Vehicle Battery Charge

I had my Imala from new and soon discovered a lot of it was very short sighted.i had many issues and was a nightmare with the dealers. Then finding that the electrical system was very low end surprised me. Still my mistake I spose not enough experience and research.

I got rid and got a van that is superior in electrics..comfort and quality. Lesson learned with my autotrail.
I don't know if any Motorhomes have high-end electrics as standard? Just look at the posts here of people with £100k+ Morello's who have spent significant money on upgrades.
I did a full system last year for someone with a brand-new Hymer A Class to upgrade the Electrics with a Victron setup and swap the batteries for smart Lithium ones.
On my own Autotrail, I have taken away the charging work from the Sargent system and that is now done by more powerful and superior products, but the rest of the stuff the Sargent PDU does I like just fine even though it was made well over 15 years ago.
(and the van itself apart from the electrics is just fine as well in fact. Not perfect any more but it is 15 years old afterall).

I did similar, bypassed all the small wiring and added thicker wiring, bigger batteries, charger and of course solar power, with the usual b2b. pretty much indefinitley off grid, and even then sold it. I just fell out of love with it I spose,
Now dont get me wrong , if you are a manufacturer and adding an extra mm to all the cable etc in a van mounts up to a tidy sum over the year, so if its not required by all yor custmers then why do it?

but I felt they had erm "budgetted" a little to cautiously on all aspects of the van.
I wont bore you about broken latches after 2 weeks, door locks knackered , head unit gone, hooks, handles, falling off, hand brake stopped working, window latches screws fell out, connecton to cab battery loose and almost melting through the footwell floor panel (smelt it) , lots of other snaggy bits.
No not for me,

Hi
Your Sargent ECU will only charge both batteries if it is set in the advanced menu to 'Charge to Smart' the other two options are 'Charge to Leisure' & 'Charge to Vehicle'.

the one the op was asking about the EC155...it doesnt, the EC500 does have a smart menu (some say hidden) the 500 "smart" feature is set as default though

I didn't realize this wasn't something that comes standard, I'll have to keep an eye out for when we look
