Just bought £7.50 worth of chicken breasts….frozen them. Just going on a 5.45 hour ferry plus 1.15 loading so call it 7 hours. Will my chicken defrost or should I put fridge on gas. Not even sure if you are allowed to leave gas on on a ferry 😥

Gas has to be isolated on Ferries & yes I would imagine it will defrost over that time!
Make a gigantic chicken curry when you arrive :Eeek:

If you pack your fridge well, put in some frozen milk, chill it right down and keep the door closed it would still be chilled if you went on the crossing to Spain 👍

At 9.45 at night ! What about the Kilo of frozen prawns….a humungous Prawn Cockatil 😥

I have frozen dog food delivered to me from Scotland on a 24 hours service. It arrives by courier in two cardboard boxes, inner and outer, with some light insulation and its still always 100% frozen solid.
I don’t have a dog with me ☹️

Wrap in bubble wrap and several layers of corrugated cardboard.* You can peel off any defrosted / part defrosted chicken from the outside to cook ASAP but the rest should still be solid. *Put into an insulated bag in the fridge and wrap in towels or even your silver screens silver side in - anything to add insulation.

Pity we aren't closer or we would lend you our electric cool box which you could have used in the passenger area of the ferry.

Gas does have to be off but if well insulated the chicken should remain frozen.

Bubble wrap….several layers of cardboard? I wouldn’t get it back in the freezer if I did that…it’s only a small freezer. I’m almost as tight as Lenny HB (obviously not AS tight) but £7.50 ! …..from Waitrose as well….none of yer Lidl rubbish !

Who do you get your raw food from these days - I still get Kerry's food from DAF, but am always on the look out for a better deal.
And, now that Fresco has stopped supplying air dried raw... have you found any other, reasonably priced, suppliers?
TIA

I reckon it will be alright in the closed freezer compartment, in the insulated fridge, in the unheated vehicle deck.
Any worries, as others have said, cook at destination and refreeze.

Probably won't defrost at all in the fridge over that time period. Adding extra insulation will help slow the process if you're that concerned.

Personally, I'd check it on arrival and if it's solid, all's good. Keep frozen for as long as you want.

If it's starting to thaw, leave in the fridge and in a day or two it will be ready to cook. And that's all good, too. :)

We always try fill the freezer with ice packs, they will keep the temp down.

If you have a large enough battery, you could run the fridge on 12v while on ferry? (depends how yours is wired - ours will run off 12v, a lot of vans will only run when engine running)

I assume your ferry is within the UK? as you are'nt supposed to take meat to the EU anymore! ;)

People think you can't but....you can re freeze chicken anyway as long as it has been in your fridge and is still chilled. And if your has been in your freezer it will still be partly or mostly froze

Don't worry about it.

If you're heading into the EU from GB, the Douanes may solve the problem for you.

It’s not meat it’s chicken

Freeze juice cartons, water bottles and anything that will freeze and put it in a cool box and it will stay frozen for a couple of days . We used to do this when we camped znd had no fridge

The chicken should be fine as long as it’s frozen when you put it in the freezer. If we have space in our freezer we fill it with sandwich sized ziplock bags full of ice cubes, and it keeps the freezer frozen for quite a long time.

Happy Holidays!
