Unbelievable

and its usually fully booked , very hard to get a pitch due to its location
were booked on for Easter for 5 nights which works out at an eyewatering £230

I think I'll stick to finding somewhere out of town, use my OAP bus-pass, and spend the surplus on food?

A motorhomer in our street spent last week at fort William here did not stay at a camp site, he booked a room at a premier inn for £5 a night more than the local campsite, which with elect was more than £40 a night. In the summer he is going to wild camp. What are site prices going to be this summer. He goes every weekend and all school, holidays.

Even they are getting pricey for a basic stop over.
The old boy where we have stayed often was feeling under pressure to increase his price from £5 .
He said they kept asking him to add more facilities and to charge at least £12 .
I prefer no facilities apart from a tap and maybe black waste dump .

Shocking prices £40 for one night, the CAMC opened a site near us in Barnard Castle a few years ago, you need to get your eyes retested when you look at the prices. Perhaps Mr Cummings was travelling there last year?

We like CLs for a fiver but not many of those left either. Why take your own house with you but still pay hotel prices it’s crazy

.

It’s why I’m in Spain €9 per night including service , EHU and WiFi .

Not Spain but typical France and over 90 nights thats quite a saving on £40 per night and to be honest even some CL sites are now quoting silly prices £15-20 just to park overnight in a field no facilities. Thats not for us. Canterbury P&R then France it is

Damn shame they still charge for us to get there, couldn't we just drive through the service tunnel??

we were at BC just a few days before Christmas and the CAMC site was fairly busy
Lots of Motorhomes so some members seem to be happy to pay

CAMC Rowntree Park, York is £46 per night this year.
It's only £29 a night in a couple of weeks, probably less because of the vat reduction.......that's a big price rise for the summer months
Winter camping 👍

Yeah there is no comparison between France and UK for motorhomes, I think the camps here just take advantage of people who for some reason or other, can't or won't go to France.
Anyone who is thinking they can't go for wrong side of road, language, afraid of tunnel or ferry or whatever reason, just build up the courage and go, you will never regret it, it's a different world and you will be fine at a fraction of the price for better weather and food and wine, scenery , everything.
Wish I had gone forty years before we did.

How can they be taking advantage ? It’s not compulsory to buy a motorhome or caravan, nobody makes them it’s by choice. It’s also a choice if they want to stay at the campsite. I don’t get what people are moaning about, different if it’s the price of electric or how much tax you have to pay as it’s not a choice.

It’s good to moan might slow down the price increases 🤪 maybe or maybe not 🤔

A good reason to use an account like Revolut..
I love both Revolut and Starling, only this morning when it tipped 1.2 Revolut automatically changed £ to € for me foc. it’s great and i’d recommend it to anyone

Also if anyone does fancy joining it’s free and if recommended we both get £50

I wouldn’t be without it especially when travelling europe

Al 👍👍

Seriously agree with this, we’ve only been motorhoming just over 3 years and wished we’d been in a position to do it a lifetime ago.

We bought the first one brand new, didn’t even know how to fill with water and within 2 weeks we had crossed the tunnel and all I knew was if we kept going south we’d get to Spain 😂

Go for it i’d say and enjoy it as much as you possibly can as it’s a fantastic experience we think

Al 👍

Its spreading too..campsite here in nafplion €31 per night. Airbnb €20 per night with washing machine etc so not only can you stay and have shower etc but can also wash and dry your laundry . So it works out half the price

Something wrong somewhere

We were just like most when first venturing abroad ,like lambs to the slaughter, but you learn quickly & listen to advice. What we found was experience comes at a cost & to listen to people who have been there & done it before but you never stop learning.

Knaresborough CAMC in August wants £40 as night gulp 😡😡😡
They say it's ran for the Members, I say it's ran like a big business , spends money like water sometimes ( example, I was at NEC show a few years ago, and asked a CAMC Manager there what happens to the stand after the Show, he said it's chucked away it's too expensive to store !!)
Also some are probably on fat Salaries and Pensions if look at their Financial Yearly report Salaries are all lumped together !!

Most companies do likewise. The cost of carefully dismantling, safely packaging, transporting to storage, handling at storage, insurance, etc, etc is frequently greater than just buying new and getting the supplier to position and erect for you.

Just like all those tents that are put up and hired out a festival etc, it’s cheaper to dump them then pack them away. Terrible really.
