Upgraded my Toilet Blue - What a difference

As far as I can tell there is at least no formaldehyde in it.

Most of the blue products I viewed in a quick internet scan appears to be 25% formaldehyde.
I have no idea how that is even still legal these days, especially for a product that is absolutely not required or necessary in any way, shape of form: bio is always better.

It reminds me of Victorians using arsenic in gardening and as a dye back in the day ;)

Fluoride toothpaste incidentally won't be helping any septic tanks either as some of the fluorides chosen are quite deadly, for instance IIRC sodium fluoride being 80x more lethal than calcium fluoride.

Tried the bio but didn't realise you needed to thoroughly clean the casette before using.
That will be a nice job for me hope the top is easier to get off this casette than the last one. Makes sense to use one thing for either casette or washing clothes, Will be going for the liquid possibly its what I use at home, but the tablets are easily crushed and means that less can be used. Think I have some of the bio tablets already too. (aldi)

Bio (and Yeast) enzymes are very delicate little bugs (gers!) and you can easily kill them. If you thoroughly clean the cassette a couple of times and persevere they will start working for you. If it's really necessary, clean the bowl with the same bio type washing liquid.

SOG!!! Please........no more chemicals in the environment whatever colour they may be.

Agree we use SOG, also hang car air freshener from hose in the cassette hatch which leaves pleasant smell in the bathroom.

Ive just looked at the Safety Data Sheet for Thetford Aqua Chem Blue . They only show two main ingredients.
I'm not a chemist but Calcium Nitrate is used in waster water treatment to prevent smells and the other is toxic to marine life
What is 2-bromo-2-nitropropane-1,3-diol?
Also known as Bronopol. It’s used as a preservative.

What’s the problem with 2-bromo-2-nitropropane-1,3-diol?
It’s suspected to be a skin irritant, a lung and liver toxicant, and to have an adverse effect on the human immune system.
It’s a wildlife and environmental toxin.
It ranks as a high hazard on the EWG Skin Deep database.
There are also concerns that it can be contaminated with formaldehyde and nitrosamines.
What’s being done about 2-bromo-2-nitropropane-1,3-diol?
It’s restricted in Canada and in the EU.

As far as I can see neither will promote breakdown of biological waste, rather its just a preservative and inhibitor without the use of the word Formaldehyde
Me, we have a sog ( with an on/off switch for when we are very near other people) and use biological products everytime- you can tell when you empty it if it all flows out like cold tea!

You don't even need the good stuff - I'm a convert to this - no smells - not even the smell of chemical perfume.
The downside is that it's definitely not blue when you empty the cassette.

£1.00 for 5 sachets/cassette doses

Try using Brewer's Yeast Tablets - you can get a tub of 500 on Fleabay for a few quid. Light, cheap, easy to use, does the job, what's not to like? I chuck 5 or 6 tablets in when the weather is cold and 4 when it's warmer. Not scientific but seems to work!

If your using any chemicals the green one appears to the better one for the environment, our motor home toilet came supplied with the extractor fan (SOG). I wasn’t aware it had one until I used the loo.

I converted from the dreaded blue stuff years ago to washing tablets. Not to save money but because I didn't like the smell or the irremovable blue dye which seemed to get everywhere from even the slightest spill.
People seem to recommend Lidl or Aldi brands but I usually use Tesco as that's where I mostly shop. In Portugal I had to buy some other brand which does just as well. A bonus is that it saves carrying an extra tub of stuff for the washing.
In winter when I don't use the fresh water tank, I have a spray bottle filled 50/50 with fabric conditioner/water to spray the bowl after use. That smells nice too, and keeps the bowl slippy to assist things on their way in. :D2

I find that whatever perfume the additives have, it starts off smelling lovely but then you begin to associate it to toilet times, and it looses its appeal!

Sounds a bit Pavlovian to me :)
