Perhaps the most iconic picture is of the Rathaus, built on a bridge spanning the Regnitzarm.

Tomorrow we start to head back towards Gravelines. We have three days left and will be quite sorry to leave Germany. View attachment 821782
Beautiful photos! Thanks for the write up too

If you are heading up through Germany this is a nice stop over, not a lot there apart from a lovely lake and some walks through the National Park.

That looks superb thanks.

We decided not to leave Fussen today and instead go for a bike ride, nothing heavy about 40k. Needless to say a lot more people use their bikes, towing children and for some reason dogs.
We rode our bikes from Buetgenbach (BE) to Monschau (DE) on Sunday. About 25km each way. We put the dog in his trailer because we couldn’t expect him to run 25k on tarmac in 90 minutes, wander around town with us and then run back. Even though he’s only 2, it would be too much. An option would be to leave him in the van all day, and then he’d need letting out! Then we’d not be able to go out! So the dog trailer is a really useful piece of kit. We stop and give him a run for a while, then he’s back in his trailer and we crack on.

Whilst your that way, I presume it was the Vennbahn you were on

That’s what we do 95% of the time😁
We we’re heading to Sweden and ended up in Switzerland last month😂😂
Our first trip in our first Motorhome we were heading for the baltic coast, weather looked crap so we turned right at Belgium and ended up in Slovenia
The smaller yellow castle where king Ludwig grew up is well worth a visit also👍
Agree more interesting than Nueschwanstein it's about 20 years ago we did both.

Yes, the RAVel L45a from Worriken to be precise!

Just want to say, I think your thread is really good.

I particularly thought that your take on Würzburg was 'spot-on'.

It was said tongue in cheek. We have friends who come away with us quite a bit, and they have a dog which can sometimes limit what they can do, so I often suggest getting a trailer. They haven't taken the plunge yet, I think they are concerned their whippet won't stay in it.

Unfortunately, we didn't make it to Rurberg today. There were road works that went on for nearly 100k (literally), traffic was slow and it was raining so we decided to call it a day. Instead we diverted back to the Mosel and are at Sun Camping not far out of Bernkastel. Going to be nice here tomorrow but we will have to move on, maybe after getting some breakfast out.

We always find it a bit dull when we have to head home, but there are positives such as I managed to buy some decent white wine today at a reasonable price.

I never want to get back home while away but when I have to I look forward to it, if that makes sense…🤔

Safe travels. We brought some lovely wine back from the Mosel. Riesling Trocken (dry). Wish I’d brought some beer too.

I’ve really enjoyed your travelogue, great information and lovely pictures. I think We will now put Germany on our list for touring to. Thank you.

You are a mine if useful information, thank you. History is my thing. When we get back I have to get back to writing my thesis which is in history, so I’m always interested although I specialise in a different area.

Which way are you coming back and what is the history speciality ?

We will go through Luxembourg for fuel and then stop at a CCP place possibly Charleville. My PhD centres around the contemporary history of the Mashriq, so places like Syria, Yemen, Lebanon, Israel and Palestine. In particular the activities of NGOs and human rights groups such as Amnesty.

We just topped up in L - €1.60 per litre at the moment.

You seem to put that very diplomatically! 🤔😂

Highly recommend the aire at Ettelbrück (50 cents per hour) with the Patten museum a short walk away.

Our whippets have done a fair few miles along the Mosel in our bike trailer, just spend some time getting them used to it before you use it in anger (wheels off and a few treats placed inside). It's also proved useful for transporting shopping and cases of wine from the weingut back to the van !
I'm not a wine buff, but I know what I like and I also know what doesn't like me (dry whites =instant heartburn) I find the sweeter Mosel wines starting with the halbtrocken/feinherbe quite palatable and for a change to red, a dornfelder usually hits the spot.
Tried the Eiswein one year, it was so sweet, I phoned and made a dental appointment as I could feel the cavaties starting to form in my teeth !

Yes we did the same at €1.60.

Ettelbruck looks good, I have favourited it for future journeys.

It was a beautiful morning on the Mosel, with temperatures forecast to make the mid 20s. We decided to stop in Bernkastel and have a short walk along the river to get a pastry and coffee. We popped into Edeka to buy a few foods to take take home and then hit the road.

After stopping off for lunch and fuel in Luxembourg we pulled into the CCP in Charleville-Mézieres on the border between Belgium and France. The air has quite a good view of the old Olympic rowing facility plus the town has the most incredible and rather grand square where we had a beer and watched a murmuration of starlings. Tomorrow we head to Gravelines where we have booked a table at a restaurant next to the Aire, hoping for a decent French meal before returning to the UK. With luck the good food will offset the feeling of depression we always get when we hit the motorways and hear the news of what is happening at home.

It's not a great picture but hopefully this shows the murmuration.
