Looking to wire my nextbase dash cam in. I've installed a USB socket for the SAT nav so thought I'd plug in there rather than direct to a piggy back fuse.

Currently it has a cigarette plug on so thought I'd try just changing to a USB plug so looking for one I can wire myself.

I’ve just purchased a Nextbase dash cam and have also ordered the hardwire kit. I know nothing about the power gubbins so will be getting a professional to wire it in. Don’t want to use the cig socket as the sat nag uses that and I don’t want to have a bulky double adapter.

More than toes wet now!
Be aware different usb output sockets can supply different amperage outputs so you'll need to take this into consideration. Does the socket provide sufficient?

I used one is these kits from evilbay. Still working fine three years later with the nextbase. The difficult bit was threading the wire through to the screen area, from the fuses under the steering wheel. But it didn't take long to fit.

It's on a 5a fuse, I looked at the hardwire kit and that had 2a I think.

Yes, but USB is 5v, not 12v, so needs higher amps for the same power.

It may be fine, have you tried it on USB?

My Garmin satnav has a dashcam built in, USB will run the sat nav but there's not enough power to run the camera.
