Two Go Back For More Cheese

We are almost at the end of our trip but with excellent weather continuing we had no alternative but go for a walk this morning! My fitness app was pleased with this decision. :)

It was a brisk walk and included the finding of a geocache which had defeated us the last time we looked for it. It was hidden under a false bolt on a fence which when you unscrewed it revealed the cache. The hint said bring tweezers which I had and with them I could extract the log and sign it. I normally don't bother signing logs but with this one the effort both reaching and finding it deserved the signature "windybottom 6/10/23". Which is my geocache username and today's date. :)

I also indulged in a few photographs of benches.

Why benches? Another obscure hobby of mine - posting photos of benches tagging them with @MyFaveBench on Twitter. The originator of @MyFaveBench has even published a book about benches. :) :)

We normally enjoy a bottle of wine on weekend lunchtimes but as I need to drive tomorrow afternoon I advanced things to today. :)

A discovery on this trip has been Corsican rosé. We've tried several and all have been excellent. This was today's. :)

If you like Provence rosé I dont think you will be disappointed by the Corse versions.

Finally, I revisited a spot near the aire this afternoon. When we were here at the beginning of the trip I found some Autumn Ladies Tresses orchids in flower. It's an obscure and very petite orchid but was a nice discovery. :)

Today I found them again and they seem to have done well, having set seed.

However, the presence of seed does not mean it will be knee deep in orchids here next year. Successful orchid germination requires exactly the right conditions including the presence of the correct bacteria and funghi. The odds are against them which is why orchids like this are always a delight to find.

On a lighter note Mrs DBK observed what she described as a "converted horse box" drive by the aire.

I found it parked by the port this afternoon.

It's German registered and looks very new to me. My suspicion is it was made from scratch for humans and has never seen a horse. Interesting approach and as far from a Tupperware box as you can get. :)

Before we left the aire this morning I took a photo.

If the photo doesn't make it clear, the aire was full, every pitch taken. Not all CCP aires are like this by any means but a sunny weekend on an aire by the coast does seem to attract the French MHs in large numbers. I think there was a time when CCP started there was a degree of resistance to their concept and though you do see MHs turn up and promptly turn around this is a lot less common than it used to be. What we did see quite frequently on this trip were people arriving and obtaining a new card from the machine so they could enter.

We are now at Roscoff.

Parked in the area reserved for MHs. The ferry isn't until tomorrow morning but we will be able to maximise time in bed being this close. :)

We walked into Roscoff to stretch our legs. It is an attractive town with a lot of places to eat. There is a back way out of the port which you find by walking towards the arrivals/departure building and then taking the road out of the port. There are no signposts advertising this way but it makes for easier walking than leaving the port by the way most traffic enters it.

Mrs DBK has a talent for spotting the unusual. I would have walked past this.

It's a WW2 bunker with artificial grass on the roof and seems to form the garden of the house built behind it. :)

We're now sitting in the queue for the 22:00 sailing from a damp Plymouth to Roscoff. :)

The weather forecast for northern France has improved a bit for this week but it won't be warm so we are committed to Plan B now and will head south, but not with any haste.

Anyone who has arrived in Plymouth on a ferry may remember the reception arrangements were a bit sketchy. In the last few weeks they have opened up a new set of booths for checking passports etc. Cars are still queueing though. :) We will find out for ourselves when we return here in six weeks time.

Hope you have taken some good British cheese with you!

Generally not a fan of French rosé but I do find the ones from the Comargu quite drinkable.

Spanish and Portuguese rosé are in a diffent class, been drinking Roija rosé in Germany, both Aldi & Lidl sell it.

Wot Gus said,(y) many thanks for sharing with us all, that are avid DBK followers.
Safe journey home, where next I wonder?
Best wishes.

Many thanks for all the comments. :) Just to round things off we have arrived safely back home. It was a very smooth crossing, there was a small bit of swell but the surface of the sea was mirror-like almost the whole way across.

Interesting sights included some Atlantic bluefin tuna chasing fish. I only know what they were because they have been seen near here regularly recently off Start Point in South Devon by folk who know about these things. They are not allowed to be commercially fished yet but that may come. Basically, we just saw large, deep-bodied fish breaking the surface with smaller fish leaping ahead with attendant gulls looking for scraps. :) Next were some dolphins very close to the ship so I could only see them from above but by their size and where we were (near Plymouth) then probably short-beaked common dolphins. A nice end to the trip. :)

We are planning this year to get away from the coast and do more of the great rivers so your report has been a great help.
