Got a tyre that the van system says is under inflated. I tried to get it to 80psi using a petrol station air service but it wouldn’t beep.

I also noticed some crazing on the tyre wall. Is this an MOT failure? See pic

Thank you all again for your comments and advise.
One last question; Do the tyre people re-use the tyre pressure widget in the replacment valve or replace it at the same time as replacing the valve, or anything else?
They should be able to reuse it, not all tyre pressure monitoring relies on actually measuring the pressure in the tyre  but if it is that type they should be able to check the battery state and replace as required but keep the widget.

No, car tyres .

Noisy and poor grip
That explains the photo. I was wondering who ran a motorhome on 'boy racer' 205/55's. The only tyres I've seen with tyre walls like that are scrap ones propping up boats at my sailing club.

Hi BigClick
I replaced our motorhome tyres earlier this year. Lots of the online sites offering tyres will not guarantee recent manufacture dates e.g. I think BlackCircles will sell you tyres that maybe as much as 3 years old, but obviously unused. Given that age of tyre is considered by some to be a key factor for motorhome that are stationary for long periods I thought I'd flag 'mytyres.co.uk' to you. This site will let to stipulate that you want tyres manufactured this year for a small supplement (£7.99 as at April '23) which I considered a good investment to ensure I'm not looking at a replacement in 3 or even 2 years time given how expensive these tyres can be! Mytyres have a number of local fitters they partner with so hopefully you can find a convenient one.

Hope this helps

That does help, much appreciated as I'm looking to replace all four (5?) for next season. Thought I might research BF Goodrich as a lot of vans now seem to be using them, possibly mainly conversions.

If you store your van where the tyres are in the sun then protect the tyre walls by using tyre covers.

I can get facyory Michelin Agilis 225/75 R16 CP for £135 a corner fitted, new valves and balanced, so £470 a set !
Done 5K on mine from new in Jan 2023 and still like new, they get slagged off but they are doing really well all round Europe through the mountains, above clouds, and very wet roads without any problems with grip etc, can only speak as I find.
Guy's name is Lucas, he's based near Stoke on Trent Halmerend Tyre's 👌 P.s. Tyre was for a spare to identically match road Tyre's, was dated within 6 month's of manufacture.

Manufactured 3rd week of Jan 2018 so tyre is nearly 6 year's old, and liable to blow out when hot with those cracks !

I had to change my hankooks vanco a few weeks ago I wanted Maxxis Vansmart but I couldn't find a supplier close by so I got 4 Devanti wintertec tyres. These have been very good on wet boggy grass and ok on tarmac. These tyres are overall slightly louder especially over 65mph and the tread is not as aggressive as some winter tyres.

Also a CP tyre is made especially for weight, so make sure whatever you buy is capable of doing it's job in hand !
Tread plies: must be at least 2 Polyester+++3 Steel
Side wall plies: at least 2 Polyester.
Saved me a few times clipping kerbs at fuel stations and islands, or just some muppet hogging the white line !
Don't risk it for a few quid, especially if a coachbuilt motorhome 3.5t or above . . .

Laden commercial vehicles aren’t particularly light.

typical of many Michelin tyres

These are photos of Michelin Cross Climate / X Climate

Ours started cracking at 3,000 miles and 18 months old roughly.

Kwik Fit and Michelin Complaints dept are a waste of time. Didn't bother with pursuing the matter as I exported the car to Spain. Kick Fit wanted the car back with them and Michelin would only allow me to claim through Kwik Fit.

They would not doubt blame the pressures or storage. Even though it was in daily use at the time.

I switched to other brands but do Like the Michelin Alpin WintersView attachment 810717View attachment 810718View attachment 810719View attachment 810720View attachment 810721View attachment 810722View attachment 810723View attachment 810724
I have decided to replace the cracking Michelin Tyres with new ones.

For the First time Ever, I have bought Chinese tyres. To fit Michelin/Goodyear was pushing €500 fitted.

So I have managed to get a deal at Feu Vert Broken Link Removed

Rovelo All Weather R4S 205/55R16 94V X 4 €232 fitted.

Its a holiday car/runaround Audi A3. It will not be driven at high speeds and I am not paying at least twice as much for German Manufactured tyres that crack around the sidewalls in such a short time and low miles.

Audi A3 is car not a motorhome, so it's not so Important what you fit on a car that's only a fraction of the weight ! ! !

We are talking 3.5t+ a totally different aspect in life 🤷‍♂️
