I’ve had a Wastehog for a couple years now but as anyone who also has one will know it’s extremely heavy when full, it feels like lifting the full 46kg off the ground. I’m conscious that if I accidentally dropped the thing on a hard surface whilst wheeling it to the waste it’d probably split. Either way it’s a very heavy thing to drag along.

I’m thinking of having a wheeled dolly fabricated to hold the upper end by the handle whilst moving it to the waste, has anyone already made such a thing, any suggestions? I’m thinking of using large golf trolley wheels like the ones fitted to the bottom as they’ll be needed on grass pitches.

Thanks folks I’m aware there are other grey waste containers out there so don’t need suggestions on other products, I‘m happy with the Wastehog if I can sort out a dolly.

We're is the sarcasm it was a sensible suggestion.

You won't like my suggestion then, your motorhome has got wheels & an engine why not drive to the waste point, that's what I do.
I park up for a couple of weeks and have a large Thule Safari tent on my awning, so moving the ‘van isn’t an option.

We are often on site for a week at a time if we have Grandchildren with us.

The daily / twice daily empty of the bucket and every other day for the cassette is a valuable lesson for them as to how much water we use and how to dispose of it. When they are with us we use sites with showers and dish wash as a rule :)

It's not sarcasm, it's common sense.
If you read my original post I was asking if anyone had any suggestions for the designs for a dolly, not alternative methods of storing/disposing of my grey waste. I have enough common sense to know that a half full tank would be easier to manoeuvre. I was reaching out to ask if anyone had come up with a fix using the tank I have, unfortunately there’s very little help being offered just lots of replies stating the obvious, if that’s not sarcasm I will to see what is.

I tried to keep my original post as brief as possible, unfortunately that’s backfired on me, so here goes with the other stuff I’d decided not to include.

I park up for a week or two on each trip and install a Thule Safari tent under my 4.5 x 2.5 metre awning, due to various personal issues that takes at leat 2 hours, on some hard ground much longer. Hopefully I dont need to justify to users of the forum why I do this. So the option of moving to a service point isn’t available. Additionally the dump valve on my ‘van is inside the garage door, which isn’t accessible as one of the vertical weather bars on the tent runs over it. Before setting up the awning I have to open the dump valve and ensure the Wastehog is in place. The Wastehog won’t fit under my ’van, or any other container I’ve looked at so I’ve used a Collapz hose to connect to it. I also have personal issues, very minor but limiting what I can carry.

As someone has commented I’m probably on the wrong forum, I’d not thought it necessary to include the full reason I was looking for help with a dolly design, certainly didn’t expect the alternative replies that have nothing to do with the design for a dolly.

Maybe try tugging and book a fully serviced pitch, motor mover on the tug and a blowup awning with a motor inflater…. Water piped in and waste straight down the drain… not much physical required for all of that.. 👍🏼

I’m going to have to start charging for my fantastic advice one of these days… 😎

Sorry our bucket system won't work for you :(

I think a skateboard under the handle or a car creeper may be the way to go.

Car creeper seems the most likely solution. Not very heavy and quite slimline for stowage when not in use.

I think a little context helps potential responders understand the nature of the challenge and why a targeted solution is being sought. It could be that nobody else has your combination of equipment and requirements, hence no direct oven ready solutions outside of the skateboard/car creeper type ideas. Another thought, could having 2 slightly smaller repositories (similar to the example given earlier) work for you with your hose connection? Using a swap in/out approach, there would be less weight to manipulate in one go. Obviously, the down side would be having to monitor and manage swapping out the full repository with the empty one on a more frequent basis. But given you currently remove the repository without mention of a contingent measure (other than not using water?), I guess this approach is not of use/interest either. Sincerely, I hope you are able to identify a method/solution which works for your particular use case.

Thanks, a far more positive and helpful reply.

I’ve had the grey waste pipe moved to the near side of my ‘van as it originally exited on the offside, which would have been into my awning, not ideal. Care was taken to ensure the end of the pipe was at the same height from the ground as it was originally, both to allow a decent flow from the storage tank and ground clearance. Unfortunately the exit pipe still sits very low, my original 25 litre containers are too high, so only after a great deal of research I found the ’hog, which has the lowest cap/neck I could find.

As the dump valve is permanently open when I parked up I have to keep a careful eye on the level to ensure I catch it in good time; I’ve got this off to a tee.

I’ve been camping, ‘vanning, whatever for over 50 years so have seen and used all sorts of methods for fresh and grey water, the hog works for me with my current set up, but would be greatly enhanced if I could just move it easier.

When I have asked a question on here I have thanked every reply even when posters come up with alternative ideas that I haven’t thought of.

Someone probably has a good solution to your problem but probably won’t post it now because of the nature of your responses.

I agree with this. The OP has taken offence at what he sees as sarcasm but which I see as some gentle ribbing which is a feature of MHF and which can sometimes be quite amusing.

If you read my original post I’d made the point that I wasn’t looking for alternatives, just ideas for a dolly to help me. The majority of replies are totally irrelevant, patronising at best, and offer no help whatsoever with the problem, so why were the posted at all?

It’s very sad to read that due to a handful of people posting completely irrelevant replies and me questioning them that I’m somehow at fault. Surely if anyone doesn’t have an answer to a serious question why post anything at all, is it just to keep up their post count or be seen, I fail to see how that helps?

It‘s a very odd forum indeed when the majority of replies are irrelevant from a cabal of pals who take exception to me taking exception to there replies, and I end up being sent to Coventry. I really didn’t realise it was such an inclusive forum.

I think you need to lighten up a bit Wickenman. As far as I can see you have had some good suggestions about how to solve your problem which lets face it could be solved with just a few minutes thinking. No-one on here is in a clique or is patronising and you'll find that when you have a real problem they will always be good natured, maybe make some irrelevant comments but in the end come up trumps.

The answer is in the forum name Motorhome FUN…. There are some serious issues discussed on this forum but most of the time we like to lighten things up a bit…. There’s too much misery about already.

As I’ve said before, I think your on the wrong forum, no offence intended, Fun is not for everyone…😎

And in my case someone went a long way out of their way to help me out of a very nasty predicament.

I’ve got the larger waste tank and it is very heavy to lift when full. So I understand the problem. For me the fix was to empty it more often.

The common problem to all the dolly solutions is that the smaller wheels won’t be easy on soft ground (grass) or uneven hard surfaces. You need the big wheels to make that easier.

However if you want to move it full and by way of developing an idea - if the dolly board idea is too heavy how about an old fashioned roller blade under the handle?

My apologies for posting a serious enquiry on a fun site, I’ve read loads of others where people have wanted help, as I did, and didn’t suffer the rubbish I’ve had.

How very odd for someone to post a question on a Motorhome site to be told I’m on the wrong site, ie get off. I’ve paid my subs and outrageously thought I could reach out for help with a problem.

It demonstrates the inclusivity of the site when someone who isn’t a regular poster asks for help on a Motorhome issue to be told I’m on the wrong site, absolutely disgusting.

The main point is some people posted really good advice about emptying the tank more often and you thought that was sarcasm.

I know someone on a community forum and he wanted to get the 149 bus but it didn’t stop off at the gasworks, he asked for alternatives and a chap posted and said why doesn’t he get the 138 to Acacia Drive, then wait 20 minutes for the 121 straight to the gas works. The initial poster went mad” I’m not getting 2 buses and furthermore waiting 20 minutes for the second bus”

He was never to be seen again on the forum, I’ve always wandered what happened to him.

You’re not called Arthur Pentelow are you, if so, I’d just like to say they’ve now stopped the 138 to Acacia Drive. You would have to now get the 176 past Johnston Street then walk 800 yards to the gasworks.

Think you have blown it now mate, you won't get any senseable answer now.
The simple answer was right at the beginning, don't fill it so full.

If it’s too heavy when full don’t let it get full, oh sorry that’s me being sarcastic again.

Oh deary deary me... some sensitive soul who can't stand a bit of banter over what is a very straightforward question.
Fill less
Move motorhome
Or use wheels on wastehog
Not really many other alternatives.

Of course it's absolutely your choice how you use your MH but given your stated MO, sounds like you'd be happier as a tugger rather than a chugger.

Needless to say, but your whiny responses are unlikely to endear you to the forum.
