We have a 'bonus' French issued EU pet passport

Given this more thought over the weekend and looked at many websites (obviously UK.GOV officially) & everywhere is stating EU pet passport OR AHC so really can’t see there being any grey area with this. My one concern is that if travelling from UK on EU pet passport there will nothing to confirm that Fido is ‘fit for travel’ obviously this would be covered by the AHC if we had one and will be confirmed by the French vet on our return. I would have thought that if a ‘fit for travel’ examination was compulsory on an EU passport to enter the EU then I would have found it somewhere? Am I missing something? I’d appreciate any info and/or thoughts on this... thank you.

This has been covered many times. The 'fitness to travel' section is for unaccompanied travel, e.g. in a crate in an aircraft hold. It is not requires if the pet is accompanied by its owner at all times.

I have just rung my vet and he is positive that our dog still needs the new health certificate to enter the EU and he is pretty sure if we are away more than 4 months we will now need another to re enter Uk . He is charging us £100. Very disappointing

Your vet needs to check out the proper info and stop trying to either scam you or is incompetent - as you already have a valid EU passport you don't need an AHC at all otherwise anyone who came from the EU to visit the UK with their EU pet would need one as well which they don't.

You've lost me there ... what are you barking about?

If it's to do with the 'human's not having a UK passport it doesn't make any difference, the pet has it's own passport independent of what passport the owners hold. If a AHC was mandatory for returning to the EU all pets, regardless of the country of their owners' own passports, would need an AHC before leaving the UK. Having an EU pet passport negates the need for an AHC altogether.

Was in contact with our vet yesterday and they confirmed we do not need an AHC if have a French E.U. pet passport. They will also issue a certificate (£10) confirming our particular dog food is needed for medical reasons so we can take it with us........

An EU pet passport is perfectly acceptable for the animal to travel back & for forever.& as many times as wished subject to keeping up the vaccinations..

Oh for goodness sake - 2kg!! I was intending to pop two 6kg bags in...an extra one just in case when we get there everything is lovely and decided to stay longer!! Doubt 2kg would last a week - it is fish based so maybe that could go toward the 20kg per person fish allowance? Could say it was the kids favourite travelling snack at the minute! Looks like if we do go she'll be dining out on fresh fish, boiled potato and peas ....... could probably bulk it out with tinned fish tbh which would be widely available if not a bit pricey... just when you think you're sorted eh? (always read the small print!)

No the animal would still require his own.It is the same as a human completely seperate & allows the animal to travel without you & with anyone they want.

Your dog doesn't need a blood test. You can have the rabies jabs done here and an EU vet may be happy to transfer the info into an EU passport. There's a lot of info on the forum about what's needed so have a shuftie and then let us know if there's anything that's not clear.

A UK issued PP is no longer a recognised document in the EU however it's a useful thing to have so that if you have the rabies jabs done in the UK it can still be entered into it by the vet so is all kept together in one document just as previously, this info then can be used by an EU vet to do an EU PP for your dog. It doesn't matter what PP you have as it's totally irrelevant to what you do for your dog.

Yes mine too, eaten the odd bone biscuit. Reckons hygiene in pet food factories are higher than human food factories!!! Though think it’s more to wind the dog up!!

You have a genuine EU issued passport which met the requirements at the time it was issued and this hasn't been changed as it is still accepted in the EU so I can't see why you'd need an AHC as well.
