Has anyone fitted a fan behind the fridge for extra ventilation in hot weather? Are they successful?
Just out of curiosity and any suggestions would be helpful.

If you look online you will find a kit with a temp controlled setup.

A great many Funsters have fitted fans to draw air out from the top fridge vents to improve the fridge cooling, here's my home brew setup.

I fitted a simple fan kit to my previous ‘van. I added an on/off switch in case, but it worked fine and did reduce the fridge temp / energy to keep it cold while in Spain.
I have a 12v compressor fridge now so no vent.
If you only use your van in the UK, you probably don’t need one.

I've fitted one on the last two vans to assist the existing one on a compressor fridge. These I have controlled with either fixed or adjustable thermostats, two speed levels, slow via a resistor fast with the resistor shorted out.
Workes well in hot weather rarely needed in UK temperatures.

Make sure you fit to the exhaust vent at the top to extract heat. I had a Brunner kit on my last van which worked well, new van has series 10 dometic fridge so a nit different as vent is up thru the roof so will investigate options soon.

I also have a similar setup as above, also it's worth checking the thermal paste on the cooling plate as replacing that makes a difference if defective.

We travel in Spain in a motorhome all rear round....when parking up I ensure the fridge remains in the shade, this is also the door side, I've never experienced the need to assist my fridge in keeping cool....

I noted a guy in Rhodes place a reflective foil sheet on the wall of the panel between the lower and upper grills when he was parked up.
No idea how effective that would be

Our new dometic series 10 compressor came with a fan located near the base of the fridge pushing air up

My 3 way sucks air through the bottom vent via two computer fans and powered by a small powerbank held by velcro.
The fans are secured with cable ties.
It works well.

Might re-do my paste at some point.

The dealer fitted it for us. It is a kit with manual and auto options.
It transformed the performance of the fridge/freezer.

Are you sure? A fridge of any kind is still trying to exchange heat from one area to another. If the outside is hot surely that’s going to hinder it?

Very easy to do with 4 x6" computer fans and a thermostatic switch which cuts in when the air temp hits a preset figure. Whole cost of bits around £20.

Why do you have the controller outside? I have mine above fridge and next to a digital fridge temperature gauge so I can easily adjust the cutin/out fan temps.

Depends what fridge you have. Dometic can supply fans that fit top and bottom, thermostatically controlled and connected to the electrics. Not tried yet, but ready for Spain later this year.

I fitted a Brummer twin fan kit last year, which seemed fine and helped in extreme heat. The difficulty this year has been finding the extreme heat! About two days in the south of France is all we've managed !

Waeco/Dometic compressor fridges have a built in fan and radiator. Modern versions are 'cross flow' across the top of the back of the fridge. I have fitted ventilation either side of the enclosure with additional fan assistance thermostatically controlled to assist the original fitment when the ambient temperature demands it.
All I can say is that it has worked for me in the past in my self builds.

Looked at it so little room behind the fridge with the 10 series fridge not practical to get the cables down will have to use the less efficient method of fans blowing in at the bottom.
The fridge does work a lot better than previous models may see how it goes.
