it I am buggered, tried every socket I have too thick to get access.....no plumbers merchants or tool place has a box spanner that size, so again found one online and ordered that also for delivery tomorrow.

So our Scottish trip for now in the hands of the Motor home Gods, & the courier companies, if all goes well, and I can get away with fitting just a new cartridge and not a whole shower mixer, then we will hit the road again.
Fingers crossed we should be up in D&G & beyond looking for a wilding spot near you before the end of the week (y)

Great to hear you have been out in your van so quickly, hope everything worked as it should & the pups enjoyed it also.
Its hard to describe to non camper or caravan owners how snug & warm you feel being away in the van in the winter on a cold night, we love it(y)
Best wishes to you all up there, I hear the weather is better than down here at the moment so even more reason to come on up.
PS: Hoping that we can visit The House O' Hill Pub/Restaurant, have a few pints & a meal, then kip down in their car park for the night, fancy a pint with us?

As far as the upholstery is concerned it looks very 'pet friendly'......

Wouldn't like anything with no pattern, light colour and definitely not leather....

Save your money....it's perfect(y)

Lovely looking van, hope you have many happy miles in her!

For TinaL, when you do hit the A75 watch out for potholes, the road has gone downhill in just the last month, especially toward the western end!

Looks good, fittings made from real wood ? Not something that has never seen a tree :(

This was our second Motorhome same model as yours Robert and Hazel when we were in Brittany in 1997

Lovely looking Motorhome, love the interior, warm and welcoming, a pleasant place to be .
We wish we had those roof lights in our Apache, doesn't matter what the weather or which you are facing you can still have the roof open.

Good luck with your mods.(y)

Hi John.

I parked up at Stincher Falls & it was deserted.

The Forestry Commission have added some cycle routes which begin at the car park & the surface they've put down looks lovely.

Managed to do a bit of stargazing & the silence was deafening, so a really peaceful night.

Regards...Robert
